| Bailey nearly got killed!! Ok maybe not killed but i am pretty upset about what happened!! i have no idea why people have to be so mean and rude towards me and Bailey!! Me and Bailey was walkin by are local river like we do most days, i sit down on the bench and take in the fresh air and views for about 20mins while Bailey goes exploring (on his 16meter leash) he always runs back to see if mummy is ok every 5mins tho When this woman with her HUGE dog ((i have no idea what it was but it was huge)) came pounding over to Bailey and then about 2meters infront of him lay in the grass bum in the air ready to pounce I was shouting Bailey pulling him back on his lead as fast as i could bless him through the grass, which i know must not have been every nice for him, but as much as i called him he did not want to come back, he seem to have froze in shock or something, so i had no choice but to pull him towards me as i did not want the huge dog to pounce on him. Then the dog ran up and past Bailey snapping at him on the way past making Bailey jump out the way and me scream. The dog then ran around and did it again. I screamed and picked Bailey up (( Bailey did not seem happy with this situation he was in and seemed to be glad i picked him up.)) The woman started to laugh and said '' Aw what a cute little dog, jess could have that for breakfast'' I did not see the funny side to it at ALL!! I answered her back saying, ''is your dog aggressive? its just snapped at my dog???'' again she laughed at me and said ''no jess is harmless'' ''how am i ment to know that'' i kinda shouted back at her ((i was mad)) You should have called your dog back when u seen my dog is very small, or had your dog on a lead if it does not come when called (( even tho she didnt even try to call it)) Then she seemed to get mad at me sayin her dog is harmless, its them types of YAPPY dogs ((pointing at Bailey)) that are scared of anything'' i tried to answer her back sayin my dog should have no need to be scared if her dog was on a lead and under control but she kind of walked off laughing tellin her dog how silly my dog looked in a jumper tuting to herself. Am i over reacting or have i a right to be very upset about this?? It has really annoyed me!! I did not know if ther dog was harmless and to me snapping at Bailey is not harmless?? Bailey seemed to be in shock and i didnt want to put him down. I dont mind any dog being off a lead as long at the owner can control it and understand that owners of little dogs are going to be scared if a huge massive dog is running towards them. I also find that because there are no ''small'' dogs where i live i get alot of this happening and its really starting to upset me as i am feeling that i cant go to my local river walk because of people not being able to think when the see other dogs coming and control there dogs! The fact she was so rude to me and Bailey really upset me aswell, ok it wud have been better in a perfect world where she understood why i was upset and said she was sorry and would think in future before she lets her huge massive dog run up to us, but no she was rude and just made nasty comments. It really scared Bailey i could tell, and for the rest of the walk when he seen a dog he came running back to me to be picked up which really upset sets me. What do u lot think i am i just being silly?? should i expect this sort or treatment?

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | WHat a bad day you had! I have "BIG" dogs and "Small, Yappy" ones They don't know they are different.. But I don't think you were overacting. When ever, a larger dogs comes toward one so small you must protect the small one, because of the fact they don't always back down and will LOSE the fight. The other lady was wrong to dismiss your concerns...I know I would have been upset also. Hugs to you and Bailey!

| NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO People have no idea how fragile our dogs are. Just the weight of a friendly pounce could haver hurt Bailey! I had Bella in the small dog section of a dog park and she was pounced on by a lab puppy that was 5 times her size. he was just playing but it upset me that he was even allowed in the small dog section. They are just clueless |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | No you have no way of knowing if a big dog is friendly or not and even if they are they can unintentionally hurt a smaller dog. That lady was out of line and rude. Glad Bailey and you are ok.

| I dislike it when ANY dog is off leash anywhere personally, too much potential for an accident with dogs big or small . Glad your baby is ok! |

| my dogs (i big and 3 small) all do the but up in the air,,and the running and snapping when they are playing...it sounds like the big dog wanted to play with your dog...but the lady should have known that her dog was much to big to play with your dog,,,and she should have hurried to get him before yours got trameled...thats what i have to do with mine..I have to keep my big golden retriever from playing with the two puppies while in the yard..while she too in harmless..she can hurt them but accidently stepping on on of them...some people just dont bother to discipline their dogs or keep them on a leash...unfortunately....but im glad no one got hurt.. |

| I would have been scared to death. Probably would have reported her, too, for not having her dog on a leash - providing you have leash laws there. It's part of what I call being a responsible owner.

| I would say you were not rude at all. It is the same reaction I would have to a larger dog that seemed a bit over zealous to eat mine. I think those that have small children understand more about the smaller dogs. They are used to being in protective mode,so they understanda little dog more. I hope your day gets better hon.
