Exactly my point. :)

I'm not saying don't share your thoughts your wisdom or trying "control" anyone... I'm saying give that wisdom with a little grace and tact. How much does a child learn when they are being scolded and treated meanly all the time? Nothing. BUT change your tone of voice, the way you present it,and they learn with great depth. The same goes for all of us. We are all people,and when you start treating people so rude an so mean it affects all of us, I for one do not wish to be stereotyped as a rude harsh or even cruel person simply because I have a Yorkie.. what does that do "for the breed?"

Brittany - have you been reporting things you see as cruel and/or that are breaking the rules? Do you know where the "report" icon is on your screen (lower left, it's a triangle with a ! in it)? If you see something that concerns you, please report it - and at least we can take a look and see if it's violating the YT rules. I try to look at a lot of threads, but it's just impossible to keep up w/ all of them - so if you see something inappropriate, do report it. :)

I completely agree!!!! I had no idea pet stores were bad! Plus I thought I was rescuing Chewy..she was 4 months old and still in the store.. the only other yorkies there were 8-9 weeks...I didnt think they would keep her much longer... poor kid suffered for 4 months but I hope she doesnt remember being locked up and just knows life as being a spoiled queen with a servant (me) who is always at her beck and call.. lol I have no regrets but sometimes feel like people look down on it.

I'm so glad to read this post. I'm fairly new here too. While I have had fun sharing my experiences with roxie and learning allot from others...there was a thread the other day that really got to me. I wasn't sure how to say something without offending anyone. I felt so bad for the girl who's puppy got hit by a car and the last thing she needed was for anyone to scold her for not having the pup on a leash. It was an accident and she felt horrible enough without someone giving their condolences then jumping on her. I couldn't believe my eyes! I was also embarrassed to admit I had a store bought pup because I fell in complete love with her at first sight and didn't know anything about puppy mills at the time. Other than that I really have had a great time reading and learning from this great group of people. Thank you YT!

Don't stress my first puppy came from a puppy mill and I had no idea about them. It was the first dog we had ever bought. All the dogs I had growing up came to us free. Hubby had never even owned a puppy! We all learn from our experiences.

You are right! No one started off knowing everything. And I've never seen anyone here or elsewhere claim that they officially know everything there is to know and can't possibly learn anymore. Even breeders that have been learning 30+ years still learn new aspects daily and will be the first to admit that. But at the same time, if someone does have knowledge that others will benefit from, then it should be shared. Not because anyone is on their "high horse" or thinks that they are superior to others, but because they may actually have something to say that will help.:thumbup:
No thats not what I said and you may need to read it again. I said if we run off all the new people that are trying to breed, wrong or not, if we don't help educate them in the right manner, the yorkies are the ones that get hurt in the end.
Everyone has to learn things but its the manner in which they post is very condescending and they leave.

So both of you have experiences that will help you to teach others about the dangers of buying from places that don't have the best interest of the puppies at heart and are only all about the money. But who better to teach than those who have been down that road already and know the perils and pitfalls?

I also believe that both of you would be able to teach it in a manner that would be well received instead of resentd and that's what's needed most. It's rather hard to educate someone after they have gone out the door and shut it behind them?

So I hope to see both of you posting to the others that may be sonsidering this avenue and by sharing your experiences, you may save someone heartache.

I'm fairly new here also and have seen people respond in a fashion that I consider rude. How can you teach someone about anything if you do so in a manner that immediately puts them on the defense. This is not right. I have some questions about breeding and would like professional and helpful information, but after reading some of the responses, I don't feel like being attacked. Granted, there are by far more helpful members who genuinely want to help, but it is the few who respond with that attack tone. You know what I mean: you should have know, what did you expect, what were you thinking...the list goes on. No one needs this type of response.

I belong to several other forums and have yet to experience this behavior to this extent. Come on members, let really educate in a polite and welcoming manner.

I have been here a little while, and this is how i feel. :aimeeyork YT members are very passionent about the breed. They will have strong feelings about subject matter and have the right to express their concerns, and offer feedback. I believe too many people take feedback personally, where as it is only advice shared. People need to step back and look at it from a different perspective. :aimeeyork
I am uncertain as to what "rude" posters mean. I see no cursing, or nasty remarks that are directly attacking anyone. Administration does step in and will close a thread when needed. Knowledge is power, and I believe newbies come on here sometimes thinking that they will always get people to agree and support them. That is not going to always happen on here.
Newbies become very offended quickly and then shoot off their mouths sometimes, making it worse. I have seen that happen many times. Many times, they are the ones to get angry because they do not like what others have to say. AND do not want anyone to disagree with them.
Don't take it personally and everything would be fine. :aimeeyork

I'm sorry, but I just joined and I already know what everyone here is talking about. I think it's rather funny that you refer to new people as "newbies" when you just joined in May 2008. Just because you've posted over 800 times this does not make you an expert. "Newbies" become offended because of the mannerism in which people respond to them. Passion does not equal rudeness. As far as the newbies shooting off their mouth they have every right to do so when someone who believes himself/herself to be an expert makes them feel like dirt and being attacked. Would you take nonsense from someone on the street if they spoke to you in this manner? I don't think so! You'd probably slap them upside the head. This is no different. All people here are saying that members can be great teachers and wonderful sources of information without being self righteous. Geez, I can't believe my first post is about defending us "newbies".:(
