Definetly! That would be good. I just looked for flight prices for next year, put in June 4th cause there's no date yet..is there? Anyway average price was $150 round trip, going in United and coming back on Delta, it was on orbitz. That's pretty good, but then there's the pet fees and i don't even know if those airlines allow dogs, i was just looking for the price. Is there a date set yet?

I live in Staten Island so I mapquested Staten Island NY to Alexandria VA and it said 4 hours. I dont think I would want to deal with airplanes for me it would be easier to drive.

im coming from the norfolk virginia area i live on the va/nc boarder . i would rather fly i do not want to deal with all the traffic

Alexandria is great location! Very pet freindly, but its not quite San Francisco... There are advantages and disadvantages like anywhere.

You will end up paying a lot more for a room during the summer tourist season around here. Obviously with kids and summer vacation it's prime time. That will drive the room rate. It will likely be HOT as well, so the yorkies will not want to walk very far (my little guys have lots of energy when its cool out, but in the heat and humidity of DC this time of year, we go on very short walks).

It may make more sense to stay a bit out of town and schedule for bus rides into Old Town and DC for dog freindly tours. Getting a large block or rooms for a bunch of yappers in a prime tourist location is going to be tough.

Just my 2 cents without reading all the other posts. In any case, I will be there unless I'm on travel from work, but no room for me! You may find better rates in Crystal City which is between the airport and Old Town, Alex and a short metro to DC, there are LOTS of hotels there. Too bad there are no pets allowed on Metro, LAME.

Good luck and if you need another volunteer, I'd like to help but maybe closer to the date - given that I have a demanding job and 2 little yapers to take care of

We do know that the economy has been rough in the US as of late, so we are looking to try to make this event economical and affordable.

The 2009 YorkieTalk Meetup is not being organized as an event to make money for YorkieTalk. YorkieTalk has raffles for fundraising (for YorkieTalk yearly costs), accepts donations from members, and has some advertising, which pays for the costs of YorkieTalk. This event, as it was last year, was created for YOU, the YorkieTalk member.

YorkieTalk will not profit at all from this event, if there is excess money, it will either be donated to a charity that involves Yorkies or it will be applied towards future YorkieTalk Meetups. That said, YorkieTalk would like to at least break-even with this event, as in, we hope we will not be losing money by having this meetup. But if we do end up losing money on this meetup, we will accept it and deal with it.

We believe the fees for the 2008 Meetup were reasonable ($139 per night for the hotel room with a $50 nonrefundable deposit for the pet fee, $70-100 registration fee to attend with dinner, $50 fee for vendor tables) and we will be using that as a guide when we search out a hotel for our event. If you have any feedback on this, please let us know.

If any former committee members want to give any input, advice, or feedback, either publicly or privately, we would welcome it with open arms, as your experience is invaluable. They would be most welcome to the come to the 2009 Meetup as well, as the group has many friends and is loved by many here.

We also welcome any and all input from all YorkieTalk members, each suggestion and idea will be taken seriously by the YT Meetup Team. As we have come to know, some of the best ideas come from our members, and we appreciate each suggestion and idea that is given.

For 2010, the YorkieTalk Meetup is scheduled to be on the West Coast. We have yet to determine a city for that meetup. The next meetup, in 2011, will be in the Midwest, or the middle of America.

Since we already have the 2009 Meetup city, Alexandria, Virginia, our first order of business will be to determine a date and find a hotel for the event. We will post publicly as soon as we have further details. We will try to post details as they are decided among the YorkieTalk Meetup Team.

We're still working on the exact date as we are working with several hotels in the area in trying to finalize a plan and location for the 2009 International YorkieTalk Meetup that works well for our Yorkies!
