Heck my husband would lock me up in a room if I even thought of spending $3,000 on a puppy if he was not for showing or breeding, he would most likely shoot me if I spent $10,000 on one.

Not all but alot are. They are the ones that like to brag about how much they paid and how small they are. If there wasnt such a market for such tiny ones breeders wouldnt breed for that

When I was breeding on a regular basis, I got many 2 and 3 pounders from normal size parents...and Becca, one of my pets I have now is barely 3 pounds..(parents are 6 pounds) what are we breeders suppose to do with the tinies..put them to sleep? There are only so many pets one can handle...I am thrilled there are people who seek out them out and dote on them..JMO

From my perspective, and this is only my thoughts. Some people will believe almost anything they are told...until someone else enlightens them.
That is why forums like YT are so important. There are a lot of unscrupulous people out there that can talk the feathers off of a bird. And the people who are trusting, end up getting an animal that is going to cost them a lot more in medical bills, than it would have cost them to get a beautiful, healthy, long lived baby from a reputable breeder. But they don't know that. It is only lately that the "Horror of Puppy Mills" has gotten nation wide attention. And people are starting to notice.. so the word is getting out. We need to do everything we can to educate people. And it is happening. Just not as fast as we would all like it to.
We have new members almost everyday. Some who have bought from breeders, and some who bought from pet stores, but the thing is... they all love their babies just like we do ours. And now they are on YT.. where they can learn how to take care of them... and learn why to not buy another one from pet stores. With Patience, Love, Information & Understanding, we are slowly changing things and making this a better place to share information and educate people..
And that is what we are all about here.. the betterment of Yorkies and their owners.

The little ones need loving homes too! I have a "little one" and she means the world to me. It's a good thing that there are people out there that do want the small ones...otherwise what would happen to all the ones that dont "measure up?"
What I am against is the BYB exploiting the fact and purposely breeding for "smaller and smaller" size to make "more and more $$$$$!" and they are using the fact that most people are not knowledgeable.
People who pay that kind of money have more money than brains...but I am glad to know that the tiny ones are getting homes too!

You said it perfectly and I agree. You cant fault the breeders that just happen to have a tiny but the ones that breed tiny females so they can get a litter of them should be ashamed

If someone wants a dog that is less than three pounds, I suggest they get a hamster.

There's a difference in ending up with a smaller one than wanting the smallest you can find without knowing the health problems the tiny ones have. I think a lot of you are throwing this post out of whack.

this goes to show how crazy some people are with what they want in a yorkie...and the outrageous price they would pay to get one that small regardless of how sick they are!

I totally agree, while I have 1 6.5lb and 3- that are barely 4# I didn't go looking for small ones. that's just how big they ended up.

I think people want the smallest Yorkies they can get because the breed is a status symbol to them; not a family pet. They want everyone to Ohhh and Ahhh over how "cute" and "tiny" their dog is! Thats a way of getting attention for them. (For those of you who got puppies that just happened to turn out tiny, Im not referring to you) My puppy is already 3 1/2 lbs and she is 13 weeks old. If I wanted something tiny, I guess I could have caught one of the field mice across the highway and put a leash on it!

I think some people are really just uneducated about small dogs and health issues, puppymills, ect.

Many don't know until someone informs them and a lot of people think that money guarantees a healthy, perfect dog even though they don't ask the proper questions before buying.
