| How often to Bath? New yorkie owner Hi I need help again. I gave Ivy a bath and she feels and smells a little in only 2 days. My border collie I only have to bath every 4 to 5 weeks. Is it the shampoo? or is it because she came from a animal rescue ( they got her from a puppy mill) I don't want to over do. She also went for her very 1st walk on the leash!! Queenie (the collie) helped her understand, we walked over 3 blocks! Thanks for the help |

| Once a month for a full bath is generally the best for their skin and coat. You can use the conditioning spray and wipes in between but if you bathe too much you dry out the skin because you remove all the natural oils. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Yorkies are different than other dogs, and most experts say they can handle one bath a week, alway use a good conditioner, as it conditions the skin as well as the coat. If your dog is smelling, it may be because of another problem. Make sure the smell isn't coming from the ears, which could mean an ear infection, or the rear area because this could indicate an anal gland problem. Sometimes after a long walk they get a funny smell, but it usually goes away pretty fast. They also have some nice grooming/freshening spays that can be used between baths.

| I bathe Pixie about once week..depending on how dirty she gets really..sometimes i leave it longer, especially if the weather is particularly cold..its usually the hair around her face that gets the dirtiest what with food and digging about in the garden..so sometimes i just use a little bowl of warm water with a bit of baby wash in it and give her facial hair a quick wash & comb through..keeps her fresh in between baths.

| Zoeybear and Baby Chloe get it about once a month in the winter. They swim about 1X a week in the summer and get spritzed with perfect coat spray. They almost never go outside unless we are going to the pool, so they never get dirty or smell.

| We usually do 1x a week or once in awhile we go 2 wks. But we also will use a refreshing spray if we are going out somewhere. If your dog from a puppy mill it might take awhile to get that smell out of the coat and skin. Try a conditioner and leave it in for awhile and see if that helps then rinse it out. Dry them good and then spritz them with a cologne for dogs.

| Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, GOOD TO KNOW. Being a new Yorkie owner I was wondering how often it was SAFE to bathe. I have been bathing once every 6 - 8 days but didn't want to cause her any skin problems. I will have to look for the spritz and wipes for in between baths. If anyone could recommend any shampoo and conditioner that can be found in Ontario Canada I would GREATLY appreciate it. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Taylor gets greasy after 5 days or so. |
