We usually do 1x a week or once in awhile we go 2 wks. But we also will use a refreshing spray if we are going out somewhere.
If your dog from a puppy mill it might take awhile to get that smell out of the coat and skin. Try a conditioner and leave it in for awhile and see if that helps
then rinse it out. Dry them good and then spritz them with a cologne for dogs.
