Hawks OMG  So Spanky generally goes potty on his pad. but sometime he wants to go mark the ivy on the front porch, ( he is fixed) we were out there it is enclosed for him specially so he wont run out but no roof, I always go with him and today i herd a swoosh and felt a breeze on the top of my head I look up and there it was a huge Hawk swooping down after Spanky I was sooo scared I screamed and lounged for him he was 2 maybe 3 feet in front of me and the hawk took off. after it was over i figured the hawak must have been on my roof the whole time. Spanky is only 3 1/2 lbs and as big as that hawk was i bet he could have picked up my baby I am so freaked out over this. anyway just wanted to share I think i will have hubby build me a roof for the front patio. |
 OMG that is so scary! I'm always afraid of hawks swooping down...I never let Tetley outside alone. Thank God you were with him to save him. |
DAMN... That was a very close call for your little Spanky. I am very glad you were right there! This could have turned out tragic. where I live, I need to be careful about large owls. These things come out at dusk, and fly in the back of our complex. There is a field right there. AND it scares me that one could grab my Suzi in a flash. :aimeeyork I would not let Spanky out at all unless you are right there to supervise. Chances are high that the same Hawk will come back, and is not far away. |

Thank goodness Spanky is OK! |
oohhh!! i know what you mean i live on a pretty good sized lot and they are always flying around!! we used to have chickens here too so im sure they connect us with the chickens!! im just scared they are going to swoop down one day!! i havent had one come down yet but they circle in the air!! and at night we have owls here!! best wishes |
Oh man, I am glad your Spanky is okay! I keep telling my hubby that I am afraid of that very thing as we have turkey vultures here as well. I live somewhat in the country and we have all kinds of wildlife here. Hubby just say a family of wild turkeys walking across the road yesterday morning on his way to work. He said they were hissing at him! |
I'm glad to hear your little one is okay. :) |

WOW, what a close call. So glad that you were there. I would be telling hubby to build that roof now! And I would also go out first and check the yard before letting Spanky out! |
We have coyotes, hawks, owls and snakes...No one ever, ever goes out day or night alone...We do live in a new development and we did take over the wildlife's domain, so they are still around...The mountains are near us , but with all the people with all their pets around, I'msure they come here to get an easy meal....:eek::eek::eek: |
Wow! What a close call that was. Yes. A hawk can easily carry 3.5 lbs. I see them around here all of the time. I feel like my eyes are always on the sky. Sometimes I forget to watch the sky and happen to see them fly over. It's scary! I hate those things!:( |
omg i can't believe that and sorry that it had happen to you...that is what i am so scared of also...hehe |
Yikes! Thank goodness you were nearby! Scary thing is, hawks are not always scared of people. My parents had their 2 (at the time) out on their screened deck and a hawk flew THROUGH the screen after them with my dad right there. |
We have hawks too! Mine don't go out alone either....some folks have doggy doors and I cringe at the thought.. You can buy a plastic owl (competation) at hardware stores, I 've heard that helps.... Maybe a scarecrow for your yard would help (decorative for the season)... roxanne |
forgot... first I forgot how to spell "competition".. then I forgot to mention the "reba" show on TV and the story of the yorkie that "Killed the Hawk".... very cute...:rollingey roxanne |
We have the same problem We have tons of hawks around here, and they can carry off rabbits bigger than my dogs. That's the biggest reason we decided to paper train rather than training them for outdoors. They do go out when we go out, but I'm always looking around for hawks. They're very quick, and they can swoop down and carry something away in the time it takes you to realize what happened :( |
OMG!!!! I would have freaked out!!!! Thank god Spanky is ok!!!! Shewwwwwwwwwwwwww |
I posted before that a hawk tried to get my Chelsey (4.2LBS) and my 16 lb Teddy protected her. NO hawk can pick up Teddy so he is safe. They will not go after anything that big. All my dogs can only be out if Teddy is there. Even if I'm there too Teddy is like a guard dog and much faster than I am. I know how you feel I was scared for days. I'm so glad your Spanky is OK. |
i think a hawk can pick up a bigger dog. dont they just stick their claws into whateve they are after and fly away... i would be very careful. a bigger dog or not.. better safe than sorry |
OMG I can't believe that hawk came so close to Spanky...with you right there. I've had them to hover over my back yard and actually swoop down and get a dove off our back porch, that was before I got my furbabies. So I've always been aware that it's a possibility. Sounds like that hawk was stalking Spanky. Thank God you were there with him. |
if im not mistaken, a member here or a friend of a member witnessed a hawk actually coming down and taking her puppy right in front of her eyes and she couldnt do anything |
Hawk is back 2 Attachment(s) So now the Hawk is stacking out my backyard. So i go a pic sorry for the poor guilty. He was eating another bird yuck. Hubby Got out his gun but i wouldn't let him shoot it, Just scare it off. |
we live in a wooded area.. so i always keep an eye out in the skies and trees to make sure there are no birds coming after princess (i dont use a leash when shes playing in my yard)... shes not tiny but i wouldnt wanna risk it.. glad hes safe and okay! |
Oh my goshhhh  that is SO scary! i am SO glad Spanky is ok!! good thing you were out there!! I would most definately have hubby build you a roof for your patio, if you were already planning on it! until then, pee pads!;):D geez, that is too scary! you must have been freaked out!!(im sure you still are) You aren't thaaaat far from me.. and i have an aunt in Claremont.;) Hugs to you!! |
Hawks are all around my house! I see them circling my yard when i bring the dog out and I also hear them making their calling noises! Its scary and I have to keep the dog on a leash bc these things are scary! Glad your baby is safe! |
That was a close call. Thank goodness you were with him to save him! |

Hawks scare me!! I see them circling our yard sometimes and a couple have even swooped down....at that point Mia goes inside! |
OMG....glad that your lil one is alright....I just posted earlier this evening about seeing either an owl or hawk swoop down towards my patio cover this afternoon, luckily my lil one was indoors....I have my back patio netted along with the patio cover to protect her, but it seems that the netting isn't much protection....I think it had to have been a hawk who has been stalking her...I don't think I'll be letting her out on her own anymore...I don't know what I would do if I were to lose her... |

Hawks WILL pick up a small dog and carry them off - even if they don't actually 'fly' away with them - the talons alone can kill a small animal....you were very very lucky... |
