Beyond mad!!! I am so upset right now. My favorite vet left from this area and I had to find a new one. Today we tried a new place and it was terrible. :thumbdown I had this horrible feeling about this place all weekend, but I thought it was just nerves because of my past experiecne with another very bad vet that almost cost Pia her life. Ever since then I've had major trust issues with letting anyone touch any of my babies. I walk into this place and to me it was kind of stinky. Our appointment was 9:20, so I couldn't help wondering about other things not being sanitary. I can see if a place doesn't look or smell the greatest come the afternoon, but they just opened and the floors didn't seem washed. Perhaps I'm just picky, but my old vet was never like this. They were neat freaks and I liked that. I had all the babies in the stroller and pushed them up to the window with me and asked if I needed to sign in and the girl looked at me like I was crazy. She simply says, "name" and nothing else. I go to sit down and overhear her say to another girl, "we have our very own Paris Hilton today." I was stunned and needless to say insulted. I'm sure she saw me walking in with four babies in a pink stroller and found it amsuing, but it was just me and this was my only way of handling four babies at one time. I certainly could NOT carry them all. I tried to brush it off because she was just the receptionist but I was definately on edge. About 10 mintues later a tech came out and said she was ready for us. She was very polite and actually joked about me having my hands full. She weighed Snoot on one scale and then brought another one in the room for the girls. She asked me some questions and then it was time to take their temperatures. She takes out a thermometer and takes Trixie's first and then goes straight to Pia. Guys, she never ever cleaned it!! I stopped her and asked about it not being clean and she told me that since they were all my dogs it would be okay. WHAT??????? :thumbdown:mad: She obviously saw the look on my face and hurried to tell me she would switch it out. I should have walked out at that point! I let her finish and then she said she would be back with the vaccines. I stopped her and said we were there for full exams with the doctor and I needed to talk about these vaccines because I wasn't having them all done. I told her I explained this when I made the appointment. Needles to say she was confused and had no idea what I was talking about. She left and then said the doctor would be in shortly. About 20 minutes later the doctor comes in and the first thing out of his mouth is about the vaccines. I have never ever been here, so I find it only right to introduce yourself. Geez, a little manners please! I had a list of questions with me and some articles about vaccines and he looked at me like I was nuts. He kept insisting on the vaccines but said the rabbies was the only one by law that they needed to have. I get this but Snoot has had a few seizures now and my last vet wouldn't give him any shots. This doctor didn't want to hear it. I felt terribly rushed and like he was paying no attention to me what so ever. He basically cuts me off and asks who I would like to start with. I had enough at that point. I didn't even know his name and he cut me off. These were very important questions that needed discussed. I put the babies all in the stroller and told him that we were done here. This man was frozen and asked me what my problem was. I told him about the receptionist's comment and then about the tech not cleaning the thermometer and now him cutting me off when I had questions. He never even apologizied and opened the door for us to leave. Can you even believe that?? I'm still in shock and I hope they didn't expect me to pay for any of that. Now I'm home and beyond mad. At first I was upset but now I'm just plain out mad. How is this place even still in business? How in the world could two people suggest this place? WOW WOW WOW is about all I have left to say. Back to searching for another new vet. Thanks for letting me vent. Do you guys think I did anything wrong? I truly don't believe that I did. However, we all have differen't views on things and maybe I'm missing something or I'm too overally emotional. Gosh, I have no idea but I know that vet was NOT right for us! I need to settle down and then I'm taking the babies out to the park. They seem stressed out and we all need park time and ice cream. Thanks for listening and so sorry this was forever long. Excuse any typos or anything else. I was typing very fast. |
Wow...what a bad experience for you. Good for you for walking out! I dont think i would have stayed past the Paris Hilton remark! You should have called her on it...sorry your experience was so bad...im sure you will find another good vet, one who CARES about his business. Try to have a good rest of the day!:D |
I do not think you did anything wrong, my vet thinks I am kinda craze because I ask a lot of questions but always spends tons of time answering them. You need to find a vet that fits your needs. No place of business has the right to be rude even if you did do something wrong. |
Dina, I am so truly sorry. You did the right thing bu walking away. When you are talking about someone with a professional degree who went to school for atleast 8 years, the least they can do it's at least be polite & give you a warm introduction, as far as the receptionist goes...I am beyon her "ignorance" she wa just simply jealous of all your cute babies! Ignore her. I hope you can truly find someone nice around you! DONT BE MAD....THEIR LOSS! |
 wow, I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. This is so awful. I would leave too. I am sorry to hear your vet moved because I know how hard it is to find a good vet who actually cares about animals. Oh and the nerve of receptionist ah some people... |
You didn't do anything wrong! Good for you! Hope it gave them a wakeup call! |
I am so glad you walked out. As I was reading your story, I was getting mad myself and thinking this place doesn't deserve to have any customers. How awful. They were probably just thinking they could make money on vaccinating your four dogs and not caring about anything else you had to say. I hope you find another vet you can trust with your babies. I am exactly the same way - I have a list of questions with me and watch everything that goes on at our vets. I don't trust anyone with Kiki. Anna Dog profile for Kiki, a female Yorkshire Terrier |
NO Freakin WAY did you do ANYTHING wrong!!!!!!!!!!! I`m SOOOO proud of you for being strong and sticking to your guns and trusting your intuition!!!!!!! And for walking out in the middle of the exam and not being pushed around!! Good for you Dina. I just hope you find someone who you can trust!! I had issues with the very first vet I went to... and then I went to three other vets after that. I finally found someone totally fabulous....... the communication and the cleanliness are two HUGE things for me too and this guy is fabulous - very hands on. I know how stressed out you must feel right now... I hope you find someone soon. If you lived here I`d definitely recommend him... even though he`s a little on the sexist side which I discovered last week when I dropped in to pick up some food for the girls. He assumed I was with another man because he noticed a man in the driver seat of my car - (my husband) but i guess he couldnt make out who it was and assumed it was another man because he didnt come in with me  it was weird. Im not sure if thats because he got on really well with my husband... .. or what... it was just WEIRD and way too personal for me! Needless to say, I was VERY insulted. But thats a whole side issue.... |
I would report them. I believe in NC all the boarding facilities and vets have to answer to the board of Agriculture. Um...it's okay to use the same therm on all you dogs because they are all yours? Then why is it family members don't share? We have diposable sheaths for our therms! Vaccines are important to discuss. Currently, mine ONLY get rabies because they've had all their other ones. We don't re-vaccinate ourselves every year...why should our dog's be different? As far as the Paris Hilton remark...I can't tell you what to feel about that. I probably would have gotten kicked out for being nasty to the idiot receptionist. I do not think you are wrong, over reacting, or anything. I sure would have been made myself!! BTW, contact another vet clinic and ask who you would report the offending vet too...I would do it. |
WOW  is all I can say. You were absolutely right in leaving with your babies. I'm in the same boat as you with looking for a new vet. I'm taking one of my boys in for his rabies (only) shot this week just to see if this new one is one I can be comfortable with. This will be my 3rd vet in 3 years. Down here, even the highly recommended ones leave much to be desired, it seems. Good luck with your vet shopping. It can be a long process finding the right one. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |
sorry to hear about your bad experiance!!! Time to search out a new vet!!! |
No you did nothing wrong. You did what any good Mommy would do. Good for you for standing up for your babies and for yourself. |
I'm thinking maybe that tech should have had her temp taken with that same therm! |
You were right for leaving! You might consider reporting them. If they have unsanitary, and rude practices other animals and their owners certainly do not need to be subjected to that. Not sure who you would report them to... if your area has an investigative reporter, maybe give them a call; you may not be the only one they have treated poorly. |
I am shocked!! You did the right thing. No way would I have stayed after that. It irritates me to no end when a vet or a doctor has no courtesy to at least listen to my questions or point of view. How unprofessional! |
The tech was going to give the vaccines without the vet doing exams first? It's a good thing you got outta there. It can be a challenge to find a vet that will listen to you and knows what they are doing.:( |
I would have did the same thing but probably after the Paris Hilton remark. No one deserves to be treated like that |
You should be proud. Many people are intimidated by the Vet and would have just got the shot, then went home mad and wishing they would have walked out! You have every right to be mad, but you did the best thing by just leaving! |
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I am still just very worked up over this entire situation. Mikey just got here, which is wonderful because I didn't expect him until after 5:00. He is just as mad as me now and wants to go there. However, I'm not allowing him to go anywhere near that place. I'm getting off now and packing to go to the park. Hopefully, I'll calm down and come back later with happy thoughts and pictures. Thanks again everyone!! |
That place sounded real dirty and unprofessonal. I believe it was a very good thing you did not allow the vet to treat your babies. A low grade vet clinic will have untrained, thoughtless, staff working there. Heck, the housecleaning was even bad. I hate it when the vet only is concerned with "routine" care. NOt listening to the owner, or caring. Those are all extremley bad signs. the vet place i go to is ok. But, I had a different vet see Suzi last time and he was not honoring my wishes concerning vaccines. I need to be certain to request the same vet that DID understand . I hope you find a good vet for your darlings. I drivr nearly an hour for ours.:aimeeyork |
Good for you, Dina! If I heard that witch say something about Paris Hilton, I'd have been SO mad, I probably would have cursed her out!! #$%^$! Apparently, they are not used to people asking important questions about their pets. I wish I could have been there!!!!!!! OMG. :p I can just picture you bringing notes and articles and wanting to discuss matters in depth and this guy just looking at you!! HAHAHA!! Dina, try not to let it bother you. You will find a better place...they are not worth getting upset over. Hugs to everybody!!!!!!!! |

Geeze, Dina~ I'm so sorry you had to live thru that! It's stressful enough on you and the doggies having to go to the vet's to begin with, much less finally getting there with all yours and then being insulted for your trouble:mad:. I'd be so mad, I don't know what I'd do! It's hard to believe they're still in business and I'd make sure that I gave them VERY BAD P.R. at any chance. I'd hate it too, if the place was stinky when they first opened. The first grooming shop I took Max to (on recommendation of his breeder) smelled like that and I was the first person there; I never went back, even though they did a nice job. The place I go now is always super-busy and it NEVER smells bad. A vet's shouldn't be any different than a doctor's office IMO. And the thing about the thermometer is DISGUSTING... how can they even look you in the eye after doing something like that? You'd think they'd have enough sense to be embarrassed at least. How totally unprofessional and I'd report them to to whoever is appropriate. What if one of your dogs had some weird flesh eating bacteria or something (doubtful, but it COULD be a lot of things) and just b/c your dogs all live together doesn't necessarily mean that they already have what the others have. And besides, it's not sanitary regardless if it's a human or animal! UGH! You did absolutely nothing wrong and you have every right to be angry. You'd think that someone with 4 dogs would warrant a little more respect than what they gave you, since you obviously have SOME knowledge about your own dogs and dogs in general AND 4 dogs worth of business is A LOT. I hope you find a vet you really like and feel comfortable with; I like mine ok, but she's one of those that doesn't really listen to you much and when I question her about some things, she tries to make you feel like you are ignorant and she knows all the latest stuff (she can't even type notes on her latptop properly:rolleyes:). Good luck, sweetie~ |
Thats horrible!!!! I can't believe they did that to you! I would have said something to that receptionist if she had made that comment to me!:thumbdown It took me 3 horrible visits before I found the right vet for me and Tino. I went to the first vet (which sounds like what your dealing with) It was kindof stinky and the receptionists were all rude. They didn't even look at my cat!! I was so mad, they couldn't of said "how are you today?" -- personally I find those things extremely important. My second vet was just an idiot to put it bluntly. Tino is kind of on the smaller side and the vet didn't know how to handle him. He sat there and had the tech hold him down (not gently by the way) and continue to hurt my dog until Tino finally bit him...and then he said it was my fault!!!???? I should have done what you did and walked out on that one! I wanted to freak out! So i left him and then the third one was just a lack of professionalism so I left before i got out of the reception area. Now I found an amazing vet and everything is all right. They know Tino's name when I arrive! (which is HUGE!) They take very good care of him and explain everything to me in grave detail before they even schedule anything. I think the best was when I was panicked becuase he had hurt his back and the vet actually caled me at home, after we treated him, for 2 weeks just to check on him becuase she was worried.:animal-pa I am sure there is a perfect vet for you out there, take it from someone who had some really horrible experiences herself~ |
I know how scary it can be. I'm picky too. My vet office is clean and I still don't put mine on the floor. I think after her little snid remark about Paris Hilton I would have said, Well, since Paris Hilton changes her mind every 5min. I'm changing mine. I would have walked out. THat is terrible and the vet didn't sound much better. Good luck on finding a good one. When Tina was diagnosed with VonWillebrand's disease I called and talked and took her to so many vets that it was ridulouis. THey didn't know how to treat it. Finally, my vet's office had just hired a new vet and she was a God's send. She knew exactly what to do. So, there are good ones out there, you just have to keep looking. God bless!! |
I don't think there was anything wrong with what you did. I would be pissed if that happened to me. The receptionist was just plain rude, but the Dr. was just like what most other doctors have become, all they care about it seeing as many patients as possible to get money. He had no business ignoring your questions, especially when one of your little ones has problems with seizures. I'm sorry you're having such trouble finding a new vet. |
You did nothing wrong..That vet would NOT have my business either..How rude and uncaring ... |
Oh...I forgot to say, that I think you did a great job typing for being so mad~ the only typo I noticed, and giggled b/c it was SO APPROPO, was when you said after the tech was going to get the vaccines without an exam, you said "NEEDLES to say".....that's funny......I'm still giggling....sorry:p |
I agree with the people who have said you should report them. If they made you feel uncomfortable in any way you have the right to walk out, no matter what the situation. Plus you gave them more than enough chances to treat you and your babies with respect, but they didn't bother. Our babies cannot speak up for themselves so they rely on us to do that for them. You did the right thing by walking out, don't doubt yourself for even one second. |
Dena, you should have told them, "Don't hate US because WE'RE beautiful!" (LOL). I can't believe he didn't even want to discuss their history. Definitely bad business on the part of that whole office -- they just lost a very valuable customer; someone who cares deeply for her babies. Shake this off, Dena, and go to DQ. Yay! And take more fabulous pics of those soon-to-be-famous babies. |
