| Questions about male puberty? When do boy furbabies come into their *I'm ready time?* Odie is 6 months and he is starting to like girls... LOTS We were in the dog park today and he was having a fling with another little dog.. she was way too tall for him... and she is spayed but that didn't seem to bother Odie ... Love is in the air... I told them to get a room...lol I am not getting him fixed because we will be breeding him as soon as he is ready and the gals are in heat.. Wooohooo yorkie puppies..

| Males can start puberty between 5 and 7 months, but you shouldn't breed him until he's 18 months and had all of his health screening done.

| A dog is not 100& mature until 18 months - 2 years of age. At 18 months, growth plates are fused, bones are done developing, and most genetic health issues will have shown up by this point. No dog should ever be bred before 1 year of age...they are too young to be able to evaluate them for conformation, temperment and health at this point. By 18 months you can evaluate patellas and hips...before this time, bones are still developing. Technically a male could breed at 6 months of age if his sperm is mature, but I don't think a male should be bred until they are 100% mature and you KNOW they have excellent conformation and health. Why rush it? I also think the male ought to have a title on him before being bred, but that's a whole other story
