| ![]() I made many complaints to our city about the mean pit bull behind us and nothing was done. He was frantic to get to my Yorkies. He hadn't yet figured out that he can jump the 3 foot fence between our yards and he butted his head against the fence to try to bust thru it to get my babies. He did managed to break the fence away from the post and there is a big gap where he has been trying to ram his way through it and get in my yard. I had to put up a small gardening fence across my yard to keep my babies well away from the back of the yard and only allow them outside to go potty. I don't think it is fair that my babies can't play in their yard because of an irresponsible pit bull owner. We finally got an animal control person hired here and she tried to convice the pit bull owners to control their dog. They agreed to but never did. She ended up scheduling a hearing for them before a judge. I took plenty of video of the dog being in a frenzy to get into my yard, to show the judge. The judge ordered them to erect a privacy fence around their yard (at my request) and we haven't had problems with that pit bull since, but it has only been up for about a week. I can still see him pacing through the cracks in the fence and I can hear his heavy, enraged panting. I worry that at some point he will attack the people who own him or their children. Maybe this suggestion will help someone else get something done about vicious dogs who live next to you. At least I am not worried that he will be able to get into our yard unless he escapes from their yard.

| ![]() I am very sorry for your loss. It is not your daughter's fault, and I hope that you can share the support from this thread with her so that she won't be so hard on herself. I'm very sorry about the loss of your baby. I recently lost a dog to a rare disease (had to help him cross the rainbow bridge,) so I know the pain of loss. There is nothing that can be said or done to make this easier on your family. In reference to the reply here about "pit bulls being banned," it's not the answer. The answer is responsible dog ownership for everyone! This means leashes, fenced yards, whatever it takes. Was the pit bull running loose? What he/she tied up? Was the owner supervising the dog? I'm assuming Coco was not on leash? This is a very tragic and sad event. However, implying that an entire "breed" be banned is not the answer. The dog "could have" been a boxer, a lab, greyhound...anything really. |
