Outside without a leash?

I am wanting to let my puppies out in the yard without a leash, but I am afraid they will run away?

I live in town, neighbors all over. lol

I just hate having to get the leash, hook them up to a tie out, is is all so inconvenient.

I read a lot on here where many of you let your Yorkies run in the yard. Do you have invisible fences? Or how do you train them to stay in your own yard?

What about if they see a cat or a squirl?

I hope you all can help me with this problem. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

i have a real problem with Kaya being an excape artist. she always comes back, but im afriad of cars hitting her.

invisible fences can run you around $200.

do you have her microchipped? Kaya is and its a big relief in case she does ever take off on me. its around $50-75 to have it done at my vet.

i would keep her on the leash and train her not to go past the line of the yard. constantly enforcing that she cant go past the yard. Kaya is pretty good about staying in the yard while im there. its when the other dogs open the door (yes they can open the screen door, annoying!) that she slips out the back that she explores.

puppies always want to venture off.

Getting the leash or hooking them up to a tie out may be inconveinent but DO IT!!!!!!
I'm not joking, I lost my baby Allie by letting her go potty by herself one night. And we live out in the country where you would think it would be safe. She went out with Koda and we never saw her again. It was only 3-5 minutes and that was it, she was gone from us forever. I spent countless days walking our woods, searching the countryside and looking for her and the heartache was just about unbearable for me
An inconveience is better than losing your baby. If they mean something to you do it for them! You will be rewarded with that precious face greeting you each day

So, they will probably run off but will come back. That is scary. LOL
I appreiciate your advice about the microchip. I must do that for sure. I may look into an electric fence also.

I've never let ours run off leash, to afraid of something happening to them, plus hawks could swoop down on them and carry her off, Maggy's a tiny lil thing. What about an outside dog kennel? I mean one of the big ones that have a canvas top on it? We have one of those for our big dogs, I'm sure it would work good for your furbaby.

Awwwwwwwwwww that is so very sad!!!! That is what I was afraid of. I dont know how so many let them go and they dont run away? I am going to look up electric fences now!!!! I could not stand if something happend. Thank you for your advice!!! Ronda, Harley and Sophia

Can't you fence the yard or get an X-pen. Never take them outside without a leash, especially if they haven't been fixed. I know it's inconvenient, but aren't they worth it? Something gets their attention, and they're off, so hard to catch, and if you run after them, they think it's a game. If they get in the street, they are so hard to see. If another dog catches them -- yorkies don't back down easily.

I wouldn't use an electric fense, it takes lots of training, plus I think it sends them a terrible message.

I used to take my pup out off leash in my front yard until he took off running towards the busy street and that was all it took. I count myself lucky that someone was there to grab him before something awful could happen to him. Never Never NEVER again will I take him out off leash. Whew! Don't let something bad happen. Get a pen or some sort of fencing that will keep your babies safe.....you won't be sorry and you will save yourself a lot of worry.

That is a great idea also except that my babies like to bark a lot. I wish I could stop them from that!!! I am sure my neighbors would like them to stop barking also. LOL I am sure that if I put them in a kennel they would bark non stop. As it is, I have to move them all over the yard with me where ever I am working. They must be very close by or they will bark and bark. Just like kids. LOL I just love them!!! Ronda, Harley and Sophia

Awwwwwww, I am so very happy to hear that all ended well !!! Thank God the little thing did not get hurt!! I am so afraid mine would run off also. I was just curious how so many let their little ones run. They must have electric fences or some kind of fence?

Those silly babies....they just have lots to say. Cutie pies. I love how they just have to be by your side while you work away in your yard.

I can fence the yard. I just read so much about people letting them run in the yard and was inquiring if they did have fences, or how they keep the little babies from running off.
That is what I though mine would do, run off. So I got on here to see how it is that others let theirs go running off a leash.
Why do you think an electric fence is a bad thing? I do not know a thing about them, but I am going to check into it.

I personally don't like electric fences.

Any animal can come in, but your babies wouldn't be able to get out because they're trained not to and will get shocked.

It would be horrible if your baby got attacked and couldn't get away.

I'd only suggest it if you were out with your baby at *all* times and they were never let out alone (even to potty).

When slade was a teeny puppy and i knew i could catch him if he decided to run I would let him out in the yard w/o a leash.

Now that he is pretty fast, I just rather not risk it. My baby's safety is worth whatever inconvience it may cost me to put him on a leash.
