Flying a puppy home? Have any of you had your pup flown home to you? How was your experience from picking up the puppy to seeing him/her for the first time in real life? I am only talking with reputable breeders , they are not close to where we live .. as much as I trust them, we never experienced getting a puppy this way.. would like to hear from those of you who experienced it Thanks Ree |
I am picking up a 6 months old 3 lb little yorkie future stud at the airport tomorrow night.I can't wait! I will let you know how it when... :animal-pa |
I have never had a dog flown to me here in the states (mine was from Germany), but have shipped one puppy and one adult out. I recommend bringing towels (wet ones like for babies too), food, water and nutrical or nutristat. When shipping under 12 hours (I think) they don't feed them - if it goes over a certain time period they will. There is a bag of food attached to the top of the crate that shipper put there, but I would bring some more just in case it fell off on the trip or something. The towels and wet ones are just in case they went potty because let's face it I am sure they are going to have to before they get to you! Of course nutrical or nutristat to get their sugars up because it's been a while since they ate. The puppy I shipped did GREAT! She was clean and very happy when she got there! I did ship her Continintal because they are the only ones that ship in the winter and you can track them online - that part I really liked. Although you can call Delta and verify if the flight is on time so it's ALMOST the same as the other didn't update very often and I was ALWAYS checking it. LOL I think it's just as stressful for the person shipping the pup as it is for the one getting it!! I was a worried mess!! Wendy |

I'm lived in NY (the Bronx) all my life and just moves to jersey at the end of march.....check out this website: Sawyer puppies & www.puppumatch4u.com....booth websites are for Carrie Sawyer, she has 10 children of her own and that is why my furbaby is so friendly......check out the site she's got some really cute babies now! If you decide to call and speak with her tell that you spoke with Jamila...also the thing I loved about she wanted to know where the pups were going and some things about you personally so that she could match you up with the perfect puppy for you:D |
flying a puppy home Hi again Jamila... thanks for the web site.. I took a peek and they are all adorable! I am so glad you had a great experience with her..that makes a huge difference. Bryan is adorable :) I have two different breeders that I am talking with.. one has a very small male, haven't seen him yet, she is emailing me pictures on Monday. The other has two litters, male and females will be available, but they are only 3-4 weeks so she hasn't taken pictures yet.. I will probably get a puppy from one or the other, it took a lot of research for me to find them. just wish I found a good, reputable breeder closer to home..... thanks for your help, that was so nice! I will keep you posted Ree |
aren't her pups adorable....I want to get another one from her but my boyfriend thinks I'm crazy!......Bryan is like having a new baby, he likes and need alot of attention.....Also Bryan came with a micro chip and was AKC registered and was current on all of his shots..keep me posted on when you get your furbaby....do you know anyone that has gotten a baby from the breeders your thinking about using? just be very careful |
flying a puppy home Hi JJ Thanks for all your advice! I appreciate it very much. no, I do not know anyone who got their puppy from either one of them, but they both are show breeders and their lines are in a lot of lines that I found when researching (that is how I found them) very pricey though (ouch!) Ree |
ok! good! Good luck with Everything.....keep my posted and send pictures of your baby....are you getting a boy or girl? |
flying a puppy home JJ I am not sure (boy or girl) the one breeder only has one boy..I will see him (pictures) monday.... the other breeder has both M/F but are too young for pictures..she said you can't really tell what they look like yet. My daughter wants a girl..lol! she loves all the clothes, bows and dog jewerly..I did tell her they do have lots of nice things for little boys too...:) we will see..right now, I have no idea  |
I had Peanut fly in from Arkansas to NJ on Delta. My breeder had to feed him within so many hours of his flight and we had to watch the weather because he came in August and Delta will not ship if the temp past 85 at any part of travel. His first flight was cancelled that was to come in at Philadelphia , then we changed and had him fly in to Atlantic city weather a little cooler. He did great was eating kibble on the way on laying in my daughter's lap. Good luck. |
Both of mine were flown in Zoe at 12 weeks from Arkansas and Peppee at 5 months was out of Texas to Pennsylvania. Zoe arrived no problems, well taken care of. Peppee was scared to death and still to this day is now skiddish with loud noises. I have to wonder if maybe his carrier was bumped or thrown or something. I didn't name him. I think typically when someone names a dog Peppee it is for a reason. He is very "peppy" now but still a bit skiddish. |
flying a puppy home vicki & erickajm thanks for sharing.. I do hear many good stories, heard some horrors too..scary! you both got your pups from the same state..is it the same breeder ? I hope your little one calms down some day..poor little baby! you both have cutie pies for sure! Ree |
How my angel came to me.... Yes!!! I have!!!:D and it was the most memorable and precious moment in my Life!!!!!!!!I will never forget!!! My baby girl :aimeeyork KeKe came from Brazil!and she was 4 months and a half ... the poor baby had to stay in the carrier for like 10-13 hours during the flight!!!! when I found that out i felt heartbroken .... but i remember that day like it was yesterday!!!! i live in port st. lucie , fl ... and we had to go pick her up in Miami, fl!!! 3 hrs nd a half... me and my boyfriend... her daddy .. woke up very very early like at 3 in the morning because the plane was arriving at 6 in the morning! .... we drove alll the way there starring at the 1 and only picture we had of her... we were very excited nd extremely anxious to our bones!!!! Him nd I couldn't wait to see our new baby!!! as we arrived at the airport ... the security said that the cargo was alll the way on the other side of the airport.... we had to drive another 20 mins!!!!! all around the entire airport!!!!!! we jumped in the car and sped untill we arrived at the cargo area.... we were even early and the 1st ones there.... i had to get her out of that cage!!!!! :( .... then, when we were able to enter the building, the lady said we had to drive to another building to recieve authorization.... another 10 mins.! ... then there was a $15 dollar fee .... that we had to pay CASH! i didn't have cash ... so another 10 mins. to drive to another building and back to get cash from an ATM.... FINALLLY!!!! they brought her out in this red carrier and put her on top of the counter..... she stood all the way in the back cuddled in a ball.... shaking!!!!!:( I jumped for the cage.. and the lady stops me and says i still have to fill out paperwork!!! dang it!! so another 5 mins.... FINALLLY ... now this time its for real! ... sike! we still had to tear the to lock strips!!!!! another 5 mins... to find a knife and cut it of!!! ok thats it!!! i tore the front cage off and grabbed her shaking body and held her heart next to mine and just breathed until her heart beat matched mine..... then i looked gently upon her face .... her eyes glared and glazed at me..... and thats when we first bonded..... :D then me and justin(my boyfriend) went and took our little ball of fur outside ... nd man can she run!! she ran around us like a racecar in a track.... that little 1.8 pounds of fur was ours!!! our little baby girl finally came home!!!!! :animal36:p:aimeeyork:rolleyes::animal-pa nd now she is 9 months old living happily ever after!!!! THE END! |
I got my last three from other states and they had to fly. In February I got Trouble from Moonlight Kennels in Springfield MO. Wanda sent me all the flight info. He was shipped on American Eagle. I could track him on the internet. The flight was on time, and when they brought him up to the counter. I could not see him for all the tape. Finally the attendant cut through so we could get him out. He was perfect. He was clean happy and healthy. He was bouncing all over the place. I had only seen a few pictures of him from the web site, but they were taken when he was aprox 6 wks old. He was 13 weeks when we got him. He is almost 6 months old now, and is still happy and healthy. The last two we got came from Yorkietymes in Bennington OK. I have only had them for three weeks. I had more contact with Anita from Yorkietymes about Chip (at the time there was only one) than I did with Wanda from Moonlight Kennels about Trouble. Anita sent me updated pictures of Chip, and we talked daily about him, and later about Gus his half brother. Anita shipped them on Delta. I could track their flight also. Their flight actually arrived alittle early, and they were brought up to the desk very quickly. Chip seemed a little scared while still in the cage, but warmed right up when we got him out. Both puppies were clean and dry. Each trip I took food, water, nutracal, blankets, harness and leash. I stopped when leaving the airport to let them streach their legs and go potty if needed. All three puppies came home great, and are still going strong. I would recommend either breader that I have mentioned. Puppies were healthy and communication was great. Good luck with your new baby. |
flying a puppy home wow Kimmy! I was at the edge of my chair waiting when you were going to get her out of that crate..lol! what a nice story..she came a long way..wow! may I ask why Brazil? Do you have pictures? I would love to see her. that was a great story, I am so glad she had a safe flight and you have a precious baby girl! |
We are using a transporter to take two puppies to their new homes tomorrow. The puppies fly inside and do not go as cargo. I hope this will be a good experience for the puppies and their new families. |
Our furbabies were flown from Ohio to Virginia via Delta. They came to us very clean and extremely healthy. Renotta Oliver of Yorkie City is an excellent breeder. She cares deeply about her babies. We continue to keep in touch with her. Pam |
I got my cutie Hailey from a breeder in Texas and she was flown to me in Virginia. I was nervous at first at the only thought my puppy had to fly all by herself and I was willing to make the plane trip to Texas so she could be with me during the flight on the way back home.Fortunately, the breeder told me she was sending my baby with one of her carrier friend so it was a big relief for me.I was so anxious and couldn't wait to see her and hold her. I will never forget the moment i first saw Hailey at the airport in her little plane carrier. I was sooooooo happy!!!! :) She was so tiny and cute and I remember she was so shaky!!!(probably scared from the whole flight experience!) I didn't bring anything with me since the airport was pretty close to my house. Good luck in your search! |
I had Daisy shipped to me at 11 weeks she was a whopping 1 lb 8 oz:eek: i was soooooo nervous! I waited and waited till the time to go get her we were an hour early hahaha! she was the only puppy on the flight. The guys were soooo nice they went and got her so i didn't have to wait any longer they drove her in a heated van to me(it was winter). They put her kennel on the counter and i looked in and fell in love!! She was perfect. She even held her poop till we got her out and then she pooped outside. she was spunky and beautiful the trip hadn't bothered her at all. |
Shipping Scam? Hi Everyone, I am new here and am looking for a puppy. I found an ad online from a local newspaper and emailed with questions about the puppy. The reason I am posting here is that this is the responce that I got: Hello, Thanks for your interest in my pet. The little puppy is still very much available for adoption. This little girl is potty trained and friendly with children She fit in the palm of your hand. She is AKC registered puppy .Adorable and sociable with great Personalities and very good bloodlines. She vet-checked, up to date on shots and deworming, and are health guaranteed.. All the papers will accompany the puppy,But right now I am in Africa on a Christian mission with my wife and we have the puppy right here with us.we are going to ship to you via express delivery on next day delivery after shipment through a shipping agent,so if you are interested in having the puppy, I want you to get back to me with your fullname, address including the nearest airport to you. Please if you know that you are not going to take very good care of my baby, do not reply me because I am giving her on adoption because of bad condition or anythi ng I am only giving this puppy out because we don't have time to take care of the puppy again due to the mission work before us here. She will be going for free so I will like you to get back to me with your full name and full address including your nearest airport and your contact phone number so that I can carry out shipping.? Name:Lizzy Adoption cost:Free Shipping Fees:$200.00 Usd Total cost:$200.00Usd? I don't believe that this is a true story and I won't be buying this baby, if there really is a puppy at all, but I wanted others to see this. I think it is a scam to just get the money. Why else would they offer this up in a Michigan paper? It must be more to ship from Africa than $200! Why take the poor thing to Africa at all!!! How should I handle this? Just ignore it or email back or somehow investigate and then dirty their name? |
flying a puppy home Hi everyone Thanks so much for sharing! I am so happy all of you had a good experience and your babies had a safe trip home. I do realize it is very common, but still made me nervous..I guess everyone gets that worried feeling on both ends until the puppy arrives and is perfectly fine. I can only imagine the excitement to see your new baby for the first time.. what a special moment! I will keep you posted ..thanks for helping me feel better :) Ree |
shipping scam you are very smart! ..it is a scam! There has been many of these ad's for the past few years now..you send them shipping for your 'puppy' and you go to the airport and there is no puppy.. just heart break. Ree |
I've had mine flown to me. Now everytime I go to the airport I feel like I should be getting a puppy! You can track the flights online, which is all you'll do all day long...and then leave really early because you can't wait another minute. Bring some food, a leash, bottle of water and dish so you can find a spot to feed/water and walk the puppy safely. Scissors too in case you need to cut any tape for stuff attached to the carrier. All mine have been tiny(1 lb 3 oz, 1 lb 6 oz and 1 lb 8 oz) that were shipped to me and they did just fine :) |
flying a puppy home makemepretty thanks for the great advice..I need to make a list so when the time comes, I am prepared :) your yorkie is just adorabe! Ree |
LoveLittleBits, I came across many of those ads also while i was searching to buy my puppy online and the ads they all pretty much said the same thing. Then i did some research and found out it was a scam! |
Yeap!!! It definetaly a scam.....don't wast your time! |
Flying a Puppy Home Be very careful. I bought a beautiful boy from out of state, one of the worst experiences of my life. Puppy was fine when he was sent, arrived brain damaged and having severe seizures. Medication would not help. Breeder said send him back, which I did, because she said that she had her own vet and could get him good care. I felt like a giant turd sending him back. He ended up being put to sleep. My theory is that he was put in a non pressurized compartment during his trip. Don't use American Airlines!:( |
flying a puppy home OMG! Tears are rolling down my face..I can\'t even imagine this. That is the most horrifying story I have ever heard. I am actually sick right now. That poor baby suffered so much. I am so sorry for you and what you experienced. Honestly, I would of never put him back on a plane in that condition. I would of taken him to my vet and had him call the breeder and tell her the puppy needed to be put to sleep. This is a true eye opener for many of us in what can happen. I am truly very sorry. I will not be able to shake this story ever. Thanks for sharing your painful experience, I am sure many will think twice before considering this. Ree |
