Sorry I didn't reply to this before, just now seen it. I'm a smoker and I most usually smoke in my bedroom with the window open.

Kudos to you on two points---that you are reducing your intake and that you don't smoke around your furbabies. Feel sorry for your friend's little Yorkie. I would think that a runny nose would wake her up. Just a little warning, though. Please be real careful that you don't let your Yorkies get too fat. It adds stress to their little knees. I feed my Yorkies 1/8 cup Canidae morning and evening plus a tsp. of yogurt and a tsp. of applesauce or mushed green beans. I used to feed more but I woke up when one of my Yorkies had to have LP surgery and the vet said she was too fat. Her other knee has stabilized since she lost weight.

I don't smoke, never have but if i did i wouldn't ever smoke near any of my pets. My mom's friend used to smoke and her cat died of cancer:(

I too don't smoke, but if second hand smoke isn't good for people, why would it be OK for pets?

That is exactly what my vet said but they always seem hungry to me, they all have their own little bowls and I fill them up in the morning before I go to work, when I get out of work around 5:30 I fill their bowls again and they eat every last kibble then around 9 you see them going to their bowls again to see if there is something to eat and it looks to me like they are hungry, even though I do give them treats throughout the day, one thing though I might add my baby's play all day long once I get home we are outside and the balls come out and you have to see my baby's run after that ball and we don't just play for 1 hr they can keep going and going, I think they burn off alot of the calories they take in throughout the day that by 9 at night they are hungry again. I will try to ignore the fact that they are at their bowls looking for more food but I just can never tell if my babies are full or not.

This is a major subject that draws many, many pros and cons about smoking.
I'll have to tell you "my" story and what I think about smoking. My grandparents raised me and my grandfather smoked a pipe and cigars in the house. They had a Boston Terrier that lived to be 23 years old. I started smoking back in high school in 1955 and got pretty hooked right away. (not unlike someone who is an alcoholic but didn't realize it till the drinking started) I went on to marry and have 6 sons. I smoked, drank wine and beer all thru. each pregnancy. All my boys were 8 and 9 pounders with no health problems at all. In fact the maternity ward had ash trays for pregnant and new moms. I even had an ash tray beside my bed in the hospital. My husband also smoked and we did it in the house, (as everyone did in those days). We always had dogs, and not one dog ever had health problems and all lived to be 16 years and older. I have long since quit when there was so much negative publicity about it that made you feel like you had to become a closet smoker or get very bad looks or even rude comments. I smoked for 50 years and have not had any health problems at all. I truly belive some people are just predisposed to get cancer no matter what, and some are not. I really truly believe if smoking gave you lung cancer, heart problems and emphysema then everyone that smoked or smokes would have these diseases. I do not suggest smoking to anyone because you just never know if your predisposed to getting cancer.

On my computer, the time stamp between your two posts was less than half an hour. :) I think you need to keep in mind that lots of people are working right now. In my case (and others, I'm sure), I am here but I go back and forth doing other things and I have been on and off all morning. I just now saw your post, so I am responding. :)

I was just thinking (last night) about starting a thread on smoking. I know that there is a lot of information out there now but that wasn't the case when I began. In fact, the marketing ploys then were glamour (women) and manliness (men). We were given little candy cigarettes. Primed from childhood to smoke.

Now...I don't know about others but....I am a very strong willed person. I can do anything I set my mind to doing....except quitting nocotine. I jokingly say that I will never quit quitting. But honestly....I would rather they just make them illegal. I just can't see myself slinking down some alley with "Pssst. Got cigarettes"? I know they are right up the street and I am addicted.

Rude smokers really irritate me. Like you, I don't smoke inside. Anywhere. Even when I am outside, I go away from others that don't smoke. It really irritates me to go to a public place and the employees are right out front....exposing others, including children to their smoke. I feel the management needs to have an area where they can smoke (if it is to be allowed) where others aren't exposed.

Your friend and her breeder are wrong about the smoke not having an impact on the dogs. It would have to. They have lungs. Period.

Recently I saw what I believe was a grandmother, in her car, windows rolled up....smoking away with three little children in there with her. I was very angry about that. Yep. Some of us are addicted. We smoke. BUT....we don't have to take others down with us. There is no excuse for being like that. Smokers may think they have rights but the rest of the non-smoking world has a right to not smoke...second hand. Any smoker that doesn't believe this is a selfish a$$.

All of this is JMO.

I used to be a smoker but Lily helped with that, I will not smoke around her so it made smoking impossible because she is attached to me at the hip LOL. I still smoke sometimes but when I do it, it is not around her. My sister in law is a big big smoker and she does it while the dog sits next to her and the dog is old and has no issues. I think of it as if I wont smoke with a child next to me I wont do it with my fur baby.

It really wasn't a whole lot of time that passed between your posts. A lot of people are working and doing other things during the day and not just sitting on YT. You've got to be a little patient with any forum that is so large.

My husband smokes but he does not smoke in the house. However, when we go somewhere in his car, he does smoke while driving with his window and a back window down. It still really bothers me so I try to sit as close to the door on my side as possible and shield Hot Rod.

I'm not a smoker, used to be when I was younger. If I did smoke I definitely would NOT smoke around the dogs unless I was outside and then of course make sure the smoke is not going their way (just as I wouldn't around kids). I wouldn't smoke in the house or the car. Most of the people I know that smoke do not smoke in their homes, they go outside.

Yes, I smoke outside, can't quit, when Tricksie sees me pick up a cigarette she goes the other way.

The reason I got upset to begin with was that right after I posted this, someone else posted about teapot ears and got 44 answers meanwhile I'm still waiting for one answer, not to be funny but I believe this post is a way more serious post that needed serious answers than the teapot ear thingy. I just want to prove a point to my friend i surely will be letting her read all of these post so she can see I'm not just being paranoid, it's common sense. I just needed back up now I got it, as soon as I get out of work I will show her this post, oh yeah I am at work, working til 5:30 but I still find time to check out yorkie talk and answer post and to put up post. AGAIN THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR BACKING ME UP MY FRIEND WILL HEAR FROM EVERYBODY AS SOON AS i GET OUT OF WORK, I'M GOING TO TRY TO GET HER TO JOIN YORKIE TALK SO ALL OF YOU CAN GET ON HER CASE WITH ME ;)

lolol I am sooo impatient, hahahahah. I can't help it trying to learn to be more patient, it's funny because my boss and I are really good friends and she tells me I have more patients with my dogs than I do with her or any of the employee's under me, lololol.:yelrotflm:
