| What are the symptoms for liver shunt? Chanel has always been a picky eater but lately its just too much. Also she has a tendency of throwing up alot. I always noticed that when she does this , theres always something in her vomit that she not supposed to be eating. for ex hair, dust from the vacuum, candy.Anyway recently I noticed that she still kind of throws up, sometimes throwing up a yellow liquid. My vet told me recently that she had a bacterial infection and while she was there she did some routine bloodwork.Everything came back great. But someone on another thread told me that it doesnt show in bloodwork until the liver is 70% damaged. Is this true? Can anyone tell me what the symptom are. Also If you have a dog with a liver shunt what was your babies symptoms? |

| To the second poster, throwing up bile when the stomach is empty can be normal. Liver enzymes can be up if the liver isn't 70% damaged but that is really when it starts to show. Some of the symptoms are: GI upset (vomiting and diarrhea) Depression or lethary Frequent urination or other urinary problems Shaking Circling (walking in circles for no reason) Head pressing (pressing head against a solid object) Off balance Pica (cravings for unnatural food...like rocks) Inappetance Reactions to medications, vaccinations and anesthesia None of these symptoms need to be present for there to be a problem, especially with MVD.
