I don't mind the colours of Yorkie ~ I think they are all gorgeous. Alfie is blue nearly all over with bits of tan on the face and he is KC reg. His mum was the same colour as him but I think his dad was blue and tan. And I know for a fact that the breeders did not mix them for colours. I have never heard that before. I know over here its breeding to get the smallest of Yorkie but not colours. |
I agree with Krissie Bella 100% i ahve two different colour yorkies one is brown andblack with short curly hair.My other one is long straight hair the colour sliver grey colour it does not matter what colour they all yorkies are special. What ever colour they are. Mum to Max and pepsi and cindy(god bless her soul) |
Those who oppose the off colored yorkies, other than producing colors that aren't to the breed standard (remember, standards have changed not only with YTCA but also other breed registries) is it the color that you are opposed to? Is it the Genes that you are opposed to? Is it the fear of change that you are opposed to? What exactly makes an off colored yorkie, that comes from generations of AKC registered Yorkshire terrier parents, any less a Yorkshire terrier than their standard blue and tan colored siblings? :scratchhe |
I am a newbie in all rights but I think the color is not as important as the health of the pup. It is my understanding the health problems come from inferrior breeding practices, which are sometimes used to get the colored yorkies. I am not pointing the finger at anyone. My opinion is that if the health of the pup can be guarenteed to be good then the color should be a bonus if someone wants a different color than what lay people consider normal. the Biewers and Silver, Tan and multi colored Yorkies that I have seen in pictures on this web site are so beautiful. How could you not love them? I think eventually as the Biewers and other colors become more predictable from solid bloodlines the standards will change again allowing those colors to be part of the AKC, and other registration processes. Just My 2 cents.. I love them all they are all just soooo cute. |
Biewers Oh I love Biewers! SO cute!:p:thumbup: |
1 Attachment(s) Teddy is my first yorkie, and I have to admit you are all confusing the tar outta me!!! He is APRI reg (well I have to get it in my name) but I don't know what to put for his color and now i am even more confused! He is 5 months old, and big for a yorkie... I don't care that I can't show him or anything, but it makes me second guess him... KWIM?? What should I put as his coloring??? |
Alfie is KC Reg which is the UK version of AKC and he was registered as black and tan. |
black and tan Cookie is CKC registered as black and tan, I found Gizmo so he's not registered to my knowledge, but he's silver and tan |

He is black and tan. forget about the gold, he will change colors anyway. |
Thanks guys!!! I don't care about papers, I love my teddy bear! AND I think he is a great looking dog!! lol |
Different colored Yorkies :aimeeyork In my opinion, I think multi colored yorkies would be so cute. I'm not a breeder but do own a standard Black/Gold Yorkie with some blue on the back of his coat. I think the important thing is to consider any health issues with cross breeding. I love the standard Yorkie's personality and wouldn't want this to change during cross breeding. I'm studying Vet Tech. medincine and have seen... Yorkiepoos, Yorki/maltese alot and yes ,they may be cute as a button, but the Maltese mixed with the Yorkie only hightens the chances of Livershunt and other simular diseases. Gum disease, colapsed trachea...things like this... I don't think its wise to take 2 different breeds with the same health issues and mix them together. JMO Kat |
Alfie is adorable!!!!! Kat |
I agree... Blk/Tan or Gold whichever you like. Some say Tan others say Gold. My Jack gets real blonde " almost white, which I love" in the summer time then back to gold during the winter. Remember, just like us they have real hair that can be affected by the sun....right??? kat |

I wonder if the Biewer club would mind very much if I started breeding blue and tan Biewers?(blue saddle, tan head and legs, kinda looks like a Yorkie) Supposedly, that is the color of every Biewers background. Maybe I can change their standard so I can show them too. Do you think that they are as passionate about their breed as the YTCA is about Yorkies? |
