| Parvo outbreak! We are experiencing a parvo outbreak here in Tucson. I have to check with my vet to see if my girls are up to date on their shots. I have been told that it is an annual vaccine. If it is, I don't think they are up to date. I am not going to take them anywhere out of our walled backyard. No groomers, no anything. I think they will be OK quarantined here (we have a nice big yard with a high brick wall all around it) until I figure out how to get their shots. Anyone in this area, please be careful. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I just found this link, it sounds like keeping them in your own yard won't completely keep them safe because birds can transmit the virus to dogs. Parvo FAQs I just figured the vet gave them all necessary shots.

| It would be best to just call your vet to see if there is an outbreak and what he recommends. Sometimes the outbreaks are just limited to certain areas and not wide spread. Most of these vaccinations protect your dog for several years or longer. |

| We are in Yuma and there is a HUGE outbreak here as well. The vet and animal control lady on our base told me to be really careful. Maverick is up to date on his shots but it's still very scary. |

| Be careful about your shoes and clothing as well. I would change your clothes and soak the bottom of your shoes in bleach when you are out in high dog-trafficked areas. Franklin got parvo and we never once took him outside. Parvo is a horrible virus, please be careful.

| My vet has always been very vigilent against parvo. He takes great measures with his own clothes and shoes before entering his own home to greet his own dogs. He says that in our area, parvo is a very real threat. We make sure to keep up with our vaccines faithfully!

Nancy, sorry, I don't have much more info. I know that the County animal shelter had an outbreak and had to euthanize many dogs. There are a couple of veterinary clinics in my area, and they all have signs out front with an alert about parvo.... My vet might tell me that my dogs are OK. I guess not all vets recommend yearly vaccines. I'll call tomorrow and find out. | |

| Whew!!! Just pulled out my records. My girls had their parvo boosters a few months ago. I just can't keep track in my head anymore--that's why I keep a file with the documentation. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I don't know why I didn't think of that, I was going to call vet first thing in the morning. I looked at Joey's records and he had a shot in December, so I'm assuming that if they've had the shot they are safe?

| outbreak or not... Parvo is nothing to be kidding about... outbreack or not is better to be sure than sorry, the anual distemper or "5way" booster is a must for all domesticated dogs so it is nothing to be taken lightly ....
