| About to cry...long, venting I'm about to cry! I just got back from a horrible vacation. Meeko had diarrhea the whole week and I get home and my roommate and I had to evict our other roommate. She's has a ton of problems, keeps getting fired from jobs and can't make rent. My other roommate and I are out over $700 rite now because of her. Then I find out my roommates pets (dog and 2 cats) are infested with fleas. Uh HELLO!!! Why didn't you tell me when I first got home so I could have kept my dog away!!!! She starts telling how Monroe is always scratching and sometimes cries for no reason. Mind you that she messaged while I was gone and said Monroe had a few fleas and I told her about the Dawn bath. She said that she gave her a bath and combed her with a flea comb and she doesn't see anything. Soo I rolled Monroe on her back and I see about 50 fleas. Shes a 6lb Chi/Maltese mix. I was like, this isn't a few fleas , this is an infestion. I grabbed my flea comb and starts combing threw and found thousands of fleas. I told her bf to run to Publix and get some borax and she told me to shave her dog. Her dog has the worst hair of the 2 breeds. It's hard and wirey. Soo I got out my chipper and used the shortest attachment. It made it soo much easier to see the fleas on her back. So I combed threw her and killed as many as I could and then told her to put some more Dawn on her and let her sit in the tub. She sprinkle the borax in her room and the living room. I gave her my backup capstar and Monore was fine. She actually looks cuter with the short hair but shakes soo much! So all this time I was forced to lock Meeko up in my room, hoping he wouldn't get a ton of fleas. I go in my room to check him and of course he has them. Soo I combed threw him and killed maybe 20. Grabbed the borax and used the rest in my room. She vaccummed her carpet and the living room within 10 mins and I left it it my room for an hour. He was fine. I went in to check on Monroe and she didn't have any new fleas but her 2 cats were a whole other story. The past 2 months she's let Napolean room around outside and he just comes back when he's hungry. I know, how stupid! Even knowing there's a few strays hanging around our building. Well he was full of flea as well as Scarlet. It was too late to her more capstars, so we went to bed. This morning she went out and bought the capstar, gave it to the cats and then Monroe had fleas again. UGH! We combed threw her all night and then gave her another capstar. So I go in my room and find another 20 on Meeko. Luckily she bought the capstars and I could give him one. So I let him sleep and check him 4 hours later. I find about 30 LIVE fleas running all over him. Shouldn't they be dead by now? Is this pill not working? Do I need to give it more time? So with evicting my roommate, I'm taking over her room since it's a lot bigger. Well this girl really sucks and won't give us the money she owes. My roommate and I called the cops to see what we could do. We decided boxing up her things, she doesn't have a lot of things. We call her and tell her we did this and she has 24 to get her stuff because our new roommate is coming in the afternoon. I go in there to vaccumm and I think this is where he got all those fleas? Maybe they were breeding in her room. And I poured some more borax powder down and gonna leave it on all night. This way when I go to move my stuff in tomorrow it's already down for 24 hours. I hope this works. I don't know what else to do. I told my roommate that Napolean has to be an indoor cat because I can't do this again. She doesn't think he brought in the fleas because dogs go out everyday and don't catch fleas. We both have our pets on Frontline plus. I also have Meeko on senitel for heartworms. I dont know what else to do. She doesn't want to bomb the house, which I kinda don't want to either, unless it's our last option. We're going to put more powered down tomorrow and leave it on for 24 hours. Why did capstar work on her pets so fast and isn't doing anything for Meeko! Am I being too impacient. By now it's been on for 5 hours and they are still ALIVE! I'm sorry this was so long, I'm just so stressed rite now. I hate seeing him scratching! I can't believe my roommate waited so long to help her pets. She didn't even think it an infestion. Monroe definitely had more than 300 fleas on her. Who knows how many on the cats. I do feel a little better getting it off of my chest tho.

| Capstar works within 20 minutes ... Someone also told me that bathing in some type of heavy salt solution works. However, the problem is the fleas are living in your carpet now and are probably all over. It sounds like you will need to set tons of flea bombs and get everyone (including pets of course) out of the place for several hours. OR ... if it's an apartment or something, get them to call pest control for the professional grade stuff! That REALLY sucks ...

| I'm so sorry for you!!! I moved into a rented house once that was already infested with fleas. We tried everything including hiring an exterminator! The one thing that finally got rid of them was a tin of flea spray from the vets! You can spray the whole house/apartment with it including your own beds! Leave for approx 1/2 hour then come back and open all your windows. Different vets sell different brands and we have had a few different ones, but they all work, and the effect lasts for upto 6 months! Hope this helps.

| What a nightmare!!!!! It's the pits living with irresponsible roommates. At least you are responsible enough to tackle the problem. Someday you will have your own place and not have these hassles. Our daughter shares an apartment with 2 other girls while she's in pharmacy school. She hates it---dirty dishes left around for days, using her expensive cookware and not taking care of it, music with loud, thumping bass at odd hours of the night, hammering nails into walls for pics during the night, roommates who hate pets, no one takes care of the garbage---the list goes on and on.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | You need to treat your whole house - what the capstar will do is kill biting fleas only - NOT the eggs...or the ones that aren't 'biting' yet - so basically - you're doing a quick fix but not a permanant one on top of that you need Frontline Plus - or a good preventative from your vet AND you need to treat the whole house...not just now but maybe again in a few weeks to make sure they're all gone. (personally I'd bomb it but if any pets still have fleas - it's not going to do much good and you'll see them again) they're SUCH NASTY CREATURES ! ....they give me the willies and thinking of pets infested makes me feel so bad you CAN get rid of them but it's going to take treating your apt AND ALL THE PETS THAT LIVE THERE. Any pets that are 'inside and outside pets' will need something to keep fleas OFF and that stuff is expensive but worth it - |

| oh no J!!!!! pardon me, but WTF ! I hate when crap like this happens and people are like "oops, i didnt think it was a big deal". I had roommates a couple of years while in college and I hated that my peace of mind relied so much upon the actions of others. As for the girl that left you high and dry I believe you can take legal action against her given your lease has her name on it as well as well as some other stipulations (However, I dont know how it goes if one roommate "evicts" another). I'm sorry this happened to you but agree with the other posters. If it truly is as bad as it sounds perhaps you should seek the help of a professional. Poor Meeko once you know he is free on fleas do you have a friend in your building or a neighbor who could maybe look after him so he is close to you and wont get re-infested with fleas. If you need to vent anymore or just wanna get out of the house we can go out for coffee or something or you can give me a ring to just complain. Dont worry everything will be better by next week or so Hugs, V n B

YT Addict | One of my friends had a cat in college and her whole house was infested. The only way to get rid of them is to take the pets to the vet and get them a flea bath, leave them there while you go home and set off flea bombs and you need to treat the yard to or you will just drag them back in especially if you live on the first floor. Walk outside with some white socks on and stand there and see if you have fleas all over. It could be the whole place is infested. If so, call the apt complex and have them spray inside and out. |

| I think you are also going to have to bomb the house. Murfee is on flea preventative but still got fleas last summer. The bath in Dawn original really works well with killing the fleas instantly and my vet said that I could spray Adams flea sprayy on his feet and belly every time he went outside...it was safe. You can also used the feline Adams on your roommates cat. Good luck.

| OMG, Thats a horrible experience!! I have three yorkies and I don't allow them outside for this very same reason!!! I feel terribly seeing them scratch over flea or tick bites... Hope you can resolve your infestation problem before changing rooms, or your problems will get worst... Remember that they multiply rapidly, so take action ASAP!! All of our pets are on Frontline Plus monthly. I've watched her put it on her animals so I know she's using it. She doesn't wanna use a fogger or bomb the house because she thinks it'll be really harm for the pets. I'd really love to get a professional in here but, with the other roommate situation, we can't really afford it. We've had to pick up all of our third roommate's rent and bills, which is way over $700. The capstar is working on her animals but, not on mine. It figures right! She's the one who started this mess and it's gonna be easier for her to clean up. I'm about to give him a Dawn Lemon bath now. She's just pissing me off because she's not motivated to clean the carpets. I'm sick of being the one who brings it up every hour because she's doing stupid things. HELLO!! this is a big deal! we need to fix this now! I told her earlier that if I can't get rid of the flea on Meeko by tomorrow I'm fogging my room. She wasn't happy about that but, I dont care. I'm just about finished switching rooms and I'm gonna put all my attention to him now. I wanna scream and cry every time I see him scratching. It just sucks that his coat is soo dark and I can't see them when they run to his back. I'm tempted to shaving him down like we did with Monroe yesterday. I don't want to but, it'll be soo much easier to see them. Think thats a crazy idea??? Thanks for all your advice!! i really do appreciate it.

YT Addict | I say fog it! Forget what she thinks, she obviously didn't listen to you so why listen to her. If you fog it and she doesn't like it, she'll think twice about being irresponsible next time when you are gone! If you are worried about the animals, board them for one day. |

| omg, that is one mess to be in... I feel for you..wow I would bomb and tell her to do the reading on it.. and do not ask.. just say we are doing it at such and such a time.. that is it.. that is all.. Good heavens I have never had to have a room mate.. but that would be terrible as it would drive me nuts.. we moved into a place on time that was infested with fleas.. it was terrible. had 4 persian cats that never went out side.. we had a window van and put an external heater in it.. and while working on the house for two weeks the cats hade to stay in the van.. it was hard. bringing them in and bathing them and back out again...I had a hard time living with the flea problem and it was only in the basement.. I was lucky but it took three times of having some one in to spray to get rid of them... anne |
