How many of you use people shampoo on your dogs??

I have noticed that a few people use human shampoo on thier dogs and I am wondering how many do. I learned in grooming school that it is ok to use human shampoo once in awhile but not regularly. Its not good for them. There are chemicals in human shampoo that can over time affect your dog.

I don't ...but did try a few on Chanel just to see how it worked - Mane & Tail was the brand - but I still love the CC Systems. Cheri has a different coat and she can use different shampoos but I stick with dog shampoo for her too.

I did a couple of times but it makes Coco itch, even the baby ones. The vet said human shampoo's are not good because they have different PH level, than pet shampoo.

Mane and tail was actually manufactured for animals, horses to be exact. I used to use it on my horse all the time. now when I see it in the store I have to chuckle cause it was never in stores like walmart when I used it for my horses.

J&J isn't bad for the dogs but most human shampoos are. You gotta be really careful what you use on them, human shampoo wise.

I totally agree...Sometimes it's good to alternate shampoos and get a clean wash of the residue from one shampoo to another - but as a rule - Dog shampoo is formulated for them - ours is for us - I know lots of shampoos will make dogs itchy or strip their hair of natural oils which is why it's Not good to use human shampoo on them.

MOST of the shampoo sold to us is all water anyway - it's such a HUGE marketing scam - we really don't get what we think we're getting these days. I've had someone who was a hairdresser tell me that Pantene is one of the worst companies for marketing a product that is actually bad for our hair - as something great and mostly water.

Yeah I have a friend who is a hairdresser and she has told me that pantene is really bad for your hair. It has some kind of silicone in it to make your hair look shiney but it is soooo bad for your hair.. It dries it out.

I used Magic Coat Oatmeal Shampoo and Tressemme conditioner. Sometimes Infusium Leave-in conditioner. Kelly, what do u thunk about Using Threseeme and Infusium ? I need to get a good conditioner gor Gucci. Any recommendations?

My problem is that every type of dog shampoo I have ever seen smells like dog. I don't want Baby to smell like a stinky dog, I want her to smell fresh and clean after a bath. I also use a conditioner on her...is this bad? Man, I'm a bad yorkiemommy.

I actually like the Nova Pearls line of dog shampoos. That is what I have here at home. I use it on Memphis who has the wirey cairn terrier hair and he gets really nice and soft.

I don't use human shampoos on them but I do use human conditioner once in a while. I've used the conditioner that comes with the Feria hair dye and it makes Tuffy smell great and feel so soft. I haven't found a dog conditioner that I like yet but I have Chris systems on my next-to-try list.

I bought the White on White from CC systems for my white Eskie, Fiona. A couple of weeks ago, I complained to my hairdresser about my blonde haircolor (anything to cover the grey!) turning orangish after a couple of weeks. She tried to sell me some expensive purple shampoo that looked just like Fiona's White on White.

So I came home and mixed the WoW with my Rusk Brilliance shampoo and I LOVED it!!! I've used my concoction a couple of times now and my hair is more managable and shinier than ever, and the brassy color is gone!

I haven't sat down to figure the price out but I bought the super-size WoW, so I KNOW it has to be cheaper than the Rusk products....

So there you have it! I'm a dog at heart!! Wooof!!!
If I start licking my butt (like I could ever reach it!!) you'll know I've gone too far!!! LOL

I use CC products and love it. Lexi is always soft and she smells so good(although don't sniff it from the bottle). One a month I was using the CC clarifyer, but this last month I esed Biolage hydrating shampoo and conditioner. The CC Ice on Ice is great also, but there again once a month when I used the Biolage I also use the Biolage milk spray stuff. It makes her so soft and smells so good. I have never tried any other human shampoo cuz my family uses nothing but Biolage so I have never bought anything else...

I used my paul mitchell tea trea oil conditioner on toby about every other time i bathed him.

You learned right. I work in a grooming shop as the bather so Ive learned tons about all different kinds of shampoos. The PH balance in human shampoo is completely different from our babies shampoos because their skin and hair is so much different from ours. If you HAVE to use human shampoo once or twice for some reason, youre OK. But every bath time is a huge no no as it an irritate their skin.

Ah the joyful bather job. Sorry, but that is the crap job at our salon. Do you enjoy being a bather? Any intrest in grooming??
