| Should We Get Another Yorkie??? I don't post very often, but I need all of your opinions. I currently have an 11 month old Yorkie Female (she is the love of my life). My husband and I are at work most of the day and we have noticed that she pretty much sleeps all day when we are at work (her pee pee pad is dry when we get home). Then when we are around she if very needed and whines a lot for our full attention. We honestly do not have any more free time (just got a new house too) to spend with a new puppy like we do with our current one. But we think it might be better for her to have a play mate so that she is not constantly seeking our attention. What do you guys think???? Do you think we should get another one and spend the initial time taking care of both of them until they play and get used to each other. I need HELP!!! |

| Welcome to YT! I love having 4!! We waiting too long to get the second one and it was tough bringing in Angel when Kissy was 5 years old. She was an only dog too long. I now have added one every year for the past 3 years and they all get along great. They love having playmates. Kissy still prefers to be alone but she also misses the other girls if they aren't here. I would never have just one dog again...they are just so much happier with playmates. Good luck!! If you get her a little brother, be sure and have her spayed soon. |

| Here are a couple of great articles to help you make such an important decision: Think twice before getting 2 puppies - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Two Puppies or One? - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company! |

| I would like to add another small dog to my family although I think my yorkie is happy and very spoilt being the only one. The only thing I keep worrying about is vet bill and pet sitter bill. Vet bill in GTA is pretty high, consultation fee can be as much as $70. I would prefer to know that I can be able to afford all that before I get another pup.

| I can honestly say that my 1 dog drove me insane for affection (trust me I love it but not when I am trying to do laundry) so I decided to get another one to see if that would help while she was alone....she hated him for 2 weeks and I thought she would kill him. After that trial, he became her best buddy and one does not go anywhere without the other. I have had them for 12 years now and it made a world of difference. |

YT Addict | I think you should invest the money that you would have spent on a new dog in sending your current baby to daycare so she will have someone to play with all day and then she'll be much happier and better taken care of than just being left at home. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I think it's a great idea to give them a playmate but if things are a bit tight time wise it might not be the right decision to make. Puppy Daycare would definitely be a good alternative. I would like to add another so Zoey can have a playmate but I am a bit hesitant because I am just on the cusp of finishing up her potty training.

| I agree with getting second pup, but you still need to devote time to them, now even more since there will be two... When I only had Nygee, my first, We would constantly take her with us where ever we could... But there were times that she wasn't allowed in certain places, and we were forced to leave her home... It broke my heart... And thats when we decided to get Gizmo... Now she had someone with her even when we were not home, and she didn't have separation anxiety... I'll tell you, double the work... But it paid off... So now I have 3, Gypsy was the latest addition to our family, and the one who stirred the pot... She's a little fireball... And keeps them both in tune... I devote alot of time to them, thats very important... So think about it very well, these little furballs are going to need you for their entire lives, and they have a long life span if healthy... So only you can make that call... Good luck with your decision... I Love My Furbabies, Nygee, Gizmo & Gypsy!! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I love having multiples. The 2 that are closest in age play all the time together. It still is more work the more you have, more grooming, more training and more expenses but it is worth it.

| I think having a second dog is nice for the first one to have a companion, BUT that second one is still going to require a lot of attention. So, you will have TWO needing attention instead of one. If you are already stressed for time, you might reconsider getting a second. I have two boys, and I LOVE having two. They do play a lot together, and they keep each other company. But, they both need lots of attention. I think most yorkies need more attention than other breeds....that's just my experience. Also, don't forget that means two to bathe, brush and groom. I spend a lot of time with my dogs. I'm either playing with them or taking care of their grooming needs, walking them, or training them. Maybe you can see if there are any doggy day cares in your area. Even one or two days a week might make the difference.
