When i first joined YT there was A thread about a family who lost two of their yorkies the same night. they drowned in A man made pond. Anther one was A family had A yorkie jump off their deck, killing him instantly. That one scares the crap out of me. My Suzi has started running out the front door and we live on the second floor! Her nose is always sniffing and she knows there is A drop... It still scares me. |

I was just reading this thread last week ( I had to skip around I couldn't read them all they are to sad.) but we had a freak accident over the weekend and when it was over I thought about this all these posts. Me and hubby were cleaning out the shed and he handed me a rake. I put the rake part on the ground and was going to let the handle just fall to the ground. Well our little 3 pound Meaty was walking towards the rake as it was falling. It ended up hitting him in the head. He ran off crying, he wouldn't come to me, he kept pawing at his head. I felt horrible. Turns out he his ok, just a little bump on his head but I think if it had his neck or back it could have been tragic. I know it hurt him, it would have hurt me if it hit me in the head. I felt so guilty. Lessoned learned... always be aware of where the babies are. |
My sister lives out in the country on 10 acres, with no close neighbors. She has an inground swimming pool in the backyard with no security fence around it. One day her closest neighbor's Yorkie got out of his yard and came to my sister's yard and drown in her pool. It was a very traumatic experience for both the neighbor and my sister. They tried to do CPR on the dog but it was too late. |

My sheltie and beagle were horsing around on my kitchen hardwood floor and my sheltie slipped and hit his head on the floor, it hit so hard that iI heard a thud..it almost knocked him out, he ended up having 2 seizures in a row, spent 2 days at the vets and is now on permanent seizure medicine. I aboustly do not allow any of my dogs to play in the kitchen anymore, It just too dangerous. |
oh man, these stories are tragic. One that sticks out to me was someone was walking and holding thier dog and a man tried to take their dog right out of their arms... who does that?? I know its not a 'freak accident' but its not an everyday occurance and is something to be aware of. I had a yorkie that jumped off our deck to the paved driveway to get to my ex-fiance's brother. I was freaking, he was freaking, brother was freaking... this baby was 3 months old and 2.5lbs. He was FINE. Amazingly fine! But tragically at almost 5 months old, he got sick, I rushed him to the vet where he passed away, they did a necropsy and found he had ingested rat poison. NO CLUE where he got into it... but that was a HORRIBLE freak accident. I accused EVERYONE for weeks of having rat poison in their house and not telling me! :( My boys now are just INSANE! Luckily they are on the 'bigger' side (6lbs and 9lbs) so jumping off the bed/couch/patio table is an everyday thing for them. I spent months trying to stop them but they won't be stopped. They have been stepped on, kicked, they choked on treats, they fell in the pool, dropped by kids holding them, ran out of the house, ate duck poop .... Luckily I am ALWAYS watching and right there to catch things and fix it right away. They have never been hurt! Amazing! I sound like a bad parent, but its so hard to let them play and protect them at the same time. They do things so quickly you just can't anticipate it all. I just always try to watch them, choking - learned how to do the heimlic, fall in pool - got him out immediately and put lifejacket on him, stepped on them - learned how to do the yorkie shuffle, kick them - well they are always underfoot.. at least its been gentle kicks from the shuffle! :) |
My heart sank with each of these posts. I didn't want to keep reading but I think it's best because I've learned about some accidents that never occured to me that could happen. Sasha jumped off my balcomy one time. Fortunately there was shrubbery right below it so it padded her fall. I ran out of the door hysterically but thankfully she was ok. She's 7 months and almost 6 pounds now but I still get nervous when she jumps off of the couch. Sometimes she likes to charge before jumping on the couch and she doesn't always make it and will slam face first into the bottom of it. I just said to my bf recently that I hope she doesn't get a concussion doing that. And to read that someone's baby died of a concussion just really freaked me out. :( |
Okay, I have one to share too. Thanks God nothing bad happen to Chloe, but it sure did scare me!!! (My fault though!) So, normally, I go inside my house through my garage door. So, the other day, I decided to surprise Chloe and came inside the house through the main house door. I didn't open the garage door since I didn't want to alarm her that mommy is home. Chloe can tell I am home with the garage door open noise. So, before I walked in the house through my main house door, I parked my car temporaily on the drive way. So, I opened the main house door and gave Chloe a surprise. She was excited to see me of coz and I liked to "surprise" her in my own unique special way. So, after giving her kisses and huges, I went out through my garage door and to drive my car back into the gargae and park. Guess what? Thanks God I was only driving forward and not backing up. After I parked my car, I found out Chloe was right behind the car!! I was like..how in the world she got out of the house?? I remember I shut the door that go to the garage? So, found out bcoz I was too excited, I forgot to close the main house door and she got out from there!!!! I was so scared!! I picked her up and keep apologize to my baby..that her silly mommy might have hit her with the car!!! After that "accident", I decided no more surprise Chloe when I get home....Yorkie is just so smart! I didn't think she will go out from a different door! |
Okay I don't know if this is considered a freak accident but it was really gross. Cuddles gets the run of the house but I make sure that there isn't anything bad on the floor she can chew. Yesterday when I was feeding her it seemed like something was lodged in her throat. So I watched her the whole night. I left to do something and then when I came back she spit out a huge cricket and she tried eating it again and when I saw it I noticed it was still moving and then later on I found a couple legs laying around. I made sure I vaccuumed that night just in case she happened to find a cricket leg. |
Chip jumped out of a cart at PetSmart today and fell on his head. Thankfully he's okay, but he has a little knot on the top of his head. |
What tragic freak accidents. Like someone said it is hard to read them but also a learning experience. Pepper is what you would consider tiny. He has not learned to jump on the couch or off of it. If I am on the couch I will put him up there. He only gets in my bed if he is ready to sleep, as soon as he starts wandering around the bed I will put him in his xpen, so he doesn't fall or try to jump off my bed. I took him to petco today and when he is standing on his hind legs in the cart he can barely see over the top of the cart, no fear of him jumping out of there. Pepper is almost 7 months old and probably weighs about 3.5 lbs. |
