I am writing in regards to my friend's Yorkie. They just got him and he is having an issue with protectiveness. Every time he is with a certain family member in the house, he will start barking and get really upset if anyone comes near the person he is with. Does anyone have some advice in correctly handling this situation?? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

When he starts to get aggressive/barking, hold his muzzle closed gently and say NO strongly and remove him from the person he is protective of. Place in a crate or time out area. Do this every time he does this it should not take him long to understand that this behavior is not tolerated. Good luck.

How old is he? Is he neutered? Mine is doing the same thing he is 5 1/2 months old. But it is mainly when i am the one holding him. Seems like little noises and certain movements set him off.

Just want to say thank you for your responses. I am passing them onto my friend. To answer the one response. . .he is not neutered, and I believe he is about 7 years old. Thanks again! =)
