I didnt want a yorkie i wanted a little chi to carry around an spoil, my partner has a golden lab and i wanted a little dog to walk along side him. I had been looking around for about a year for the right chi but could not find one that was near me or the right price. I had never thought about gettin a little yorkie till i seen a picture of one as i was lookin for a chi and fell in love ''I had to have one of them as my little baby'' i thought. When i took some time off work to help my grandmother i thought now is the right time as i had time to train and look after the puppy so he/she wont b at home alone. I had seen one advitised in the paper that week and phoned them up they had 2 little boys left, i had my heart set on a girl as we have never had male dogs, but when i went to see them that day i just didnt want to put him down. He was little a little bundle of fluff and the moment i seen him i just fell in love. My partner was askin me if this was the little puppy i wanted and my answer was '' am not putting him back'' LOL we took him home the same day and have never looked back. The joy he has brought to my life words can not explain. |
Great thread! When I graduated college, I got baby fever BAD! But I'm in no position to have a skin baby (at least not until I meet a skin daddy  LOL!) So I decided I needed a pet to focus all that energy into. I knew I needed a small indoor pet so I started researching. Thats when I found yorkies and fell in LOVE. I bought the book Yorkshire Terriers for Dummies and read it in about 2 hours. I was convinced yorkies were for me. I found YT loved the stories about everyone's babies and within I think a week I found a lady with 2 little boys for sale 5 minutes from my house. When I saw Jamie, he was just the tiniest little fluff ball and he was tearing around the breeders living room doing zoomies and I knew he was mine! At the time I never would have imagined how much his personality would reflect mine. He truly is my BABY! And I can't wait to find him the perfect little sister. |
Back before we knew anything about puppy mills, Megan wanted a puppy for her birthday so we went to a pet store, not having any particular breed in mind. (We could have written the book on how to be really stupid about getting a puppy) I was looking at a cute little cocker spaniel when my husband says "I want this one" and I turned around and he was holding Bandit, a 1 lb yorkie. I was like "no way. I don't want a little thing like that."(I thought he looked like a rat) So, he handed him to me. Bandit put his two paws on my chest and gave me a kiss on my chin. that was it...he stole my heart! And I never looked back...after he died there was no question our next one was going to be a yorkie. Enter Tucker, my "3rd child". |
This is fun to read! I had cats and parrots and always wanted a dog, but the timing just wasn't quite right. My parrots took a lot of time and attention and my dh told me that until I "got rid" of the parrots  ( AS IF....I'd had them 20 yrs and 18 respectively)....I couldn't get a dog. One of my parrots was really sick and I knew I was probably going to lose her and while I was going thru the agony and stress of trying to keep her alive, my neighbor told me she thought I needed something to take my mind off her and that she had some breeders bringing some Yorkies by. I said "Oh, I don't want a yappy little dog":p and she said "Well, they're not any more yappy than these guys (her 3 Maltese)....so I sort of just avoided the subject. The day came when the breeders were going to be there, and I was "conveniently" at the gym all afternoon and came home, thinking I was "saved" from having to go next door and make excuses about a dog I didn't want. BUT...... as I drove up to our house, my neighbor's best friend was just leaving and saw me and walked over to me and told me "OH, you HAVE to go see those puppies, they're precious". So, I was sort of stuck.....I went over and the second I saw Max, I was in love:D. I knew my dh wasn't going to let me spend that much on a dog, but I decided to take him next door to just show him how cute they were....I reminded him that he said I could have a dog if I got rid of the birds (well, one was dying and the other one I had staying next door part time), and it was almost my birthday.....so he said YES!!! I couldn't believe it. He was sort of shocked at the price, but now he always says "it's the best money I've ever spent:love::). I had no clue how incredibly smart and cute and loving Yorkies were; now I can't imagine having any other breed. Even though I love all dogs....Yorkies are my favorite. |
1 Attachment(s) It started with my sister, we had a pekingnese growing up. Needless to say it shed ALOT! He eventually passed from old age (16 y/o), and by that time she was living in NY alone so she wanted a companion pet. She researched dogs that didn't shed, and found yorkies. We didn't know about puppy mills at that time (1992), so she bought Zippy from a pet store in Manhattan. As time went by and Zippy got a bit older, she was planning ahead for a "replacement" so to speak and looked into adoption. That's when she found Chip from Petfinder.com, Chip lived with her for a while and got fat. I could see he was a very intelligent dog and would benefit from training, so I offered to take care of him while taking him to training classes here in PA. Chip seemed to LOVE it here, so I offered him a permanent home and she agreed. Mind you before Chip came along I swore to myself I was NEVER going to get a dog, I was totally planning on more cats. A few months go by, Chip is adjusting well to living here, has friends at the park, and truly enjoys the company of other yorkies. That's when I knew he could benefit with having a sibling. I started looking at rescue/adoption since I wanted a yorkie similiar in age, and size for him. I applied for numerous dogs, but never recieved a response. Then one day on YT someone posted a teapot in MI, he sounded perfect so off he went on a plane to PA! Chip adjusted right away to his new brother Harley, and I couldn't be happier:) So I went from not wanting to have anything to do with dogs, and end up having TWO! :D (My cat is not thrilled...) |
We had a yorkie when I was a little girl, and she was the sweetest, cutest little thing. I always knew I wanted a yorkie again someday. |

My family has always had Yorkies! My parents got their first in the late 70's from a pet store. He was awesome. Very tolerant of being picked on by small children! I don't remember this, but apparently one time I had him by his rear legs and I was pulling, my dad comes in and asks what the heak I'm doing, I told him I was making a wish! :O A few years after the first passed, we got 2. The oldest just passed last year, he was almost 16. Mogli was the first that was just mine. My dad also got another one a few years ago ... Next weekend we pick up a new addition to my family. |
Years ago an aunt of mine had some Yorkies. They were fun to play with. Then I girl I used to date had a Yorkie and that dog was awesome. Everytime I would come around she would stay on my lap and not go back to the girl I was dating lap. Was very funny! I moved into a new apartment and knew I wanted to get a dog. I have always had large breed dogs. My last dog was a St. Bernard. I decided I wanted a small dog and when I found Jake I bought him that day. I have never been happier with any dog I have ever owned than I have with Jake. I will be picking up his new girlfriend this afternoon! So my Yorkie craze started November 7th, 2007 and is ongoing! |
OK I'm really going to date myself....I fell in love with the Yorkie from the back of a Spiegel catalog. For those of you in my age bracket..lol...in the back of the Spiegel catalog there used to be a page of dog pictures and actually could order a doggie from them!! Can you imagine that one?? I was only a little girl and fell in love with the Yorkie from that one picture. But my mom would not let me have a dog. Her big line was...Cyndi...when you grow up and get married you can have all the dogs you want. Hahaha...ok ....years go by....I grow up....get married and in 1977 3 months after I got married I got my first Yorkie since I never forgot that breed and how cute they were. Then a few months later I got my second and my first baby only lived to be about 8 - he got really sick with a rare kidney stone and my second baby lived to be 14. I was so sad that I couldn't think of getting a dog. So no doggie for 15 years!!:eek::eek: Then last year Izzy came into my life and here I go again with all the love and fun. Boy I'll say one thing it's sure different having a dog these days vs. 16 years ago that's for sure. Back then there was no internet to help you out and I couldn't believe how much vet bills went up in 16 years.:eek::eek: |
My hubby's ex has a yorkie and when she had her litter of pups of course we just had to go over to see them because their boys wanted us to go over. She thought that it would be good for his kids to have a pup at our place..lol That didn't bother me in the least because I wanted a puppy for a long time and this just happened to work out in MY favour...;) Cause now I have the cutest furbaby on our block ;) (Good job we are friends..lol ) :D:D |
Well let's see, it a long story but to make it short. i have a 11 yr old grand daughter(my daughters child) that has lived with us since she was 3mos old. she is spoiled beyond belief and everything she has ever wanted she has gotten, she begged for a yorkie for 6 months and i said no way. i did not want a animal in my house no way. my son who grew up with my gd told us that his gf was expecting a baby and morgan my gd flipped out, she was so jealous and so mad, because she had been the baby for so long. i felt really bad for her so i thought to my self if she had something to help look after she maybe would get over the news. sooo in nov we bought sassy for her, of course everyone fell in love with sassy. as time got near for the new baby, morgan was settling down about a new baby. on 1-25-08 my new grandson was born and morgan got to hold him in the delivery room and her heart broke for such a beautiful bouncing baby. morgan has to see the baby everyday. so we tease that we have 2 new babies in our household that are also very spoiled. sassy even has to check on the baby when he cries to make sure he is ok. |
1 Attachment(s) Having grown up with a German Shepard...i knew nothing of Yorkies...but after marriage and 3 children i wanted to give my kids a pet, but then, with having to actually FEED my 3 children (lol) we had no money to buy an expensive pet.....so alot of years, pets of all sizes later....kids are grown and out I finally decided it was time to get the pet i had wanted for many years....Along came Oliver! He stole my heart and my husbands by the way. Having still 2 Beagles and a rat terrior he really did not want any more pets. Oliver is such a love...so smart...so well behaved. After a year and a half with him I knew it was time for me to get my little girl....Then came Brooklyn....she is such fun! So much energy! Oliver and Brooklyn are best buds....it turns out they have the same mom (different dads) So it was kind of neat for us to get her. My husband, needless to say, DEFINATELY did not want yet another dog, but he wanted me to be happy, so he gave in. You should see him with her....she is a daddys girl if ever there was one! He comes home from work and the first thing on the agenda is a face full of puppy kisses! We couldnt be happier with our choices!!!! This indeed is a fun thread! Thankyou! |
I remember as a child living in my country of origin, there was this celebrity and she owned a cute little yorkie. I always liked it and I said, some day, I'll have one of those little furballs :) . Fifiteen years later, my dream came true :D |
