I tried Advantage. It didn't work.The Frontline Plus has been great for Stomper. I'm not going to worry myself to death about this or I'll have a flea bag!

This from their website: "Gentle enough to use on puppies and kittens 8 weeks of age or older without weight restrictions"

I think we would have heard about a lot of dead dogs if we couldn't use them on our yorkies.

My vet has me using "Frontline Plus for cats" on Saffie & her 2 "feline siblings". Haven't had any problems so far & it really seems to be working well killing the fleas & ticks.(Havne't seen any fleas or ticks on the critters, but have found a few dead ticks in Saffie's crate.)

I saw this information listed on numerous websites, including vet sites. I guess it was old information. I even thought the box said for the use of animals that are 11-22 pounds. http://www.vetamerica.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=321
I'm all for learning about the risks involved and sharing. Oh, well. I just thought it would be safer to use the Frontline Top Spot since it was approved for the smaller dogs and the only the only difference is that the Plus kills the eggs. Both products kill ticks. Like I said, I guess I had old information. I was just trying to help out. I used Advantage, but I found out it can be washed off, so I'm shopping around. I'll just use the Frontline Topspot. For the person that said something about a lot of dead dogs....well, I don't trust medicine companies nor do I trust everything a vet makes a buck on. Also, I wouldn't want a sick Yorkie down the road with neurological problems. I was just trying to help out. Vets prescribe steriods like they are going out of style. Steriods can bad news if not used correctly. Sorry, if I sound so grumpy, but there are a lot of people that are just plain rude. If you use it then that's your business, but don't knock me for giving out information that I have found. I'm not lying or making it up. I'm just passing something along that I thought could be useful.

I haven't even seen them sell Plus for dogs under 11 pounds. They don't list it on the fronline site. but maybe I am blind

I believe the smallest
doseage they sell is for 11-22 pounds.

I purchased the frontline plus at a vets office and used it on my Yorkie had no problems at all, it was up to 22 lbs. I'm not sure what all of the hype is about this frontline plus. I did not purchase it from my regular vet. Most places that I have seen frontline at does not have the plus for the smaller dogs under 11lbs. I don't think that they have it there. The last that I bought was just regular frontline.

You are right, that is the smallest doseage they sell. Frontline top spot has a smaller doseage for smaller dogs.

I'm not sure it's safe for any dog. About 5 yrs ago a neighbor of mine got an adult
Pek and bought Fronline online . Terrible reaction on a Sunday and finally found one
vet. The vet said the company didn't have a 800 # for an antidote. Wish I could
remember what type of shot he gave her but she lived but was sick for another
week. I guess lots use it with no problem but when it comes to these toy breeds
you do have to question everything.

It gives my mothers little shizapoo (sp) seizures. He's about 8lbs, and it's really upsetting to see. She quit giving it to him and he's been fine.

I didn't want to take any chances, so I started Dublin with Revolution. Hopefully all will be well with that...

Funny this should come up, I bought Frontline plus on Saturday for Pippa. We usually use the Frontline spray, but it makes her coat so nappy, I wanted the stuff that just goes between their shoulder blades. I plunked down my $30.00, then got home and noticed the box said "11-22 pounds". I immediately called the vet's office, the receptionist gave my call to the vet. He said that Frontline plus' box labeling does say that poundage, but it's the lowest strength they make. He said he felt it was safe, and uses it on his small dogs. He said he had only seen one allergic reaction to it, but you run the risk of allergic reaction to anything, basically. He recommended that if I was uncomfortable with it to try advantix. I used the frontline, and so far, so good. And the fleas are long gone.....Pippa's fine-so i don't know-just about everything is use at your own risk!

I have a 7 lb and a 3 lb yorkie and both are on Frontline Plus. Lacey, the smaller one was on Advantage when I bought her at 12 weeks. I questioned my vet about it because I was curious why one breeder or vet recommended one over another and my vet felt Frontline Plus was the better choice. I have had no problems with either dog but did find a few fleas on Lacey when I bought her. So, I support FP but will call my vet about using half a dose per dog or if there is an issue because of weight. There is always a chance of reactions, for us as well as our pets. However, with the sandy soil and balmy climate of Fl, I would have to make my dogs outside pets because of flea problems, so I have to do something. I have been very pleased with the ease of care of my two after not having a pet for many years but appreciate any suggestions that I need to follow up on. My only other thought is why a vet would not be perfectly up front about flea meds. I can buy FP from a local petstore, or online, so a vet doesn't really have a financial incentive for recommendation or am I wrong?

I use frontline but my vet separates one normal dose into 4 separate doses. I notice Brody often has a tick or a flea on him towards the end of the month, right before we are supposed to put the medicine on him again. However, its not serious enough for us to up the dosage.

I too have used it for years. We are in the deep south and I couldn't image life without it--not to mention what fleas and ticks do to the dogs. My vet sells me the larger doses(for dogs 60lbs and up) and we have figured out each dose for each dog by their weight. I pull the solution out of the package with a needle inject that into a syringe for each dogs weight requirements and this saves me a ton of money. With this it only cost $4 dollars for my yorkies a month to be treated and with that small of expense-who wouldn't.
