| ![]() Meily is over 2 years old, and I'm not sure what to do... it's driving me nuts. She's gotten a lot better at telling us when she needs to go out, although sometimes she'll just opt for the peepad (which, in the middle of the night, is fine with me). But if there is a rug or carpet, even if there is a pee pad RIGHT NEXT TO IT, she'll go ahead and pee on the rug. We're visiting friends right now and they have rugs in practically every room - and Meily is finding them, even with 2 peepads and 3 humans ready to let her out whenever she wants. I just don't know what to do. I'm also about to move... into a place with some carpet (which I will have to get rid of). I'm trying to wean her off peepads, only putting them down when I'm not home, but if there are carpets, she's just going to pee on those. What can I do? Why does she keep doing this?? She KNOWS when she's in trouble and that she shouldn't do it. Grrrrrrrrr.... help! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() Have you tried washable peepads? When I started using them, Joey stopped using the carpet.

| ![]() I have two words for you: RUG DOCTOR I swear this is the most effective product. We rent it from Home Depot a few times a year and it gets EVERYTHING out. It's like $20 to rent it plus the cost of cleaners. ~ Kelly

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() Oh heck yes! I just assumed you were using an enzyme cleaner. That's absolutely necessary. Otherwise, they will return to the same spot.

| ![]() I'll try all those... but what about in other people's houses (as we are now?). I forgot to bring the spray (which I bought, but we took up all the rugs so never used it). We have one more day, but I don't know what to do for the next time she goes to someone's house where there is carpet. I 'll go get one of those washable ones. I'd been considering that for environmental factors as well, but haven't found one yet. I thought Petco had them but they didn't last time I checked. But I will check again. :-D |

| ![]() To be honest, I am not sure she could be trusted at other peoples homes with carpet. Mine are 3 yo - they are pee pad trained. I have liter boxes that I put the pee pad inside of. This way they have to step into the box to use it and not mistake it for the carpet. We only have throw rugs and they have all been marked from when they were babies, so I don't worry about them peeing on them anymore. Roxy still does have marking habits though. She has to mark the 'smaller throw rugs' after they have been washed. I am not sure that I can break her of this habit. Also, after 3 yo - mine are still UNTRUSTABLE in other peoples homes. Not that they would have a full fledged pee - but with Roxy and her marking, she sure would have no problems doing that. If I put pee pads down they will use them at other ppls houses. The problem you have may be that she isn't really potty trained fully outside and she really isn't potty trained fully inside. She really may be confused ![]() |

| ![]() Get some cute diapers for her. When we went to visit the in-laws I bought her lots of cute diapers and put panty liners in just in case. That way I was insured she would not soil their carpeting and she looked so cute. I took her out every couple of hours and she never did mess. It takes a while to get them use to it being wrapped around their bum but the peace of mind is worth the training. I love the diapers and now can always have 100% trust in her...Your friends and family will enjoy her visits more too. Good Luck!

| ![]() hehe, diapers. :-) i got a big litter box too, we're working on that (because she walks around when she poops) too. I'd like to be able to just take her out every 2 hours, but I work, and when we're away from home we have to leave her alone for several hours each day as well. we've been closing her in a room with no carpets when we leave and we haven't had any mistakes since the first day, after we rolled up some rugs. |
