| ![]() Oliver is nearing five months now and he's been doing quite well with his training over the past couple days, he's only had one accident. I'm very proud! Anyway, when I let him out (on a pretty consistent schedule) he'll pee immediately, but he'll still go in the house if he has to go. Just keeping him on a schedule doesn't seem to be enough. We have two other dogs, a pekingese and a medium sized female (not sure of her breed) and they'll bark or rattle the beads hanging from the door when they need to go out, and I was hoping Oliver would do that as well but it doesn't look like he's going to. So, do you have any tips to help us get him to tell us when he has to go? Other than bell training- if he won't even go by the door, I don't think he'll go for that. |

| ![]() This is just my opinion but I think he will "get it" in a little more time. I used to watch for Murfee's signals that he was getting ready to pee and yank him up and take him outside...and praise and praise. Now he comes and gets me and I either just get "the look" or if he really has to go bad, I get the bark. Good luck

| ![]() I'm sure he'll figure it out in time. Bella goes to the sliding glass door and scratches at it to get our attention and if I'm not paying attention and don't notice her doing that she'll give me a little quiet bark. They're pretty smart, they'll figure out a way to tell you what they want.

| ![]() I pad trained Jake and Jackson since they were both babies during their first winter months, and it gets very cold here with lots of snow. But, in the warmer months, we spend lots of time playing outside. So, they are trained for both. They will let me know by coming up to me to get my attention, then they go to the door. If I am in the kitchen, they will go to the kitchen door and sit and wait for me to take them out. ![]() I used to have a neighbor who had a small terrier mix. They had bells hanging on their door for her to ring. Alot of people find those to be really helpful.

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() When Jeter was first starting to train, he would walk in circles sniffing for a spot, so I would take him outside fast. We used a command " Go potty" too when we took him outside. Also I still would take him outside after he played or when he first woke up and also after he ate, but I knew if he walked in a circle he had to go. Now that he is potty trained he will walk up to us and just give me a look, if I am not paying attention, then he gives us a bark and goes to the door. It sounds like your doing a good job with him, and also your little guy sounds like he is catching on and will be potty trained in time.

| ![]() With KaCee, I have to watch her and if I *think* she may need to go I get her outside as quickly as possible. I've noticed that she starts to sniff the ground if she needs to pee and she'll pace when she needs to poop. A.J runs to the door and back to me until he gets my attention. If that doesn't work, he barks at me!

| ![]() I heard to bell train them you should always ring the bell yourself when you take him outside so he'll associate the sound with going outside. Also you have to be very consistent, if he rings the bell he goes outside period. My dogs will usually start sniffing the ground and will turn in circles (I call it the puppy pee pee dance) when they have to go.

When he gives clues, do you say "outside?" (or something like that) and then take him out? That's how I first trained mine for outside.

| ![]() Mine just starts pacing and going back and forth between me and the door. Although he did have an accident not too long ago and it mystified me. |
