should we cut the top knot???? who here does not keep their babies hair long enough for a top knot??? Maggies hair is driving me completely crazy and I have thought a hundred times about cutting it off. She is in a very short puppy cut right now, but still has the long top knot. I just don't know what to do. I want to grow her hair back out...but right now, with the rest of it being so short and her having a long top knot that she will NOT keep in....I'm tempted. do any of you have pictures????? |
1 Attachment(s) I keep Chelsey long but our little one Kayla chewed the rubber band and hair right off one day. So Chelsey has the long hair with no top knot. I'm going to grow it back but she looks cute without it. |
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO don't do it!! Put the scissors down and back away!!! ;) |

i didn't have them out...just thinking about it :) i wish you could see her tho..she looks terrible |
I keep mine short... 1 Attachment(s) Abby has nvr had a top not because I personally dont like it and she nvr keeps it on long enough to even be seen with it... LOL. I always keeop her hair very short.. not shaved but trimmed all around. Below is a pic of how she looked in December... Ill post them up later so you can see better how I keep her hair short all around... |
3 Attachment(s) Autumn does not have a top knot (even though I would like her to) I tried in the beginning but she would rub her head on the floor until she was able to get out whatever was in her head. I was to worried that she would eat the pony (because she has tried) and it just was not worth the headache, heartache and vet bill had that happened. I still think she looks cute anyway! I just wish she wasn't such a tomboy! |
DEB said " DO NOT CUT IT!!!!!!!!!! Leave it grow" If you want to see a short one go to her new babies thread! |
Jewels has long hair but the topknot is short. I just had this done when she recently went to the groomers. I didnt put her hair up n a topknot every day and hated looking at her hair in her face. I like being able to see her eyes and plan to keep it cut |

Awww but Mandee she's so cute when she's messy! Even though Jamie's a boy, when I tried to cut his hair and keep it shorter without the "topknot" his hair was constantly flopped over in his face. He looked like one of those EMO kids with bangs that cover their eyes. So now he has this short little spikey ponytail. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/att...0&d=1204126157 I think if you cut it, it may drive you MORE crazy than it already does. |

and I think you are right. I am sure I would regret cutting it. her hair does fall forward instead of back so it would probably not be any better if I cut it. |
1 Attachment(s) Andy with his knot top he has almost knocked out and a short body hair cut that he is growing out. |
2 Attachment(s) Neither of my boys have top knots.. they have eyebrows! I think its adorable looking also! |
Mandee just a thought.. look at the Boys.. Alot have no top knot but most of the Girls do. I think you would really regret it. Maybe get some top knot Gel. or not make the top knot to tight.. they tend to mess with them more if it is really tight. |
Whenever I have Britney and Brooklyn groomed, I have them remove the top knot. It's so much easier and, IMO, better for them. I feel so bad for Yorkies (and other top-knot breeds) who have so much hair in their eyes that it effects their vision. |

I forgot to mention- you can see Britney and Brooklyn in my avatar. |
I have been trying to comb and redo Bizzy and Jersey's top knots every day. But I seem to be combing out more and more hair! They are finally at an age that they leave the top knots in, but now they are losing hair. Yikes, no perfect solution. |
I have your solution! 1 Attachment(s) I keep my Melody in a way that she can keep her topknot, but alo leave it short in front so that when she has no bow in, it stays out of her eyes! It is called 1/2 & 1/2. There are "bangs" in front and long hair on top of her head. Here is a picture of it. I am not sure if it will come through here or not. It will allow you to keep her topknot it you ever want to put a bow in, or leave the bow out and the hair will just naturally go off to the sides without it looking like a mess. It is hard to describe here. I also have a\different style of topknot that will stay in all day and not come apart. I have a unique yorkie grooming DVD that shows you my techniques. It is available through my website. :animal-pa Sue & Cricket |
Adie is really good about keeping her top knot in but she hates having her hair brushed or combed. I decided to cut hers off and regretted it immediately. She is really cute without it but not as pretty as she is with it. (See my avatar.) Don't cut the top knot off! |
I just love topknots, on boy or girls. I had a hard time keeping Joey in a topknot until I read this link. It describes how you use several bands, the first band is lower, keeping hair out of eyes and the second band pulls hair from further back. The bow even stays in when I use this technique. http://www.thedivadogbowtique.com/howto.php |
when lacey was so ill and none of us thought she would make it i cut like 3 inches off hers and i wish ithat i wouldnt have done it. i miss seeing her hair that long on top. |
1 Attachment(s) Well, you know Bengi :) If someday I get a girl I would probably try the topknot, I think there are so cute bows out there that I wish I coudl buy some... as well as the dresses and all that cute girly stuff... But I don't know the work involved in keeping the topknot, the bangs are easy and I think they give more attitude :D |
Don't do it! It makes them Yorkie-ish! All mine have the topknot, i just cut Teddy's hair but his face is still long and he has his looong topknot, i can even braid it, it's too funny. Ppl always thinks he's a girl but i tell him he is metrosexual.:p |

Love your new photos of Blaze and Autumn and of course, you and your children! Haven't been on to much. My Dad is in the hospital. We have been there night and day for three weeks. It's nice to enjoy a little Yorkie talk when I come home. My sister is there tonight. We have our shifts all day. Regards from your friends, Marilyn and Remi |
Gracie and Hallee can not stand bows or anything in their hair. We keep their top knot shorter, but not real short and seems to work okay. When we used to keep it longer they would always get lots of tangles in it. |
No top knot for Bailey! 3 Attachment(s) She hates them and I'm okay with that! :) |
