| Ear infections? Bentley had been scratching the back of his ears for a while. At first I thought maybe dry skin. Then maybe the "butterfly" hair on the inside of his ears were just getting to him. Now the past day they smell bad. He has been scrating them A LOT!!! The inside is all pink now. My mother in laws dog had the smell then liquidy stuff started to come out. My question is.... Any of this happen to your yorkie? Any advise as to what to do? |

| It is probably either an infection, a yeast infection or mites. Ellie has had a yeast infection and she is sort of prone to them now. If they smell and he is making them red, he needs to see a vet.

| ear problem My older yorkie Princess has been doing the scratching in her ear, its all inflamed and compared to the other one is extremly bruised and all the inside is swollen and bits have gone slightly crusty!!!which tells me its been weeping. Going to take her to the vets. When she scratches she makes a whimpering sound too. Is this an Ear infection? the swelling is really severe and you cant see into her ear fully like you can with the other one. Do you think she has an infection? Cant get to the vets until Saturday morning surgery!!!!!

Anytime I hear crusty, I think mites (sarcoptic). It is probably just an infection though. Does she have a blister that you can see? I am wondering if it is a hematoma.

| ear problem its really swollen and hot and to the point where its expanded so much inside. On the top of her scalp over her ear there is bruising and its all flaking terrible. I wondered if it was more serious than just an ear infection, its really purple and black inside. Im so worried about her.

It really doesn't sound like it should wait even another day.

| It might be Mange or Ear Mites. My Yorkie was acting the same thing without the bad smell. I only bring her to the vet when I saw blood on her ears. She is scratching terribly agitated. The vet scrape the skin ang put in under the microscope and found mange mites. Hopefully you can find a vet who is open on weekends so your worry will be lessen. |

If they break their skin open scratching, infection could (not always) happen. Also, if the ear is that irritated I would be concerned about a blood blister forming and the treatments for that is often surgery. Hopefully none of that happens though and it is a simple fix.
