Bunny Killer This is so sad! Yesterday, we heard loud squealing coming from the back yard, I looked out the window and my sweet little Bailey had caught a baby bunny. I don't think she was trying to kill it, but she was shaking it and throwing it up in the air like she does her stuffed toys. By the time we got it away from her, the poor bunny was past saving. :( Has this ever happened with your dogs? I know the Yorkie was bred to be a hunter, but I can't believe she did this! |
Sorry.........I had to chuckle when I first started reading your post. I could so see your little furbutt running and tossing the bunny in the air as if it was a stuffed toy. He did not know any better. He was probably even more excited because his new furry toy moved! Autumn has only killed a bird but my great dane use to catch bunnies ALL THE TIME! It got so bad that hubby and I use to open the back door first and make a loud squeal before we would let him out! |

LOL. Me too. I'm just imagining it right now. It is sad though. |
Lucy hasn't yet "gotten a hold" of anything but it isn't because she hasn't tried. I hope she never does because I know it would upset me to see her kills something :( |
One of mine killed a frog... in 2 seconds flat! I was a little disturbed that my sweet cuddly baby could kill something! I'll tell ya though, the ballsy chipmunk that runs across my patio all summer is going to get caught one day and he will NOT happy when he does! :) :) |
Really reminds you that our Babies can be wolves in lamb's clothing! The heart of a terrier beats in those furry little bodies:aimeeyork |
Did something traumatic happen to him on Easter? No jelly beans? |
LOL!!!!! oh the poor poor Easter Bunny!!!! |
you probably have a nest close around!! You have more around...... the multiply like.... ug... rabbits!:D |
1 Attachment(s) Bonnie has never shown an interest in the bunny nests around our house. Even when her kitty sister brings them and leaves them on the porch, B will just sniff it and keep going. But we do have a close YT friend whose yorkie is an avid rabbit hunter. Here he is proudly showing off his catch. :bunny: :( Poor baby bunny wabbit :( |

Dejavu' He was so proud. |
My daughter has bunnies living in her back yard in a hole in the middle of the lawn. Last summer Buddy was going nuts and I went over to see what he saw. The grass was moving around and under it in a hole was a nest of baby bunnies. He no longer is allowed in the yard. The mother just lives there yearly so I can't use the yard any longer! They are only doing what comes naturall to them. Poor bunny. |

i read the story and thought of a clueless little puppy playing with his 'toy' and it was cute.. but then if that really happened to me i'd be horrified.. and i wouldn't know what to do.. but i thought yorkshire terriers were naturally bred to catch rats so that wouldn't be uncommon no? or maybe i'm wrong???? |

And there is NO distracting him when he's on the trail or got one.. Believe me I've tried. I experience it about 3 times a year.. Bunny seasons.. and I have it pegged as to about how many to expect in a litter. He is not the catcher.. my cat is.. he brings them home..just pawing and playing and then Bailey goes out ..and SNATCHES it before I know what hit me it's .. over. Until the next batch.. cause ya know,, they breed like... you know. |

Yorkshire Terriers are thought to have originated in Scotland, and taken to Yorkshire by weavers. They were used to keep babies safe, one at the top of a cot, another at the bottom. These little babies are know as "Ratters", and are working dogs. They are also used to catch rabbits. I did a little research, before choosing our little furbaby. Max does show these traits, he shakes all his teddies by the throat. |

Never a bunny...just June Bugs...BLAH! |
Max is trying to catch my pond fish, he's very jealous of his mummy speaking to them. I'm not getting him a squeaky fish LOL. |

We have June Bugs too, good thing they can fly. Too bad the crickets aren't as fast. ;) |
Teddy and London won't hurt a fly, i know that for sure! But Sophie, she has tried to eat my birds when i had them. When i used to take them out for a bit and i put her close to let her sniff them, to get her used to them she would snap at them but i never let her get too close thankfully. She looked like she wanted to eat them so i think she does have that hunting instinct in her. She was very sweet to the bunny i had tho, all 3 of them were. They thought it was another dog. |
