For My Coby 03-25-2008 08:37 PM

Poor Baby!!

Coby can get stingy with his kisses if he's feeling a bit "dissed" but that's not too often.

But Coby loves his kennel no matter when he has to go in. But I think that might be because we spent a great deal of training on going in the crate when we first got him. That got nearly as much "hoopla" and treats as pottying on the paper - because we knew there'd be times he'd be crated, and sometimes crated in a hurry. (In the morning, if we put our coats on - or if I just put my lipgloss on in the kitchen, he runs into his kennel and waits for his treat.) Hopefully, with some separation anxiety work and maybe some extra special crate treats, she'll not mind so much. :(

I only crate Furgie when we go somewhere that she can not go and sometimes at night if she is sick or stinky, so a few time a week she may be created for some reason or other....but when we get back she's all shaking, lowering her head and pulls away from me when I go to get her out. I'm confused...It's as if she is mad and she don't want me to touch her...yet she does, She will do this in the mornings when I crate her over night too What is this? :(

Do any of you go through this and how do I help her with it...it is just gonna aways happen...you know...LIFE!

I love her name that is so cute! Can I ask how old she is? Yes they can get mad at U. U should see my Teddy when I do something he don't like, he pouts, rubs his pony out, goes and paws at my rugs. Sage tears puppy pads up when she is mad at me. They are very smart, don't ever ever underestimate them! She is just getting use to the process, if U've never put her in one then she has to adjust to it. She will get use to it. Do U have toys in there for her? What about blankies? Make it like her own little home. Do U have food and water where she can get to it all the time? Trust me if U do it the right way she will come to love it and even go sleep in it when U're home, even if U have other beds out throughout U're home, Mine go in theirs to sleep even with beds out in our living room and Yorkies room or if something scares her she'll run it her little crate. There is NOTHING wrong with crating babies when need be. And no she won't do this all the time.

"i think a kinder solution would be to fence off a room where the dog can have room to move all day. people who leave their dogs in crates all day will have neurotic dogs and wonder why

think of what is best for your pet.. not yourself

there has got to be another answer for these poor caged dogs.. "

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with U on this one, and I'm not trying to start any fusses here but just my own personal thoughts on this matter. Fencing off a room might be a kinder solution in somes eyes but I've done that fenced off my kitchen for my Yorkies, my kitchen chairs we're ate all to pieces, baseboards, pee in the floor. Fenced off my living room and same thing happened U should see my coffee table, not counting baseboards, chewed holes in my carpet when we had carpet in the living room. Ate my sewing machine cord up, ate a fan cord up all the way through while it was plugged in and running mind U while I was gone to the store. (Thank Tiffanie for that one). When Yorkies are puppies and no one is there to watch them they will chew/eat whatever they can get their teeth on. I've tried all the sprays out there and all the hot sauces on the market. I feel if U can't be there to watch them or put them in a room without no baseboard and nothing to chew on that they may get hurt on then they should be crated or in playpens for their safety.

She didn't say she left her in her crate all day long, she said when she left & sometimes at night. There is nothing wrong with crating Yorkies if done the right way. I crate/playpen all 5 of mine when need be and they love it. There are just sometimes that people can't be there to watch them. U and them get a better nights sleep when they are crated. I do not have neurotic dogs, they don't pace or go around in circle at all, they are not scared or shaking when I let them out. Now if U do it wrong and never let them out then they could end up this way. Mine are not crated/playpen up all day long, just when need be. So I can't say crating is wrong if done the right way.

Banjo pouts!! :D Plain and simple!! Not all the time! He tries the poor little pitful me crap- then if that does not work - he give you that look- with fire in his eyes
he is MAD!:D
I think the cat taught him that!:D She has always done the same thing- she can get MAD over somethings!

But 90% of the time Banjo is sweet as he can be!!

When the diaper comes out her head goes down and her tail between her legs...and she hides under the bed. And with Maddie, kisses have to be HER idea. If you try to kiss her and make the kissy noises, she makes what i call the "brat face" and turns her head quickly with her chin up. She's so funny... ;) :D

OMG that sounds very much like Furgie...does your Maddie shake when mad too....cause that looks like fear but I am not sure cause she is so not scared of me. Infact she is either at my feet, lap or laying on a pillow beside me at the computer.

I think I have a Brat, she definitely likes it her way, even down to where she potties at! she is now refusing to potty onto the paper....but if she gets it by the paper I don't say a thing....just not on my furniture!!

I don't agree with this at all. Dogs are den animals and if properly trained don't mind a quiet enclosed area when you're away. I have 9 of them, plus puppies, and I crate them for THEIR safety. I feel most comfortable with them there, knowing that while I'm gone they'll have a safe place with a bed, food, water, and toys right there. Plus not everyone has an area of the house that isn't carpeted that they can fence off.

Many people crate their dogs upon the recommendation of experts in the field. I think it's a completely normal practice.

And none of my dogs have issues or are "neurotic" because they are crated for their safety while I'm gone...

No she doesn't usually shake. Furgie might be partly scared as well...maybe try one of the snuggle safe discs or puppy pals that you warm in the microwave. The snuggle safes are supposed to stay heated for 12 hours. It makes them feel more comforted. :)

There's other kinds of pet music like this but i just recently heard good things about this one. :-)

Well I am home or she is with me 99.9 % of the time. So leaving the TV on will suffice for a few hours.

But occasionally we do have to be apart..just life...I really hate hate leaving her this weekend but I have no chose. I am leaving her with my daughter and grand....who do not have any dogs....please pray everyone all goes well all the way around!!! it will be from Friday night till Sunday night.

Yes toys, blankie, food, water and wee pad...just in case. But she rarely uses the wee pad in there.

Well thanks God for crates huh!! and thanks for your response...I used the crate to keep her safe when I'm not around and when she was a puppy. Life happens...She will either learn to accept it or not...if not...well it will just always be hard on her.

Thanks all of you!!! for your replies!!!

You know I think U R right. I think I will start putting her in the crate daily while I am here, sitting here in front of the crate, it faces me and the PC. Just To help her adjust like it is her own little room.

If she is scared, it is cause she knows she is not going to see us for a long while not cause she is in trouble. But who knows what they think!!! Furgie is in my presents all day everyday!!! Even when I go to pick up GD at school...I think she is scared she wont be seeing us!! But when I get up in the mornings on the nights she had to sleep in her crate....I think she is mad...I really do....she wont kiss me, pulls away...it is miffed is what that is!! I think!

Usually dogs like to be in a 'den' environment. It is safer than having the chewing wires or wood furniture that could lead to shock or choking hazards.

Have you given your baby their favorite toy/blanket in the crate?

There are special homeopathic air fresheners that are supposed to be calming for the pets.

Akina 03-26-2008 03:23 PM

Momiji pout a lot. lol
But she forgive me quickly as well.
I leave a TV on for her all day as well and she got a nice big window to look out (except not much to look except next building...)

Buffalogirl 03-26-2008 05:27 PM

Pouting yorkie

I definitely think yorkies have attitudes. Freyja is always affectionate, but if I have to scold her, she won't sit down next to me. She will sit a little bit away and turn her head as if she is pouting.

TeddyandTiffy 03-27-2008 04:43 AM

This is attitude for U! LOL! I've had Sage out in our Yorkie Room day and night and she is doing good tears up puppy pads some, well she is in a Split Heat Cycle and I've had to crate her due to her drippin' so much and she won't keep undies on. I got up this morning to a clean crate (She has a puppy pad in there) let them all potty, put them all back in their crates so I could go get my girls up and ready for school, came back in to feed and she had pooed all in her crate and stepped all in it and smeared it everywhere. Now mind U she already pooed out in the Yorkie Room @ 7 and now it's 8 and she's done it again. I had to clean it all up and her before even feeding anyone, so I bet our other Yorkies was upset at her too! LOL! So that is part of our Yorkie Breed, they will somehow pay U back when they are mad at U! Some worse then others. I love her tho and I just clean it up and go on, I find if I fuss she does it to make me mad, so if I act all cool and calm then she stops. I honestly think she likes to get me upset. So I turn it around on her and she's like well that didn't work! LOL.

Tootsie does the same thing. She won't even look at me. It's kind of funny.
