I used to purchase items (blankets etc) from the Amish but after seeing the way they treat animals at the farmers market. I have boycotted buying anything from them ever again.

This is from an exhibit that was put together in July of 2007 to raise awareness of Puppy Mills in Pennsylvania.

As long as I live, I will NEVER understand how people can treat animals this way. How do you treat defenseless animals with such cruelty, they have no soul! It breaks my heart!

What gets me is that the Amish CLAIM to be Christians. NEWSFLASH!!! A CHRISTIAN would NOT do this to an animal.

For these babies they will never know love only pain and misery. I am so sorry if I have offended any of you but I just could not let this opportunity pass.

You have expressed yourself very well and I totally agree with you. I tend to get angry with this subject. Two and half years ago we adopted our little baby that was a mill dog, he's a yorkie and their my passion as well. Not everyday anymore, but sometimes he must have flash backs or something triggers memory and he still has mental anguish over how he had to try to survive. As long as I live I will never understand human beings and their torturing of animals just for the almighty dollar. I realize that for some seeing the puppies in the window and that need to "gotta have it now" is the decision many people make, but they need to think of the parents of these puppies before they buy. Not to mention all the health risks. We will adopt ex mill dogs again, because the rewards are astonishing. To finally get the kiss on the nose or to play with a toy for the first time. People need to be educated on this subject. My intent isn't to offend anyone either but to educate them on the horrors.

Back in 1986 my husband and I brought a horse from an Amish person in Tn. at a horse auction he was in the meat packers section, at the time we didn't know anything bout the Amish people and their animals, this horse just had that special look about him, anyway we bought him took him to the U.T. Vet school found out he was 4yrs old, 3 hundred lbs under weight, had sores on his neck from where they had wrap barwire around the reins to teach him to neck rein, this horse. man did he have issues 4 trainers told us to get rid of him he was accident waiting to happen. well now he is 28yrs old, he's great with little kids, he a dog in the pasture (follow you where ever you go and will come when we call his name) but do not put an adult male on his back or a smart ass teenager he will go nuts, but out of the 5 horses we have he the only one that I trust my life with. The only time I have come off of him, he stood right there sniff me, like he was saying he was sorry, it was a cow that moo that sent me on the ground, yep. he has cow Issues too.
There were times back in the early days that I thought about sending him down the road, but I knew where he would up back at the meat packers.
I just couldn't live with myself knowing that.

I have said this a thousand times..WE can make a difference but we have to get the laws changed so this is not legal. Everyone can write to their congressman or senator. People can financially support organizations that are fully geared to this type of abuse, such as:

Im disgusted SO is my husband as of right now im going to try and Educate ppl about this Horrid and Absoulte BS (exuse my launge But that is light compared to what i was thinkin) I kninda knew or thought i knew but havent had the guts to look tell just now im mad at myself now that i havent looked earlier I think we need to get some kind of a car sticker or shirt (furbabies and Humans) that says something like "ask me about animal abuse " or " please let me tall you about Puppy Mills " so many of us have ppl attracted to talking to us Becuase of our dogs wouldnt it be great if we could educate ppl who dont know about this when we go to the dog park ... instead of small talk we could talk about this you never know who you are talking or who is listening the more ppl that know the more the word is spread

My grandfather and my father raised horses! Their farm was less than 10 miles from Amish counrty! It always made me sick- My Mom always told a story, about when I was 10- we were out there getting- rag rugs they had made for us- I went up to a work horse tied up started petting it- and asked what it's name was- NOT ONE WORD WAS SAID BY ANY ONE!!! She said I just kept petting the horse looking at them for a few- then tears ran down my cheeks! She did not let me go again untill I was 15!!
Dad had 1 quarter horse, Pat- that lived to 35!
I do not want to see an Amish puppymill!
