| Reading a tattoo I am new to this group, so I'm not sure where to post this. My question is, my new rescue yorkie has a tattoo and I don't understand what it says. The last 3 digits are 18G. I have no idea how old she is, and I need to get her to the vet for dental work. They have asked me her age...but I simply don't know. Does anyone know what those numbers and letter means. The tattoo is on her belly on her right inner thigh. I have attached a photo so you can see her. |

| Welcome to YT! There are pet Tattoo registries. It depends on where they were tattoo'd. Some numbers and/or letters were just randomly selected and others were given from the registry. Do an online search for your area or the area your dog was from and call them. I would get her microchipped since you are now her new owner. She is a cutie!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Just want to welcome you to YT. Maybe the vet will have some ideas. That's why I don't like tattoos, not enough resources to follow. I wonder if she was used for breeding?

| As far as I was told she was a show dog and they tried to use her for breeding, but she had trouble with carrying her puppies. She is from Toronto, ON. When I got her, I had to have her shaved down, because the matts where so tight around her belly, and her toe nails where curled right into the pads of all her feet. I am taking her to a vet in London, ON where they will give her gas, not put her under to fix her teeth. Thank you everyone for the welcome. I'm glad I found this site, it is very informative and interesting!! |

| Welcome to YT!! and i'd never tatoo a Yorkie or any really small dog, OUCH!! but we used to raise Coonhounds,, and DH tatooed them,, but with that,, most people use their SS# or phone number or the dogs birthday,, anything they can use and record to prove the dog belongs to them

Poor little thing, I hope all goes well. Doesn't sound like the previous owners want her back if she couldn't be a moneymaker for them. I'm so glad you found her. Let us know how things go at the vet.

| Thank you everyone for all your help. I found the number for CKC in Ontario, and phoned them. According to what I can read of her tattoo, she is 11 years old. Vet visit in next Friday. It has taken me almost a year to get her coat back to full length again. |
