I can do it, I can do it... You guys, I'm getting teary eyed just thinking about this. I need to make the appointment to get Coco spayed. She is almost 20 weeks (5 months). I want to do it before she gets her period. She's just so small and the idea of leaving her to go under is too much to bear. I am getting teary thinking of leaving her alone. I wonder if her vet would let me stay with her. I'm so scared but I know I have to do this. HELP ME DO THIS!!!! I know it won't be a hoot to her but I'm scared. |
Awwww, girl it will be ok! I'm convinced that this is far worse on us "mommies" than it is on our poor babies! When Sully went in to get neutered, I cried all the way there and teared up all the day he was gone until he got home. However, the vet smiled and said that Sully was her easiest, smoothest case she'd had all month and after that he had a quick, easy recovery! So yes, you CAN! And we're all here for you! And Coco will be healthier and happier because of it. |
worried Hi vainchick im worried to as my prudence is 4 months old and has to get spayed eventually to Im really nervous about it and Ill be crying on your shoulder soon let us know when she goes in. :) dianne :) |
I just know I will be a mess that day. Dianne you can totally cry on my shoulder because I know the agony. I am getting anxiety just thinking about it. |
I know how you feel! I remember whe Lucy went for hers. Speak to the vet, we did and ours was very sympathetic and we were allowed to stay with Lucy from when she had her sedation until she was really dopey. Does Coco get panicy at the vet? Lucy does and again the vet was sympathetic and made sure that her op was done first so that she did not have the stress of being stuck in a kennel without Mum. They know how hard it is for you and any vet worth their money will try to make it as easy on the both of you as possible :) |

You can do this! I was a MESS when Simon went in. Of course he did great and I think the vet consoled me more than him! We are all here for you, always know that and most of us have been through this so we totally understand. |
I know how you feel. I have not been able to face making the appointment for princess Chai! She is only 2 lbs and the breeder actually sjuggested I not have her spayed because of her size. Chai is almost 8 months old and has not had a heat yet, but I am sure it will be soon. (She has been kinda moody lately.HaHa!) It was pretty easy with Buddha but I think the neutering procedure is not as invasive as the spay. It is good to know that there are vets who will let you be with them as long as possible. This has given me the courage to ask my vet about this for her. |
I know its done everyday to millions of dogs...but this is my baby. Her vet is so awesome though and she adores him. She actually gets excited when we approach the office and loves playing with him. She licks him all over. I know she will be in good hands, just the thought of leaving her is unbearable. Maybe if I take the day off and just wait in the office.Do you think that will be worse than if I work to keep my mind busy? |

She's only 2 lbs at about 20 weeks. I HAVEN'T EVEN MADE THE APPOINTMENT YET! That's why I needed this thread to give me positive feedback about their experiences with their babies, especially the tiny ones. I'm so scared, everytime I dial my vets number I hang up on the last digit (just like in the movies). I really need to make the appointment before she gets her period  I've heard that it's better to get them spayed before their period. |

Mac weighs 2 lbs 15 oz and he was a year old when he was neutered and one testical was not decended. Mellie was 8 months when she was spayed and weighs 4lbs. (what a chubby). Yes I cried when i dropped them off. My vet is great though. We went through a lot together when Mac was a baby. They had to spend the night but they got to stay together in the same crate. They didn't even mind my 400 phone calls checking up on them and even let me talk to them on the phone. I was a wreck all the same until I picked them up the next morning. They were just fine. Everything will be alright but we can't help but worry about our little furbabies. |
she will be fine dont worry Rex is already neutered and he was fine, just expect her not to play alot when u pick her up |
Somehow I think I will have the opposite problem, I will have to stop her from playing. She is full of energy. When she got her rabies shot her vet told me some dogs, especially smaller ones, have reactions and at best just become sleepy or lethargic. Yup Coco went on like it was a celebration day..I don't know, I think I'm worrying for nothing. She's a strong cookie. |
Coco really sounds like my Katie's twin. Katie will be a 1 year old on August 5th and she's on 2.6 lbs ..... sounds like Coco is going to remain just as tiny as her. Katie is also a bundle of energy - nothing stops her from running around and having fun. I really think Coco will be ok. Your vet sounds great and Coco feels comfortable with him (with is a big plus). All you have to watch out for is Coco chewing on her stitches - unless they use internal stitches. |
How do you keep them from chewing?? |

Just drop her off - get a buddy to go shopping with you like I did during the teeth cleaning fiasco - kept my mind off of it, and then pick her up and be ready to baby her through it. Poor little things. They just don't understand the things we do to them to make them healthy. |

I heard soemone once say that they sprayed the area w/ a little bit of bitter apple. But I've never done this because I'd be afraid the bitter apple would sting or burn or even cause an infection (you're supposed to keep the stitches dry too). So ask your vet first. |
I havent spay Gucci yet. I have to call the vet to make the appointment. My husband doesnt want me too but I know is best for her. Dont worry about Coco she will be fine just make sure they use Isofluarane(sp) for the anesthesia. To prevent Coco to chew on the stiches I heard some use the e collar and others use an Onesie. For the day of the surgery do what is best for you, if you think you can be productive at work then go to work, if not take the day off. I know you will worry either way, is in our nature. Good luck. Let us know when you schedule the appt. |
wait?!?! they were supposed to be sleepy after the rabies shot!?!?! rex was hyper as ever! just dont be to worried if she is verry sleepy |
My gosh, she would hate the e collar. I guess the only way to avoid an e-collar and prevent stitch chewing, is to have her on my lap all day. Yes I asked and her vet uses Isofl...something or other..haha..I NEED TO DO THIS...I NEED TO DO THIS...I tried dialing his number again..haha....Gotta keep trying. |
Did you call yet?? |
Darn It. I Finally Called And He Said To Call Him Back At 4pm When He's In The Office To Check The Calendar More Precisely...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...i Barely Got The Guts To Do It Now.. |
Dial 1-800-Coco-Vet Well..your half/way there! ;) I understand ...I'll be following you doing the same with Sophie in a few months. Keep us posted... :) |
Ok I did it. I started bawling over the phone, and the vet probably thought I was a nut case, but I did it. Her appointment is August 19th at 930am, and I can pick her up in the evening. I can take a blanket/toy, whatever I want to make her comfy. He was trying to comfort me..haha...just to make the appointment. |
Proud of Ya... Quote:
And you get to bring her home later that day! :D She won't know what hit her..she will sleep until you come get her...and can spoil her to death! :p Your a good Mommie...and this in the long run will be best for Coco. I know you know that. O.K....I'll be doing the same thing in about 6 wks after Coco has her surgery. I'll be nervous too! Post and let us know on Aug. 19th...how she is...K? ;) |
