Pregnant Yorkie Is there any way to know if a yorkie is pregnant. My Dusty was in heat the week before Christmas, some let her outside the front door by mistake. I just worried that some dog got her, she seemed ok, when she got back in the house. But her nipples got quite large when she was in heat and they still seem quite large. She's 11 months old and quite the pretty girl.

Your vet may be able to tell by feeling for developing puppies, but I don't know of any way the layman can tell other than waiting and seeing if the dog gains weight.

The vet can feel for fetuses around day 35 after matting. After that you can do either ultrasound or x ray also. My dog just had her first heat also and the same thing happened with her nipples. They got very swollen after about day 5 of heat and stayed that way for several weeks. The hormones in a pregnant bitch and an un pregnant bitch are the same so you can't do a urine or blood test like you can on humans. Although if she is pregnant, gestation is around 65 days so you won't have to wait long to be sure. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

| I was hoping that my yorkie was pregnant last month because we did try to mate her. She had all the symptoms, Lazy, nipples (teets) getting larger morning sickness, off her food, etc. But I brought her to the vet about 8 weeks into what I thought was pregnancy and it turned out she was not.. Only real way to know for sure is a vet visit.. Or wait, and I don't suggest waiting just in case she is pregnant. If she did mate, you would want to make sure she won't have a problem giving birth.. Wait a few weeks and see if there are any other changes. If she did mate she would be due around Feb 14-21. Hope this helps!

I talked to our vet and made an appt for next week. Per the vet that should be the right time to check. Hopefully, I'm just a worried mom and she's not pregnant.
