| General Question About Tails... I've never had Lucy's tail trimmed and it's getting long in length. Makes her look like she has a long tail. Do you trim the end of your Yorkies tail?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I'm trying to grow full coat on both of mine. But when I do get them cut down I plan to just cut the side coat and leave legs, facial and tail. If I were cutting them down completely, I would probably trim some of the length off of the tail.

| We trim the tail in a wedge starting at the tip and letting it get a tiny bit longer at the base near the tushy. If you do this and trim the tush they won't have so many 'issues' at potty time and clean up will be a breeze! We've always done this, even with full length coats, and it blends in perfectly. Here's the link to a thread I started about tails a while back and it has pictures of how ours are done. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...001#post456001 Last edited by my2boyz; 02-29-2008 at 10:34 AM. |

| Our groomer never cuts Jewels tail but about a month ago the hair got matted and we had to cut it short. It looks kinda funny with long hair

| Thank you for posting your thread. Very helpful. So...in anyone's opinion, does Lucy's tail look okay or should I trim it? She gets the close cut on the inside of the legs, etc. but never touched the tail...

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Nope, I just let it grow naturally. They end up w/ cute little "tufts" on their tails - I just love it, bc their tails become so expressive with those little tufts of fur. No trimming here.

| Callie has hers trimmed the same length as her body, and Turbo is in a full coat so I leave his long as well.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I love Joey's tail and have never cut the hair on it. Even if I ever cut his coat, I'll leave his tail hair long. He looks like he has a topknot on the back.

| No way...I love how the hair flows off of the tail. I'm trying to grow Lacy's hair out...I LOVE the full coats..I dont believe in cutting their hair

| I asked the groomer about that the time before last..My oldest yorkie just turned 5, her tail looked long also because of all the hair, and I wanted it short..anyway, she said they don't cut the hair on the tail unless they cut the hair elsewhere...well, last weekend, I just had her clipped down for the first time in 5 years, and now, her tail is very short... |
