| SCARED to socialize Lily! Little background- We have a mini schnauzer (Emrick) who I took alot of time and care to socialize so he wasnt aggressive, shy, loud or any of the bad things dogs can be. The training paid of and he is a great dog!!! We decided to get a second dog and I was having a lot of trouble finding a repuatable yorkie breeder and in the mean time found that a 6month old yorkie named (lily) really needed a home and was in our area. So we got her!!!! When we got her she had NEVER seen another dog while with her old owners! It took awhile for her to get used to Emrick. When we take her anywhere she freaks out!!! Barking at everything that moves especially other dogs!!! I take her around friends dogs to get her socailized but it dosent seem to be helping! She barks like crazy and its really embarrasing! Im thinking this is why the family got rid of her Will she grow out of if? Any tips on how to break her of this? Have you ever heard of a citronella bark collar and if they work? I think im going to have to resort to that because all i have read says they work and dont cause pain. Please help im at my wits end!!! I think my hubby is so annoyed he would also like to get rid of her!!! That will never happen though!!!! Thanks for your advice! |

| Have you thought of trying a Puppy Kindergarten class with her? I think this mainly works on socialization as well as training.

| Do you have a PetSmart near you? They offer the classes.

| I hear about these citronella sprays that are supposedly harmless as it sprays up in their face. Then I think that citronella is strong enough to use as a bug repellent outside. That tells me we just might not be using a totally safe substance. Just something to think about...Have you gone back to the old owner to ask specific questions about the behavior.? At least you will have all the info from the start. So many puppies that are from mills, pet shops, cb's, and uncaring BYBers have socialization problems. You can work with them but the truth is, that puppy might have fear aggression for a long time. Bless you and the fact that you took that baby. Let us know how y'all progress. |
