| Praising my Kaba I have had my yorkie, Kaba (japanese for hippo), since she was 8 weeks old and she is now 6 months. I have had such a wonderful experience that I wanted to share on here. From the start she has been wonderful. The biggest hurdle was potty training and eating poop (gross, i know!). As far as potty training goes, it took a little patience but we pretty much have it down. I'm an outside smoker and every time I go outside I take her with me. She knows "go potty" and is good about going if she has to. I've learned it is consistency. The only time she has ever gone in the house is when I forget to take her out or have gotten preoccupied with something else. We still find accidents around the house every once in a while, but its mostly when she's left home a little too long without getting let out. I don't work and therefore she spends most of her time with me. She knows her crate and will not complain if I put her in there but we don't use it regularly. I have in the past with my other dogs but different situations call for different training methods. I wanted to be able to leave her to play with Cleo, our cat, when we arent home and know that she is trained to do so. The cat gets into more stuff than Kaba does. The eating poop was a little more challenging. At first it was just her own poop. If its inside, I think/thought she was trying to hide the evidence since she knew it was wrong. Though I caught her a few times doing it outside. I keep a good eye on her outside and I think she's pretty much stopped. Now, she has found Cleo's cat box and loves to indulge in that. There is a now a babygate blocking the laundry room to stop that. Other than those things, she is wonderful. She rarely ever barks (i really hope she doesn't pick that up later), I can trust her when I'm not around, and she and the cat absolutely adore each other. Cleo gets very upset if she doesnt know where our yorkie is. She is such a cuddlier and sleeps curled up next to me every night. We did start it a little young and we had a few accidents in our bed but i know it was because she has a hard time jumping down because our bed is so high. This morning before I woke up, she jumped off the bed to pee on the floor because I slept in too late. (my fault, not hers) I'm not very good on the whole consisitency training and therefore she pretty much only knows sit, outside, house(to come back in). But she picks up very quickly and is very easy to train if I only took the time. This is a lot of rambling to basically say, I love my yorkie, and I couldnt ask for a better one. Her personality completely defies the yorkie breed because she is very timid and shy but thats why I like her. She loves her mommy and wants to make her mommy happy. |
