The year we were in Florida 2006 there was a boy playing with his dog near water and the gator killed the dog, it was just like a block away from where we were staying....and I just wanted to add that this dog was a Lab, so he was a BIG dog to boot....

Good post! Gators are definitely dangerous! One of the problems is that when people feed them they become even more dependent on humans for food. There are plenty of stories about gators showing up on people's back porches or in their pools.

OMG I really feel for the parent of the lost yorkie I hurts my heart.
I plan on moving to Florida in a few years and that is one thing I have always told my Hubby Buzz is to go out for walks only on the side walks. Gators smell them easily they are a prey to them. Its not the 1st time I read about stories such as this.
NO LAKES for BUZZ!

The latest deadly attack came June 23, when 2-year-old Alexandria Murphy wandered from her Winter Haven back yard to nearby
Lake Cannon and was killed by a 6 1/2-foot alligator. Her mother and grandmother were inside the home at the time.

On May 4, the chewed body of 70-year-old Samuel Wetmore, who suffered from dementia,
was found floating in a Venice retention pond with an 8-foot alligator circling nearby.

The two incidents were among seven alligator attacks documented by the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in the first six months of this year.
The yearly average is 15 to 20 attacks.

you never know where an alligator might pop up," said Jim Huffstodt of the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission.

Ohhhhhhh please everyone know I LOVE living here....... but as my professors says all the time “As educated people is good to know” (even though sitting there I am thinking nah really don’t care if I know that! Lol) but its a knowledge that lots don’t realize. I just felt education needed to be said on this.

So many things about Florida are WONDERFUL

to raise your baby. Like no snow for them to shake to use the potty outside and the sun is not only good for humans but the vitimims we get from the sun are GREAT for our babies. Green grass is here even in the winter. IF your baby is like mine the squirrels they go nuts over just staring up the tree thinking “Now how am I suppose to get up there?”

Dangers are really everywhere and can be anywhere you live but knowing that, to me is how you protect them. I couldn’t picture myself anywhere but here but just like out in the wild all animals know their prey and have developed ways to adapt so our job is to know that and adapt to protecting our babies but still love where we are!

SO come to Florida

............ enjoy it with your babies but just know your prey!

I love living here too, i recently moved to North Miami, and there are so many places to walk with Belle, the mall is pup friendly...in general it's a pretty good area for doggies, everyone has doggies in my condo community... I used to live in ft. lauderdale, and we had a lake, we never saw any gators, but we heard of others in the neighborhood who had... but MyPeanut is right... FL is pretty pup friendly...

Oh! and Belle is still trying to figure out how to climb trees to catch the squirrels... teehee!
Those floridians on the forums...anyone in SoFL??
