| Microchip? Hey everyone I wasn't sure if there was a different sub forum that I should put this in, but I was wondering how many of you have your yorkies micro chipped? I saw there was a spot on the registration papers for the micro chip number, so should I get it done before I send the registration in? Or is he too young to get it yet? |

| microchip All dogs in Italy must be microchipped. I think this is law now in the EU as they also have to have passports with their chip number. My girls do and it's been no bother. I think its a great idea for identification in case they should get lost. |

| Tucker is microchipped and I definitely recommend it especially with all the dognappings lately. Vets use microchips to help identify lost or stolen dogs so it's worth it although hopefully you will never have to use it!

| Yeah that's what I was thinking! I know that Yorkies and other little dogs have been getting stolen a lot lately and it would make me feel a lot better if he was chipped. |

| ok, since I have the found yorkie post this is making me curious. Preston is not microchipped to my knowledge, as we got him from a rescue @ 5 months old. I guess I should ask my vet to scan him to make sure. If I have him microchipped, what is the average cost, and average cost of registration of the chip? Makes me curious if it is expensive to register the chip since the yorkie I found is chipped but not registered. |

| We had our Boston terrier chipped when she was spayed a little over a week ago. My youngest yorkie Coco was chipped by the breeder, and Bella will be chipped when she is spayed as well. I haven't registered coco's yet I want to confirm the number before I send it in. I believe it is a one time cost to register it. Our Boston, Choloe, was all taken care of with the vet's office so I don't have to do the registration on my own. I honestly don't know how much it was all together for the chip and registration but I think it is priceless if it helps my find one of my pups if they get lost some day.

I just pd for the registration in Dec. I think it was $10 apiece to register them - great peace of mind. Not sure what it costs for the actual chipping.

| Sarge got chipped at the same time as his neuter. He won't wear his ID tags so I found this to be my best option. People steal these little guys, and i'm a paranoid freak, lol.

| that is sad, only $10 a piece? I am sad that under $20 could have gotten this little guy home today. If I find his owner, I will definately mention to them that they need to get the chip registered, hopefully they just did not know. Heck, if I have to, I will register the chip for them. If we never find the owner, can my sister get the chip registered in her name if she keeps him? I think I will call my vet tomorrow. I need to get Preston in for neutering and to get his puppy teeth pulled. I can just get that done at the same time. |

| How does micro chipping help if the dog is stolen? I know if the dog runs away and is taken to the vet, then they can scan it, but normally a person who steals a dog isn't going to try to find the owner. |
