| What's your average yearly cost for care/upkeep? Another post just got me thinking. I did find some information on the Net regarding annual puppy costs, but I wonder what real Yorkie moms spend on average for their babies. Haven't taken the big step yet (still hoping and praying for the right time), but I need to know what I'm getting into. Thanks in advance!!! |

| Welcome to yt. I can give you before and after I joined yt costs. Before I joined yt, it cost me about $400-$500 per year...but we had a really expensive vet!! After I joined yt, it has cost me at$200-300 more I just can't seem to resist all the cute stuff on here.

| Oh boy I didnt know what I was getting into but here ism my list and Bailey will be 6 mos next week: $600 for the yorkie $100 - $150 for food, crate, cushion, toys, bowls, leash, harness, treats, carpet cleaner and pee pads - the essentials. They are so adorable that you start buying stuff I swear! Shots were expensive - about $100 for each round, 3 rounds in all, so $300 (that included all shots, parvo, bordatella, rabies, distemper, and something else and 6 mos supply of flea and tick meds, and blood test, and poop exam) then Bailey got sick - vomiting and diarhea, pancreatitis from chicken strip treats - and that was a huge $250 vet bill Oh yea, pet deposit at my apt - $200 and we still have not gotten the neuter which will be another $150- $200 and I still have not gotten him into puppy class - another $100 oh and I got him groomed - $40 so about 1500 in his short little 6 month old life. but we wont have to pay that much again. THE CUDDLEBUG GLAD TO SEE ME AFTER A HARD DAY OF WORK AND CUDDLING UP NEXT TO ME IN THE BED AT NIGHT - PRICELESS It pays to love your yorkie!! |

| it's all up to you, i think. if you have a healthy yorkie, it will be about $200/yr for vet cost, not including neuter/spay. The food doesn't cost that much either cuz they eat so little even if you buy premium brand. BUT i buy my yorkie something every time i go shopping (i.e target). And if you decide to clothes your yorkie, that's extra. Grooming is extra too and costs me ~$30 about once a month. oh, and we decided to rent while we're looking for a new house and the apt charged me $500 pet fee. i'm acutally scared to calculate how much i spend on my baby. But he's soooo worth it!! |

| Let's see, I'll try to stick to necessary expenses: Annual vet exams (if no problems) with shots about $150 per dog. Flea/Tick and Heartworm Meds about $150 per dog per year We just bought food & treats for our three for a month...$44.00 (but we've got big yorkies and our third is a much larger mix) Teeth cleaning - so far, ours have great, clean teeth...could be the dry kibble, could be their youth...but plan on needing to clean teeth in the future. Grooming - if you do it yourself, plan on $50 - $100 for basic supplies to get your started. If you pay a groomer plan on $40 or more per visit. Other expenses include: Beds, toys, blankets, coats/sweaters, harnesses, leashes, tags, microchipping (one time fee), licensing, training class (highly recommended), fencing our yard (best thing we ever did), belly bands & pads for Bernie (hopefully you won't need these), bows, carseats (we made ours really cheap...not pretty but functional)

| well... i've never thought about this and i think it might scare me to see the total Vet bills... we go twice a year.. so total with blood work, shots, ... $350 Food- i home cook... usually spend 40 dollars every 2 months. - $240 Clothes- We spend A LOT Of money in the winter on jackets and stuff... $100 Toys... that's kinda leveled off.. and the GE's help - $50 I groom at home so this year there was a ONE TIME expense of $200 Heartworm meds are $50 a year Layla goes to the sitter probably 2-3 times a month ($15/day- $20/overnight) so total a year... $150-$200 a year (we usually take a week long holiday) so yikes... i'll let you do the math! but there is nothing like her kisses in the morning and how EXCITED she is to see me at the end fo the day.. i'd pay anything for that.. oh also keep in mind future expenses.. i'm pretty sure Layla will have LP surgery which i hear runs $1200 per leg.... |

| welcome to yt. if you get a wonderful healthy yorkshire terrier, you will not spend more than any other puppy. the first year is the most expensive due to shots. depending on how you want to dress your baby (which is addicting) you could spend a lot. good luck with finding your new baby. my advise is to contact the vet you will be using and ask them about the yearly shot fees

| Haha I have a LOT.. but don't be scared, I think my case is pretty special. I've had Franklin for a little over a month now and here's around what we've spent: -Probably around $200 dollars on bed, blankets, food, toys, travel crate, bowls, harness, leash, shampoo, potty pads -$50 on a playpen -$100 on clothes, a collar, Yorkie Yummies.... (Franklin's a spoiled brat) -$55 for initial vet visit, including exam, fecal sample, worming and coccidia medication Then............... Franklin got parvo. And we spent $1600 total on his vet bills. But it's not likely that your puppy will get parvo, so don't worry. He's going in for his 3rd set of vaccinations tomorrow which I assume will cost me somewhere around $60. He's getting groomed the following week which will be about $25. Hopefully we'll get to stop going to the vet soon and those expenses will reduce down to twice or so a year. The grooming will also probably be every other month. He'll also need to get neutered soon! ACK that'll be another $250 or so. Hope we didn't scare you off!

| WOW WELCOME TO YT I guess I will add my little baby! We got my sweetheart on Oct 18th 2007 He is currently 6 months old. The price of him well you can do the math!! Leash.. harness... treats.... atleast 25 articles of clothing.... stairs ....carrier .....food ....professional pictures..... crate.... 6-8 blankets .....carrier that goes around my waist...toys..... nail clippers....nutrical.... pedialyte......2 belly bands..... Not to mention a vet visit this year 2008 Jan 10th $80.00 Jan 11th $500.00 Jan 14th 250.00 Jan 18th Major Surgery. 6500.00 We are still charged every time we go and we go weekly for 8 weeks. We have stayed in a hotel twice. We drive 2 hours there and 2 hours home So gas expenses weekly I would say in 90 days 12-15 grand and could be more!!! My baby was born with a birth congenital defect called Atlanto Axial Subluxation. When buying your baby research research research.. buy from a reputable breeder and do a major health screen before you write the check.... My baby is as good as new the cast is on him to protect him he gets it off in 5 weeks... No amt of money would ever make me change my mind on what I have done thus far... I had a lot of support from yt parents so you are at the right place! Hugs Vicki
