| chewing puppy Ok. My Yorkie (Wyzquis) will be a year February 17. He's potty-trained and minds well, for the most part. However, he is a biter. Not mean or hard... he just likes to chew on your hands. He rarely lets you pet him without trying to chew on you. Does anyone else have this problem with their "baby". I've never been a "dog" person until we got him... and now I'm obsessed with him. Any suggestions or help would be great! Thanks!

| I am so glad to see this post on here! I have the same problem with Boo. She will bite our hands too when we try to pick her up or pet her. I feel so sad sometimes because we are not able to show her the love that we feel because she won't let us. I was beginning to think I was the only one with this problem. She's about 4 1/2 months old, and I hope she outgrows this with age. We are starting an obedience class tonight because I thought it might help her have more discipline, and it would help us know how to handle this situation! |

| This is another one of those things that you have to be sooooo consistent with (like coins in the can for barking!) but say 'no bite' or whatever you want to use and put something they are allowed to bit in front of their nose. They should be taught bite inhibition by their parents and litter mates, but sometimes this gets missed if they get separated too early (ask me how I know ) I also do the quick fingers at the neck, ala Cesar, but be very careful with this and the tiny ones. But Purl is learning lots about 'no bite' from her big sis, cockapoo Lacey!! |
