| How do you know... if your female is in heat??? I just read that a female can go into heat as young as 5 months! I guess it's not likely. I plan on getting Sadie fixed before she ever goes into heat but my vet waits till they are 6-7 months. SHe is four months now... I know they bleed but do they bleed through out the whole heat or just when they go to the bathroom? I have never dealt with this and hope I don't have to but just in case, what do I need to know? Chewy is fixed so at least she can't get pregnant!!!

| You might see blood (usually a drop where they have been laying) or clear discharge on her "private area'. It might very well be swollen down there.

| Kalina was only 6 months when she had her first heat. It's really not as gruesome as you think. There were a few drops of blood here and there, and she was swollen. You can put a little doggie diaper on her inside the house if you have to. It is definately best to have them spayed before they go into heat for the first time. It prevents them from getting breast cancer. Usually six months is a good age to arrange for the spay. They do not bleed for the entire 3 weeks.

| Yorkies keep themselves very clean. You might not even notice unless you have other dogs in the house. |
