Just found this They should make this a law in every state.. NEWS: The state of Rhode Island recently enacted a state law that will require cat owners, excluding farmers, to spay or neuter their cats by the time they are six months old... or face a fine if they don't. Governor Dan Carcieri said "By signing this legislation today, we are taking the necessary steps to reduce the number of impounded cats that are euthanized in cities and towns throughout the state". |
Yes, that would be a great law  I'm all for that being the case for dogs & cats, unless you obtain a breeding license. Especially for cats though! My gosh...those things can put out some babies! Cats pretty much stay in heat until they get pregnant, and can get pregnant again when the kittens are only 2 weeks old. It's amazing how quickly cats can multiply. |
But, they don't get pg in the winter months, which I always found kind of strange. |
Oye... The government is allowed to tell us we have to alter our animals now?:thumbdown |

And I think natural seasonal breeding may only apply to some outdoor animals. I know of cat breeders whose cats will breed all year around. My two cats both have birthdays in November. Spring/Summer is the natural "kitten season" though as that's when you'll find shelters overflooded with them |
I always wonder how these type of laws will be effectively enforced. |

I agree. I think California was trying to do that with dogs also with some exceptions for breeding licenses. Sounds good in theory until you stop to consider the fact...the government would be in charge of who got a breeding license and who did not. I wouldn't be quick to assume every person who applied for one would get it and that includes "reputable" breeders. For the record....all my animals are spayed and neutered...just don't tell me I have to do it. |
I can see the need for the spay/neuter law..just not all that happy about the govt forcing it. |
They would have a hard time doing that here it is a big dairy and farming community, farmers need those cats for all the rodents. And some of those rodents get bigger than the cats in those corn bins .They give me the creeps, hate rats. |
If people would just do the right thing, the government wouldn't HAVE to create and enforce laws like this. |
Usually 2 litters here per year per momma one in the spring and one later summer. Alot of cats in shelters here but those are house cats being bred.Farmers will put ads in the papers asking for cats, in the spring and fall. |
