Lexi was spayed on dec. 14th and I've noticed a personality change in her. I was wondering if anyone else noticed something similar in their babies. We took her back to the vet to have the morphine patch removed and when the vet tech came out to get her my sweet, loving puppy turned into Cujo

! I had to put her one the floor and let the young lady drag her into the examination room where she finally turned docile enough to be handled. Now when a new face comes to our house she snarls and barks for a long time. I guess I knew she would get cautious at some age but it was so sudden. Now she desperately needs to go to the vets to be groomed but I'm afraid she'll have a vicious reaction to the groomer. Anyone else have this happen

I've heard of drastic changes when they get spayed/neutered because their hormone levels are changed and basically for the lack of a better word, CRAZY, at least for a little while....... another thing is, that she was hurting, she just got spayed!!! (by a stranger she has never known) these guys are very smart and she probably is cautious around new people specifically for that reason........ but i think the hormone levels are a big cause to youre problem, just give her time to settle down........ what are you doing when she does this to people??? what kind of disciplin do you give her when she does this behavior???

Cecilia is being spayed tomorrow morning and I am so nervous. I don't know what it is going to do to her behavior and all but most of all I am scared of her not making it thru surgery okay. If anything happened to her I would just be devestated. Does the vet give the dog something for pain after? Do they have sutures or just tape on the incision? What kind of expiences did you all have spaying your girls?

lol....... the tape was a joke!

Usually they use stitches to close the insision i have only heard of the staples and glue being used once or twice (actually it is probably not worth mentioning)......... but ask your vet when you go in... they usually need to be retrained from jumping and strenuous behavior too

It's hard not to worry when you love them as much as we do. Maddie was spayed when she was 6 months and did great, she didn't have any pain medicine and she was back to her self in no time. Rudy was 8 months when he was netured and did great too, I was worried he would lick his stiches, since he is a little toot, but he was a good boy. I brought both of mine home that afternoon and they just slept. I think it is best if you can bring them home and they can be in there own bed and you can take care of them. Let us know how Cecilia is and I will say a little prayer for her. They are tuff little furbabies..................Cindy
Yorkierules, My Vet says it takes about a month for them hromones to get straight. Since Maddie has been spayed she put on a little weight.

Thank you all for your replies. CamilleK - I totally understand your fears. I had them too but everything is alright now. Lexi came home in what we refered to as a 'tank top'. Basically the incision was glued and she had a morphine patch on her side for approx. 4 days. They put the tank top on her mostly so that she would not eat off the morphine patch which they explained to me is time released but if swallowed, she would become ill. She never once tried to lick at her cut. She did whimper quite a bit for the first day but then she never sat still so she must have had a bit of discomfort. She's fine now - her usual crazy, loving self. I swear, when you look at that pup you can just see the little hearts float off of her head because she is so loved and she so loves her people. I never thought about hormones. She is still nervous around strange men (her vet is a man) but she eventually calms down. I didn't discipline her after that first emotional outburst. Honestly, I was too shocked to think about it. CamilleK - I wish you luck with your babies surgery. I'm sure it will be OK and in the long run the little bit will live a longer and healthier life.
