WOW! i don't know what to say about this subject anymore. as i was browsing this site and looking at the "kennal" pictures it does appear to be fairly clean and high tech so to speak..but it still doesn't make it okay to me. i just can't imagine giving birth after birth after birth,i have 2 girls,do you think i would want to feel that pain time after time i don't think so.what gives us the right to do that to a dog?i am so surprised that there isn't a law in place that states how many times you can breed a female before it's considered animal cruelty. to me the dogs can be in a 5 star hotel, and you would think that the dogs are happy because their in this enviorment, but what's the use of putting them in such a "good" enviorment when all your going to do is breed her to death!i mean do people really think that these dogs are happy?i would bet that if a dog could talk it would tell you that it would rather live in a 1 star hotel with a steady loving family and not be bred to death than to live in luxary and be a baby slave.jmho in this matter. |
His FAQ section is worth reading. http://www.puppyhavenkennel.com/ When you at the home page there is a list on the left. Click on FAQ. |
site Okay, it is not a puppy mill, it is a puppy factory. IMO..anyone who thinks this is an ideal place to breed/gestate/whelp/rear pups is has no clue as to what they are talking about. Breeder states hybrids rarely have health problems, in what world do they live..not this one? |
If a puppy mill is cleaned up is it more than a cleaner puppymill? Not in my book. Dogs who live on the wire that USDA requires as floors in those cages have been so crippled when they are rescued that they cannot walk in many instances. So, clean that up and you still have a poor crippled dog/bitch stumbling around on cleaner wire. Does that make the dogs feet heal? Are they less crippled when they are retired? JMHO |
I posted earlier that I was horrified by what I saw on that site. I stand by that. There is no way that they have happy well adjusted dogs. Villette, you said it, they keep those dogs in cages, they breed breed breed and then they die. Dogs are social animals. They love people. The dogs there must have their heart broken a dozen times a day as people pass by and don't even offer an ounce of human kindness or attention. How do I know this you ask? C'mon, common sense tells me that it's impossible with that many dogs to give each one the attention it craves. Cruelty in any form, to animals or humans, makes me sick to my stomach. Yes, I am horrified. |
mixing all these breeds? What is up with mixing all these breeds? If you ask me, it's creepy mixing these breeds all around. They have the head of one thing and the body type of another. Eck! :( :thumbdown |

Then I look at my babies happy faces and think to myself - there would NEVER be a happy face in those places. Never...unless they were getting out of it. |
This place is only about 35 min north of me. I am thinking about going and checking it out when everything settles down around here. |
I personally think that the person running that is delusional if they think that dogs want to be treated like that. |

Every time I see PET STORE.. it makes my blood boil..I jsut think of the 9 pills times 2 a day I give my Charlie-- who has seizures, hip dysplasia , catarack and thyroid ..all by 3 years of age. It is so unfair to these creatures to have them go thru this all for the sake of profit to be made by these places. |

I would never discount your concerns and I respect your opinion so I do not take them lightly. The kennel owner addresses your questions in his FAQ section. Everyone: I am not defending him. His operation simply does not fit my definition of a puppymill. He does not breed and breed and breed the females until they die. He says he has strict policies on this. Maybe I am just naive, but I don't think so. I have a pretty good sense for when I am being decieved and I don't think this website is deceptive. The puppymills I want to concentrate on stopping are the ones that mistreat the animals and have deplorable and filthy living conditions with wide spread disease and stagnant water bowls and no health care provided. I don't see that here. That is all I am saying. This guy breeds only purebred dogs to get the hybrids. He does not keep any of the hybrid puppies produced for breeding. There are a lot of vets who will support his contention that purebred dogs have more health issues than mixed breed dogs. I am as adamantly opposed to puppymills as anyone and I am passionate about putting them out of business. At first glance, this breeder does not look like a puppymill to me. I hope everyone can respect that this is just my opinion. We have much bigger and worse fish to fry....that's all I'm saying. |

That would be great. I for one would really like to know your evaluation of the place. You are well respected by everyone here and you are what I would consider an authority on animal care and training. If you called it a puppymill after your inspection then I would agree and work to close it down! |
Im going to go check it out as soon as things settle down around here. I will let you know what I think. Should be a day or 2 or maybe even tomorrow since things with my gramma are improving. |
