| Proud new owner of a yorkie Hello everyone. I am so excited that I found this site. I have a new little puppy yorkie named princess. She turned 4 months Yesterday 1/20/08. She is so precious. She is 4 lbs and is only expected to be 5 lbs at the most. She is so sweet. I never realized how active these little dogs could be. I do have a question for all of you yorkie owners. Right now I have been training her to use the potty on a doggie pad. Their are days that she will use it all day, but other days she will just go anywhere that she feels like. What should I do about this? Also, she is very territorial of her food, toys, rawhide bones etc. She starts grawling when my cat or other dog even walks by her when she is anywhere near these items and will try to bite them. Please help. I know I need to resolve this while she is still young. Thank you in advance for any responses I receive. |

| Welcome to yt is nice that you find us. I will not give her the run of the house untill she is potty train and if you do, you have to keep the eagle eye on her. Regarding the issue with toys sorry can't help you there because I don't have that problem, but I think I will tell her NO in a firm way or take the toy away if she behave that way then she will know. I'm sure that someone here will help you more. We love to see pictures or your fur-baby |

| Till she gets use to you all and gets housebroken. You need to limit her space till she understands what she is suppose to go and uses that area. Or outside if that is what you are doing. I still use potty pads for accidents when they don't think they can wait. At least if they run to the potty pad they know what they are to be doing. Be patient with her. She might just have to be fed in another bowl and not allow anyone in her bowl. I had one Yorkie that was like that and also with her treats. But the toys they have to learn to share for the most part. Play with them togeather and then individually. That way they get there personal time.

| I do have separate bowls for both of the dogs. My other dog does not even play with any toys. She is an older dog. She just has to walk by Princess and Princess thinks she is going to take her stuff. It is kinda cute to see how protective she is at this young age. Thanks for all the replies. This site is great. |

| Through YT I have learned that rawhide is not 100% digestable and also a small piece can lodge in throat causing the dog to choke, or lodge in the digestive tract which requires emergency surgery. Some say give them greenies but even with that there has been reports of dogs needing emergency surgery from eating them as well. Others say give them bully sticks but I just cant get past the fact that he would be eating a bull's penis!!!!(that's what they are!)
