I commented on this as well but after reflecting on my own posts, I think how receptive people are to what you say has as much to do with how you say something as what you are saying. I'm having to remind myself that in another thread and I'm 35. It's an easy thing to lose site of when something is important to you.;)

I respect and Like tammy.... I think if you re read her stament you will see she may have been feeling bad for all the harsh posts to the OP ...but also trying to lighten up this thread that has gotten WAY off track....

I just want to say, I havent looked at this thread for days, but I am glad I did. I just finished reading pretty much all of them... I thank you all for your opinions...

I only have a few things to say...

I am 24 years old, but I had wanted a Yorkie and educated myself for 3 years (since I had picked out Roxy's name before I had her & decided I wanted a Yorkie), well I got that Yorkie...

Roxy is by NO MEANS AKC standard... But she is AKC. I got her for 600 because My Breeder was VERY straight forward with me. She told me about her illnesses, and that she had no tail, but she showed me all her papers from the vets and everything. She was very kind and actually cried when I took Roxy, but she said she could tell when I held her that I was meant to be with her, as could I. I don't care at all if Roxy is a standard. To me, she's better than a standard. She's perfect. No tail and all. She has such gorgeous hair though! :D

As for breeders... I work with Connie because she is honest and kind. She doesnt pretend to be something she's not. If someone wants a 3lb dog, she will tell them straight out her dogs are going to be between 5 and 7 lbs or whatever they will be. I know many breeders whom breed purebreds, and are heartless cruel ppl. They just breed for money and to sell their dogs to the highest bidders... Connie sells her dogs (mixes and purebreds) for decent amounts, and she always makes sure the ppl are good ppl. She talks to them for a long time, gets to know them, and if she has a bad feeling, has been known to turn ppl down.

I see many Yorkies who are purebred who were bought for a decent amount of money (talking in the 1,000's) that ended up in rescues, abused, neglected.... and I realize this happens to mixes too. Ppl are going to breed ALL animals, not just mixes, just to make a quick buck.

At least I know My breeder isnt like that. When her Yorkie had problems breeding, she had it fixed and kept it. She has 3 Yorkies and a Poodle she had to get fixed, but they are still spoiled and loved by her. She has her own Yorkiepoo too. All her puppies are vet checked and documented and have their shots. I can tell how much she loves her dogs, and when I ask her a question, she always has a great answer. She even told me before that if I wanted to breed eventually that she would feel more comfortable if I got a male from someone else because she didnt know how small hers would be... (I am not going to breed Roxy, just if I wanted to get another female later)... To me, thats a good breeder, someone that cares about the puppies she has brought into the world and that theyre going to get a good home & theyd rather take a loss on them than have them hurt. She also tells everyone that if they ever have a problem where they dont want the dog, bring them back, she will always keep her door open for her babies. She is a kind woman who doesnt try to milk everything for every cent she can get... I think she's a great breeder. Mixes or purebreds, she's a good person.... that really loves her babies...

I can tell by reading this you sat and thought very carefully the right words to say..you said them beautifully, and your breeder sounds like a genuinally(sp) fantastic breeder to me..I would keep her as a breeder too..I do have one question for you? what do you mean she has no tail? Was the nubb cut off too short??

I would like to hope she meant it that way, but she's the third member that has made a comment to me about my age and basically said they couldn't learn from someone younger than them, and I know others on YT have been told they don't know anything because they are "young" as well. I hope that when I'm older that I don't ever feel that way...I truly think we can learn from people of all ages, no matter how old we are. I just have to wonder about those that think that way about age...do they not ever seen doctors younger than them, go to vets younger than them, go to a hairdresser younger than them, etc? I guess if it was meant to lighten the mood, it didn't work very well.

I don't like to make threads personal (although some have already chosen to do so with this thread), but I will say that I have always liked Tammy as well. I may not always agree with her, but I don't ever agree with ANYONE all the time...doesn't mean I don't like them or can't be their friend. Actually, I like pretty much everyone on YT.

Ok Michelle ... I think we all know how you feel now Hun... remember things you read. sometimes come across different than if some one says the. Tammy is a great Lady and so are you..You are just two different people, there is no reason for anyone to be upset. She was trying to lighten up the thread and some took it wrong.. I think it is time to drop it;)

Oh and I am a (Hair Stylist) we have a Joke in the Business .. that hair dressers work on ole ladies ,beauticians work out of there house ,and Stylist are in a Salon and are artists;) And my Clients Range in age from 4 months(yes 4 month hairball LOL) to 95 years.....;) :D

She was completely born without a tail. She has a little nub, but no bone for a tail. Its just a little flap of skin thats very tiny with some hair on it... Connie knew sometimes that can mean the tail is growing inside instead of outside, and she took Roxy (BabyGirl at the time) to the Vet and had her x-rayed. And the Vet said, no, she was just born without a tailbone... So she is very healthy! :D She just isn't the standard since she has no tail. When ppl see her they don't even notice she doesnt have one.
My best friend and me have a joke that "Roxy was the smart one because she heard that they were going to cut her tail off so she said... I better suck this thing back in!"... So we believe she was just being smart because she didnt want her tail wacked off.

Donna, thanks for all of the insight. It's been so nice to have a conversation on a delicate subject with no drama or attacks. My first reaction to breeders rehomeing their breeders was that they must be very cold (which is why I asked the question, to get insight). I no longer feel that way. I have a lot of respect for what you all do! Again, thanks for sharing:)

Tammy thank you for your kind words!! I can see where some would think show breeders are cold but that's why I am glad you asked the question helps explain that we are not cold but are very loving and very caring for all our yorkies whether they be pets or show dogs.
No drama or attacks needed :) This can be discussed in an adult manner we just proved it :) All I try to do is educate :)

As many of you know, Jaxon is a yorkipoo, I have had 2 previous yorkies & went to get another & fell in love the "Jax-a-poo". I was very surprised to hear the horrible comments about mixes, & things said to each other on here. I'm glad Jaxon loves everyone uncondtionally & without prejudice to breed, race or age!! Please don't put the hate on me for falling in love with the best dog, (of any kind) that I have ever owned.....by the way, I am in my 40's and I feel that everyone has something of value that you can learn from. Please let's all play nice! We hope everyone will love us even though Jaxon isn't PUREBRED anything...will neither am I....I believe there is German, English & a little bit of Indian in me! Hugs-Kay

I think everyone has their own views and opinions and they were shared on this thread.When someone is told something they do not agree with things get heated,if you have a view on something and someone tells you that you are wrong you will defend your self and what you belive in and rightfully so.I really do not think anyone is really upset about anything.
Just like our dogs mine tend to have discussions (fueds) now and then,but then they are all playing together later.

Hi, I used to be a regular on YorkieTalk, but stopped coming on here about a year ago for exactly this reason. Everyone on here is SO judgemental. Do you honestly think that breeding only "Purebred" dogs make you a reputable breeder? Believe me there are plenty of people out there breeding purebred Yorkshire Terriers just to make a buck.

I don't know why I came back on here. I remember when this used to be a loving, encouraging community...I guess times have changed.

I have to agree some are very judgemental it is their way or the highway.But many of us are not!
This a open forum not just for those who think it is thier way or the highway.
We can all learn from others opinions and view points not just those posters who think they are right.(And we can learn things from them also.)

aw, we love all dogs here. I love the dogs, but I just don't agree with those purposely breeding them. But mixes are great dogs too and certainly adorable.

this is a loving, encouraging community. Because I love dogs, I cannot support unreputable breeders when so many dogs are dieing in shelters each day. And, yes, I don't believe any reputable breeder breeds mixed breed dogs. However, just because you breed purbreds definitely does not make one a reputable breeder. There are many many unreputable breeders of purebreds as well. No one is being judgemental...just stating opinions. I feel this way about breeding because of all the dogs abandoned, beaten, neglected, and dieing in shelters everyday. Most people need to stop breeding and contributing to the pet population...there are too many dogs and not enough homes.

It's never going to happen..people will continue to breed their mixes, because they have that option to do so, and there are a lot of people that continue to want them..I actually know quite a few people that don't want a purebred yorkie or a purebred maltese, they want the morkie..they have their rights to have what kind of breed they want..And, I am very happy to say, out of the 16 or so pups my sister had(the youngest being 5 now), they are all very healthy, all in their original homes, and none have LP, LS or anything else wrong with them..:)
