I just wanted to comment that I think it's interesting that the two people in this thread that have defended breeding mixes the most have bred mixed breed dogs on purpose. Of course, I don't blame you for defending it...if I was doing something, I'd probably defend it too. Of course those puppies are adorable. I have to say I think most maltese/yorkie mixes are the cutest mixes because they are made from my two favorite breeds - the Yorkie and the Maltese. I've seen a lot of cute mixes. In fact, one of the cutest mixes I have ever seen was a pekingese/poodle mix named Martini. She looked more like a pekingese with the prettiest blonde hair. Cute cute cute baby! Loved her to death. Another comment I have to make is that I can see a lot of people have a much more relaxed view of what a reputable breeder is than I do. |

I haven't read through all the posts but what I'm getting is it's ok to breed mixes. Grant you they are cute and I love all puppies but with all the breeding that is going on and all the dogs that end up in shelters is causing legislation to make it hard even for us reputable breeders to continue!!! Not all people that breed mixes are puppymills but what I would consider backyard breeders because they are breeding one purebred to another and think it's ok...accidents do happen! But seriously with legislation that is popping up all over the country to stop breeding all together or make it cost a fortune to obtain a license for show breeders is dispictable! I'm sorry but I can't and will not condone mixing a breed when it's only done to make that "designer" dog! Wake up it's going to get where we can't have decent and healthy puppies even from the reputable breeder!!!! Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

I think if the OP wants a Morkie, then so be it.... Tammy |

Yes you can! I'm reputable! I know a lot of others that are reputable also! I know you are and did not direct that personally to you but it is already happening. Good reputable breeders have problems that come along unhealthy pups etc many do and just not tell anyone .I do not think anyone has the perfect yorkie, but many can have very good stock and very healthy ones. |

When you mix a breed your not getting perfect or even close so why do it? All I'm saying is a mixed breed shouldn't happen even tho it does I don't believe it should continue and those that support it just give those breeders reason to keep doing it! So, with that said I'm not going to argue with anyone because everyone by now knows how I feel and my stance on the subject! :) Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
Okay..I'm being really nice here now! I'm going to say one thing, and that is to each his own..If people want to mix 2 purebreds, then so be it..this is American, people can do as they please...If people have a hard time accepting the so called designer dogs, then they can feel that way, and nothing is going to change that..Myself, I don't breed, BUT, if I did, and I wanted to mix two breeds, then I wouldn't really care what anyone thought..I would have the dogs tested and do what I wanted..op asked a question, most of us know how a lot of you feel....a lot of us DONT' feel the same(we're all individuals)..If 2 people breed 2 purebred dogs, at least they know what is in the breed..a lot of these dogs are heinz 57's(you have no clue as to how many breeds are in them..the thing is...now, a lot of dogs are just as cute as yorkies, if someone has $500 to spend(good luck on finding a beautiful yorkie for that that is by a "reputable breeder", they will take that $500 and buy a so called designer dog....just remember, to each his own....;) |

You're right. People are free to do anything they want. People are free to buy from pet stores, people are free to wear fur, people are free to breed 2 pound females, we've seen here at YT that people are even free to breed two puppies. You're right, to each his own, it is America. |

Well said!! I feel like some people here just like to play devils advocate to cause controversy and for something to do!! |
Personally I do not believe in breeding two different breeds together to get this so called "designer" breed. I believe if you are going to be a breeder than you should do it for bettering the breed and for the love of the breed. |
oh and to add one more thing...to each his own...but remember ethics play a big part in everything...too bad some don't have strong enough ethics where it be in showing, breeding or even everyday life such as the workplace, marriage, raising kids.... Glad I know I can live with myself and have a clear conscience in my breeding practices...not saying most on this thread doesn't have it either but if the shoe fits.... |

Oh well, I am done with this thread. Good luck to the OP in whatever decision you make....Morkie or not. :) |
I know, I raised 3 kids(all turned out very well), now, I have 2 g-kids, and a hubby of 31 years..and if I bred mixed bred dogs, I would still have a clear conscience, but, now, on the other hand, if I bred purebred dogs, and maybe charge $2000 and up, I probably would feel pretty bad about myself.. Totaly agree and I thought great breeders did not do it for profit they breed for the love of the breed .I think alot of them worry about designers because it takes money away from their pocket book and then they cannot get those outragous prices that some of them charge, or just a profit whatever they charge. To the OP please post a pic of your new baby whatever you decide to get. We all love babies no matter what they are.Even adults if that is what you decide to get. |
I sleep pretty good at night. I've bred Yorkie, Maltese and yes Morkies for over 6 years and always, always, always had a waiting list for morkies, even if they weren't going to be available until into the next year. Not that my pure bred Maltese and Yorkies weren't beautiful pups, just that so many people desire the morkie, they still get a toy dog but at a more reasonable price. I've retired two of my maltese now so there won't be many more morkie litters but I've always been proud of all my pups and always will be.:D |

I sleep pretty good too as I stated but charging that much is something I don't have to worry about :) so again I am happy with my beliefs and ethics :) |

Sorry, when I looked at it this way I had to laugh. Not stated in a mean spirted way . Just looking at that post from a different view. I know it's silly, but the thought made me laugh. By the way, I own two purebred dogs with papers, but I like Morkies, too. |

But....my belief is...if they took it out of context then maybe ethics should be reevaluated? I'm not talking about you :) I think we've spoken in PM's and I like you and we have come to the agreement to agree to disagree :) I am passionate and I will not apologize for that :) I treat my dogs as I would my human child they are all gifts from God so with that everyone knows how I feel and I will leave it alone :) Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

1 Attachment(s) I have a Morkie named Sarge. He looks exactly like a yorkie but that was purely luck...They are pretty unpredictable in appearance. I attached a picture of him, he's full grown now at 4 lbs. |
