Boycott I refuse to frequent any establishment that posts a "No Dogs" sign in the window. These are not dogs they are fur babies! I see way too many of these signs lately and I don't like it. |
You know, I love my babies as much as anyone else...I wouldn't have 6 dogs if I didn't..But, I read a very good site today, I should have posted it..The lady said I love my dogs as much as anyone else, but, that's exactly what they are, they're a dog..They have these signs up for a reason..I know a lot of you get upset, because to a lot of people they are their babies, believe me, mine are like my kids too, with my other kids all being grown and gone, but, I do realize they are dogs.. |
I agree with you hha...as much as I love my dear Kaylah, I have to face the fact that she is a dog. I also have to put myself in the shoes of the owners of these establishments who may face discrimination cases when it comes to allowing pets in their establishments. If one were to allow yorkies in their place of business, imagine the complaints and requests they would receive for other larger breeds. If the exception can't be made for all, it can't be made for one...and I must admit I wouldn't feel to comfortable eating or shopping among large dogs/animals. |
It depends...there are health laws so restaurants and grocery stores have no choice but to not allow dogs in. But if it's just a store..like a department store, mall, shoe store, etc...then my dog should be allowed in. I take Lacy most places with me and haven't had a problem |
I think allowing dogs could present a slew of problems because, just stay with me here for a second, another dog attacked a small dog etc and a person had to intervene. Well you know someone would end up suing and probably sue the store owner because they allow animals in the store to begin with. I think our dogs are so small that it does not seem difficult at all but larger breeds would really be a problem. What if there were pitbulls with a gang of teenagers? That would be very intimidating to the other customers along with the workers. I don't think they should be allowed unless people have them in a pocketbook carrier. |
LOL I could see me hauling 6 dogs on my trips...I would take mine to like TSC, but, I can't take one and not the others, so, they stay home and keep eachother company..I may decide to take 2 of the little ones sometime..;) |
I love my furbabies..... and to me they are my babies..... My skin kidos are pretty much grown.... however..... my little nephew is highly allergic to dogs.... when he was less than a year old he had 2 severe allergic reactions to his grandmothers dog.... he did not even touch the dog just being in the same room .... he is 7 yrs old now and is much better but they still cannot even come to visit in my house..... even if a dog has been in the pool and he jumps in he can hardly breathe and breaks out in whelps.... You have to consider there are some people that just can't handle being around animals even when we put them in our purses and try to sneak them in. They have to be very careful and not stay in petfriendly hotels just in case an animal has been in the room.... |
I have to agree hha and kaylah, as much as I love to take my furbabies wherever I go, I check first to be sure it's a pet friendly place. My grandson is allergic to dog, cats, and peanuts, (not yorkies). After seeing his allergic reaction to the above, I wouldn't want to take the chance of making someone that ill because of my thoughtless act. I think that's one of the reasons behind those signs. |
I went to a Nobbies.( NO FOOD it is a party store) at Halloween. we had Pixie and a Lady came up (Just a Customer) She said "Excuse me?" And I said "yes" She said "did you know dogs are not allowed in here..." And I said "Oh really ? I did not see a Sign any Place?" She then proceeded to Chew me out telling me that I was Wrong to Bring "THAT DOG" in to the store. Everyone there and there were a Lot of people because of the holiday was just staring at us.. I told the Lady " If you have a Problem with my Yorkie being in this store take it to the manager." she preceded to do just that... The manager . told the lady." Maybe you should leave you disturbed our customers more than that sweet pup did." The lady then stormed out of the store.... And everyone else was clapping LOL. It was really comical. Oh and No there was not sign that said.... "NO DOGS ALOWED" |

I love my babies, and take them everywhere out here. But, I wont take them to places with food. I also wont take them in places that dont allow dogs. It is more of a legal thing than an anti-dog thing. The owners of the stores are just covering their rear ends, and preventing any dog bites/allergic reactions/dogs ruining merchandise. |
I dont take mine in stores anymore so it doesnt affect me. Jewels gets car sick so I dont take her. Chachi is to big to carry around. I dont see anything wrong with taking small dogs in places that dont sell food though and if I could would |
I love my dog too but I have to say that I can kinda see the other side. This is why.... I'm allergic to cats. Always wanted to be a vet when I grew up and then I developed an allergy to cats, then rabbits and guinea pigs. A lot of the animals bother me. Thank goodness, not dogs, at least not most dogs - if I were in a kennel, that might be a different story. It's awful to have allergies. If I went to barnes and noble or some other store and everyone was carrying thier cat around in a carrier, I wouldn't be able to go out into public stores like that anymore. We have to remember that other people might be allergic to dogs and be sensitive to that, that's JMHO. |
I've liked the comparison that if small dogs are allowed then all dogs would have to be. I really really don't like big dogs and I'd rather have no dogs allowed in stores than all dogs. Yorkies are wonderful because they don't shed but most dogs do. Dog hair everywhere...yuck! |

I agree with the stores that don't allow dogs. It would be discrimination to allow little ones and not bigger ones. If I owned a nice store I would not want a big hairy dog in there. I really don't think it's fair to not allow them on the beach or at some parks though. Although, you would have to deal with the bigger ones and dog bites issues. |
I take my boys pretty much everywhere I can. I understand that some places prefer not to have dogs and I respect it. As a business owner, it is their say so. Sometimes if I don't see a sign, I'll go ahead and take them in (always in their carrier or my purse) unless it is somewhere food is. Most people love to see the boys including employees of where we are. There is a sushi place that I order lunch togo from several times a week. It's the one exception that I bring Marcus in with me. Because if I don't, the manager is asking where he is and why I didn't bring him in to see him. It's too funny, when I call in my order some of the servers know me and ask if Marcus will be with me. But overall, I understand and agree with some stores not allowing dogs in. |
I take my Yorkies almost everywhere. My doctor has pictures of them in my medical file. My dentist takes his dog in to his office, so I figured mine could go in too. If I don't take them into the bank, or Joann's Fabrics, the employees want to know where they are. My Yorkies have friends everywhere. My grandson is very allergic to my son's pitbull and Norwegian Elkhound, but my Yorkies don't affect his allergies at all. I think the management of a store has the right to decide if they allow dogs or not and if I was told not to take them in, I wouldn't, but I might not go back there real soon. I don't try to take them into stores that sell food. |
The only place I can see where they may have a point is in a grocery store. Although I keep mine in a stroller so they can't get in any trouble. |

I take them into the bank on a leash. Everywhere else, I either take the stroller or put them in the shopping cart. |
This is a great thread! I have only had Cooper for a month and have been trying to decide where it is "appropriate" for him to go. I have taken him to the local mall, where EVERYONE brings their dogs. I've also brought him into the pet stores. I considered bringing him into Target (there was no sign posted, which surprised me), but they sell food and to me that's a no-no. Today I think he might take a trip to Bed Bath and Beyond with me. |

Oh yeah! They don't allow dogs in our mall. Maybe it's because of the food court in the middle. |

And just because you allow small dogs does not mean you have to allow big dogs. If someone chooses to get a big dog, they know they aren't going to be able to take it as many places. Everyone knows that. I think it's perfectly acceptable to for a business to allow dogs that are being CARRIED only. I would never just walk my dog in on a leash..she is always carried. So if you can carry your dog, they should be allowed. They aren't going to damage anything if they are in your arms. |
I think so long as it isn't a place that has to put the signs up b/c of health laws (e.i. anywhere food is served), and the owner who wants to take their dog somewhere has a CLEAN and WELL BEHAVED dog then there should be no problem what-so-ever. I say clean and well behaved boldly b/c I work in a dog store and believe me there have been many nasty and/or unruly dogs who I have many times wanted to tell the owner to take their dog home and clean it up and get it some training, THEN come back! lol |
Actually, we have a lot of friends that only prefer big dogs, and they are their babies, and a lot of them do take them places with them..those big dogs are just as much of their family as our little ones(and big ones) are ours..A lot of people are not dog lovers like all of us are..I have big and small dogs, and if someone is going to let my yorkies and shih tzu in, they're going to have to let my german shepherd and golden retriever in too...;) |
