Actually, I agree that you are being a little harsh and I have to point out in another thread about banning smoking you were all for it. After all, smokers could say the same thing, "It's not my problem how smoking affects someone else." I think it makes you sound like when it's convenient for you, you are all for limiting other peoples rights but when it comes to something you like to do, you don't want to be limited. And I really think you are very kind person so I hope it just came out wrong. :)

Our outing went very well! I actually did take Cooper into Target because there were no signs stating I couldn't and I knew I wouldn't be going in the food aisles. He sat in his bag in the cart and actually fell asleep for awhile. I also took him to Ross and he did a great job there, too. He did bark at himself in the mirror of the dressing room, but quieted down after I shushed him.

I dont take my furkids to many places, how ever I would respect any place of business that does not allow aniamls, I know there are aot of people with allergies and i repect that, I wouldnt want my dog to affect anyones health.

If you look at the thread linked to the first page you can see that there is a big difference between smoking and allergies. Smoking causes LUNG CANCER - one of the highest causes of death in the US. Most people do not die because of allergies to a dog...I've never heard of anyone going into anaphylactic shock because of a dog allergy. Most people with allergies may get cold-like symptoms...they may become very uncomfortable...but they usually don't die from them. Smoking is very different...it causes an enormous amount of deaths each year. No way you can compare the two.

How many people do you know that have died from a dog allergy? Perfumes have the potential to spread throughout the air quickly and settle into fabrics and onto food....probably much quicker and more effectivly than dog hair.

Well, first off, it's long term exposure to smoke that causes lung cancer. Thank goodness because we would all be dead right now since it was not that long ago that you could smoke wherever you want in public. I'm personally happy not to have to deal with that however I also think that people need to be considerate with their pets. And that's why stores dont always allow these pets because it would become a real problem if everyone was allowed to bring them everywhere. It's obvious that you have never suffered from allergies as you don't seem to think it's any big deal but these symptoms are not pleasant & in some cases can become so severe that people actually have attacks so severe that their breathing is affected, this is called asthma and yes, people do die from that. Sorry to say..... All I'm saying is that this world is a little bigger than us and I feel we do need to be considerate of others. That's just my humble opionion and you are certainly free to disagree....

and ps. yes, I do know someone who died from an asthma attack brought on by allergies.

you're right long term exposure(my dad smoked around us for years(and my mom too, mom is going to be 82 in a couple mos)...she's fine, and I'm quitting smoking tonight..

I've had two grandparents die from lung cancer and one that was recently diagnosed (we think we caught it early and they got it all) so I know how serious lung cancer and smoking can be. All three smoked. One smoked for a few years but quite and hadn't smoked in 15 years when she was diagnosed with lung cancer and died only a few months after being diagnosed. I know of people that have died from lung cancer that never smoked a day in their life - got it from second-hand exposure...each cigarette has so many chemicals and carcinogens in it. With the number of people dieing from lung cancer each year, I think it's understandable why smoking is not allowed in most establishments

I lost my dad to lung cancer too, he smoked for 65 years before he died..Steves dad smoked for 53 years before he quit, not a sign of him ever smoking, better lungs than most 20 year olds..everyone is going to die from something..although cigarettes will cause cancer in some people, it doesn't everyone..I always say, when it's your time to go, it's your time to go...;) but, I am planning on quitting..but, I'm very considerate, I don't sneak cigarettes in where I'm not supposed to smoke, and if smoking isn't allowed, I'm okay with it..I don't complain about it, just don't do it..

While we may have the RIGHT to do something, it doesn't mean that it is the kind or considerate thing to do. Yes, everyone has the right to wear layers and layers of perfume....but it is neither kind or considerate. Yes, people have the right to smoke in certain places....but it is neither kind or considerate. Yes, we have the right to bring our furbabies into certain stores....but it is not always kind or considerate.

Someone with severe allergies to perfume can choose to limit their visits to public places. They can usually smell it several isles away, and choose to avoid that area of the store. When someone goes into a pet store, they expect to encounter pets. Thus, someone with severe pet allergies can choose to avoid pet stores. But in a regular store, they are naturally not expecting to find pets. Particularly in a store with a no-pet policy. And when small pets are concealed, they can't take action to avoid the area.

Understandably, the seriousness of these allergies is not fully appreciated by someone who doesn't have them. But this shouldn't prevent one from being kind and considerate.

I enjoy taking Lucy places I know she is accepted or welcomed. If I were to be in a place that she wasn't welcome and someone called me out on it, it would ruin the trip and experience for me anyway so I prefer to take her places that allow pets. Thankfully, all my favorite shopping haunts welcome her with open arms. We are quite well known in doggy corture section of Juicy ;)

If you're spraying perfume in a store, than probably! But not if you have sprayed at home and it is already settled on you! Someone made a good point that perfume on someone is something that you can expect to find in any store, but not a dog. And you know what... Sorry if you take offense to this.. But your baby is a dog...not a human!

Sorry to anyone who takes offense to that! Bella and Harley are my babies and they wear clothes and get treated pretty close to a human, but........

They eat poop if I don't watch them... They throw up and eat it afterwards... They scratch their private parts, even when company is around :eek:

So I think they will be fine if they have to stay home for an hour every so often so that you can go to the store without them. If not, hire a babysitter. They aren't going to die if they don't get to go grocery shopping with you...but someone else can. (I didn't say will, I said can.) It doesn't mean I think it will happen EVERY time, but it is possible.

I'm a smoker, and I wouldn't blow it in your face or smoke in an area that non-smokers are standing in. I smoke where I am allowed and take my dog where I am allowed. Its called respect.

A comment was made about larger dogs earlier, so I wanted to say I took my one boxer (who passed away) to a few different places, the mall one time, Old Navy, Petsmart, etc. Usually you don't expect to see a boxer at the mall or Old Navy, but I was allowed to and I did. When I did have to leave her at home I felt just as bad as I do when I have to leave Rocky or Bella at home.

Also, people HAVE died from allergic reactions. Some are more severe than others. (I'm not saying this too you luvnmyyorkie, just something else I wanted to add and not make a newpost)
