To those with tiny babies (under 4lbs.).. I'm curious... Do you let the tiny babies sleep in the bed with you? How do you prevent them from falling off the bed? |
Gino is 4 lbs....he does fine. He usually sleeps RIGHT next to me, my face, neck, etc. He loves to be swaddled in a blanket. He is pretty perceptive. He never falls off the bed. I have a Queen and he doesnt sleep on the edge, just the middle and Bianca is on the other side of him, unless he is sleeping right next to her :) Dont worry Kyle, they are pretty good about not letting themselves fall off. :) |
Mine don't sleep with me yet, i'm worried they will pee on my bed but some day they will. I wouldn't worry about them falling, they know to usethe stairs. |
Although mine aren't under 4 anymore, they both once were. Neither one of them ever thought about jumping off the bed when they were that size, heck Slade will still bark his fool head off so I will sit him on the ground even though the bed is only about 1.5 ft off the ground now  Usually with both of them, I would instintively wake up if I felt them move too much. |
AprilLove has slept with me since I got her, (I started her out on the bed in a little crate next to me). She was under 2 lbs when she started sleeping with me and now she sleeps on my head. I will add, though, that I am a very light sleeper and know immediately if one of the furbabies moves. I usually end up with all three of the little ones velcroed to me when I wake up, one on my head, one next to my chin and the other one on my side :D :D and I usually sleep like a stick person, LOL. I would consider what kind of sleeper you are (heavy sleeper, light, move around alot, etc) then go from there. I think using a little kennel/crate right next to you on the bed is a good idea, they are right next to you and you can touch them and comfort them and know they are safe from falling, |
Bailey is 4 #s and she's been sleeping next to me since she was a puppy, she's 3 yrs. now. We sleep in a queen size bed also, Maggie 10 #s on one side of me and Bailey between us. My husband, before he died, built a wooden 4 step staircase so they can get in and out of the bed. The little ones love to snuggle. AS far as rolling over on them, I guess my maternal instinct takes care of that. No problems here!! Good Luck! |
Lily sleeps next to me, I always worry about her falling off but she never has, I am a very lite sleeper, I fell it when she moves and I can tell if she wants down . It was not my plan to ever have her in bed with us but I am a sucker for her whimper. |
I never let Lulu sleep on the bed when we slept. During the day if I was napping I would put her to nap with me but when it was time to really sleep I put her in the crate (when she was potty training) and then in her bed at my bedside (when she was fully trained). I was always afraid that either hubby or I would roll over her and at times my son climbs into the bed so with two heavy rollers I was afraid. Zoey gets the same treatment. Don't want to chance her getting hurt. She doesn't seem to mind. |
I also forgot to say, that when Laney was a pup, we live in a smallish room in an apt, so the bed was pushed in the corner and I slept on the outer edge, so the only side she had to fall off of was the bottom of the bed. |
Yes - both of my babies sleep with us :) They have never ever jumped off the bed...but sometimes Stedman (who is 4 lbs) jumps off in the middle of the night to chase the cat if he hears him getting into something  Gosh, now that I said that I will probably jinx myself and one of them will fall off. I sure hope not lol! And by the way Kyle...that avatar will be ready SOON I promise! :D :p |
Me two (4 and 5 lbs.) sleep in the bed.. I was just curious what people did with the tinies. I hate to say it- but when they were puppies they each fell off the bed once. They were OK though. |

Yes I let Riley sleep with me. Hes about 3lbs. I have a futon so its really low to the ground. He doesnt move around alot. When he sleeps with me, hes either on my pillow or curled up next to my stomach. Its funny because before I got him, I was a heavy sleeper, but now, he can barely move and I wake up. I haven't even rolled over on him. Thank god. Lol. He sleeps under the covers so I think thats why hes never rolled off. |
Cookie weighs 3lbs 5 oz now and he's been sleeping with me for over 3 yrs already. He has to be under the covers and some part of his body has to be touching me,either his head, his back or his lil butt lol. Angel is 4.5 lbs and he sleeps at the edge of the bed by our feet and he MUST sleep on top of the covers. I've never had a poblem with them. When I wake up in the morning I just tap him and tell him " Cookie ,I gotta get up!" he jumps up and falls asleep on top of my pillow lol. This is our daily routine Genie,Cookie,Lola & Angel |
I have a 3.5 pounder and a 4 pounder that sleep with me.. well I have two more that do also.. but those are the smaller.. the both have been kinda trained to sleep in the middle of us, up closer to our upper part of our bodies.. they do fine.. I did have a 5 pounder that fell off the bed in the night, and punctured her left lung and the vet said she bled out in ten minutes.. that was a nightmare.. We do not know if she was playing with the other dog at some point, or if she was just too close to the end of the bed and turned over and fell off.. we do not know if somehow we did this to her.. we have never forgotten that.. but we do have a lower bed now.. I would sleep on the floor on a mattress if I had to.. But when she fell of the bed, she got to my closet and died on my shoes.. so what a shock when we woke up.. You can teach them to stay up close to you.. you can also harness her and tie have a lead on her, tie it to the centre of the bed, to ensure she cannot fall off.. our first baby boy after the accident we did this too for a long long time.. so he then learned to stay up in the middle of us.. pooh's mum |
McKenzie is 4 lbs and she sometimes sleeps with us. She typically curls up right between myself and my DH and doesn't move. I put a rolled up fleece blanket between her and my DH as he tends to roll over in the middle of the night. She doesn't wander around the bed though, so she wouldnt take a tumble :p. I've heard that some people put pillows or blankets around their bed just in case :) |
i put pebbles in her little dog bed next to my pillow and for most of the night she rolls around in there, but in the mornings she gets out and wanders around the bed for a good spot. she fell off once, but that was my fault really--the way i had the covers, it looked like there was more firm walking space, so she stepped there and just fell. i was like OH NO!!! but she just rolled back up and wasnt hurt. i hope it doesnt happen again lol. |
I have 2.5lb and she sleeps in her bed on the floor. But sometime when I sleep on the couch, she is curled up next to me. I'm not worried about her falling or squishing:D , we used to sleep on bed as well but never had trouble. I woke up every time when she needs to go patty, I don't know how I woke up but I did. Now that she sleeps on the floor, she barks once when she goes to patty so I can clean her little butt. I think I got maternal love!!! :D |
Kasey has to sleep in his crate at night. He weighs 3 pounds and can't even jump on the low couch on his own, so you can imagine the dangers that falling or jumping off a bed would present.:( |
1 Attachment(s) Mine have doggie steps to the bed, but you know Ryder, Sophie, and Faith are all afraid of jumping off the bed. I have a bunch of body and regular pillows lined up on the left side and I sleep on the right side. Those three sleep in a little spot right beside my head between the pillows and me, and that keeps them from rolling. I've never had a problem with them at all. You can sort of see it in this pic...the steps are beside Maddie (the one in pink up front) |
My little Dovie has slept with me since she was a tiny wee one of 2 1/2 months and less than 2 lbs. She has been the greatest source of comfort and companionship since I shattered my leg in October. Little Dovie sleeps alll night long on my down pillow with her neck across mine. Chattie and Scarlett also sleep with me, but they are a bit bigger. |

All my babies sleep with me and my bf. London and Sophie are 3 lbs and under and they know not to try to jump off the bed. So far we have done fine. London is scared of the edge, she has been on my loft bed before, and she wouldn't even go near the edge cause she just knows. Now she would just sit at the edge and look down like a cat but she knows it would not be good if she fell. |

Both our babies sleep w/ us. Wylie can jump up/down as needed. Marcel has his stairs. :) |
Teddi has always slept with me. She usually sleeps up by my head but sometimes she goes under the covers but whenever I turn over I always feel around for her to make sure I know where she is. I also have a pile of pillows on the side of the bed that are made into stairs so she goes down in the middle of the nite to use her pee pad and then comes back up. Sometimes I don't even know she has gotten off the bed and back up but I see the poop or pee on the pad in the morning so I know that she got down! |
Lulu and Zoey would be allowed up on the bed while I am awake or napping on it alone during the day. When the night time comes it down into your crate to sleep. My bed is very high up and I don't trust to have her up on it while I am sleeping. Plus hubby sleeps very wild and my 3 year old tends to wander into bed with us and my men are something else on the bed. As it is there is not enough room for me there. So to be on the safe side it down into her crate. Some people allow them to sleep on the bed but I am a bit wary for her safety. |
